As usual they try to get me to download Safari and oddly a MobileMe control Panel.

Mac users sniff at bloatware and adware on PC, but Apple is certainly not shy about it.

MobileMe and Safari isn't bloatware and/or adware. I use MobileMe on several of my Windows computers. Safari is the best browser in terms of performance and speed. That can be argued but you can't argue that Safari is either bloatware and/or adware. Neither is MobileMe.

I consider bloatware and/or adware to be trial software, ad programs that the vendor receives money for putting onto your machine, that is preinstalled without any option to remove it. You can uncheck MobileMe and Safari. If you do install them, both of them give you full functionality.

How do you stream from itunes to ATV2 then. i can't do it !

You just set up homesharing on iTunes and the Apple TV, you could do this from day one...

But AirPlay video doesn't seem to be working yet. It seems that Apple TV needs a software update for it to work.

What are you whinging about?

You've asked Apple's Software Updater what is available for your computer and it's answered your question.

If you're not interested in a particular piece of software all you have to do is ignore it via the "Tools" menu.

So I guess all the speculation that AirPrint wasn't in 10.6.5 because it was in iTunes 10.1 turned out to be wrong?

Come on Apple, iTunes a 64 bit rewrite already. The application could really use the performance boost.

Amen to that, this app has long been a pig, and that's one thing that would help a bit.

And anyone asking for a 64-bit version of iTunes in a point release is setting themselves up for disappointment.

Likely? Probably not. Possible? It happened with Logic 9.1.

He just asked a question.

What question was that?

What does everyone have against Ping? The option to hide it is most welcome but why does everyone seem to loathe it so much?

Because until now there was no option to hide it. Even now, the ability to hide all the little PING buttons is probably still a terminal command instead of a pref.

I'm not sure that the new Airplay icon is as self-explanatory as Apple may think it is:

That'd Be Awesome IF.....

...I could JUST get my ATV Gen. 2 to recognize my iTunes library. Home sharing is ON on both. Haven't been able to watch my own media in a couple of weeks (very frustrating). Everything else on ATV works just fine. My only workaround has been to hook up my 1st Gen. ATV to watch the movies I have in iTunes.

iOS 4.2 on iPad is sweeeeet

I got to see iOS 4.2 on my developer friend's iPad yesterday and man, it is way sweet. It allows multi-tasking, as expected, but it also makes organizing apps on the iPad way easier and it allows one to change settings like brightness much more easily (less steps).

I very much look forward to Apple releasing it, probably next week.

This will really help iPads being the number1 Christmas 2010 gift.

(I know I'm thinking about getting another iPad as a present for family);)

Way to go :apple:

Can anyone who edited the position of the stoplight and added the color back to the icons confirm if upgrading from 10.0 to 10.1 will have to be redone, and if so if the same files work?

I replaced the resource file that came with iTunes10.1 with the modified resource file that added the color icons.

I notice that now when I play a song the little speaker icon signifying that the song is playing is messed up. There is a green blotch underneath it and it pushes the speaker icon up and out of frame a bit.

Also, I noticed that the new iTunes 10.1 had replaced the icons in the bottom right corner of the window signifying if you were playing music through your computer speakers or through airtunes speakers. Using the modified resource file switches the speaker icons back to 10.0 version. So, there is some sort of a conflict happening with the new speaker icons.

But I can't figure out why the little speaker icon showing that a song is playing is messed up.

So this update doesn't allow us to stream from iTunes to our iPhones, or from our iPhones to our computers? Kind of pointless then, isn't it?

Because until now there was no option to hide it. Even now, the ability to hide all the little PING buttons is probably still a terminal command instead of a pref.

Apple wants us to share what we are listening to and be social. What do you have against that? You can disable it now which hides both the Ping icon on the bottom right, Ping buttons next to songs, and the Ping menu listed under Store on the left hand side. Quit whining, it didn't take away any functionality, just added some features that you can now remove from sight.

Apple wouldn't want to make the windows iTunes too good. I mean, why switch to a mac if an Apple app works really well on your PC already?

Actually, they want to make it good, because then people will expect all other Mac software to be just as good, and want to switch so they can get the full experience. Sort of the iTunes and Safari "halo effect", or at least that was the intention. I dunno how well it's worked, but certainly I think that was part of the intent.

I did not know that! Is there no Ping sidebar now?

EDIT: Oh, they seemed to have combined elements of the two.

If they would only add this to DVD player (Airplay) I could just get rid of the clutter in my home theater by getting rid of the DVD player.

Yes, it shows only Genius recommended songs and albums when no song is selected, but adds Ping stuff such as like/post buttons, recent activity and artist info when a song is selected. Genius stuff is still shown when a song is selected, it's underneath the Pig stuff. Just scroll down.

The speed of loading uncached cover art in the album grid view seems much faster. I would guess there are a few more similar performance fixes - iTunes could certainly do with them..

I also noticed a huge increase in speed - at least 2x.

Additionally: the text in the sidebar seems darker - have to confirm (edit: nope, they're the same); you can remove Ping and Genius from the sidebar (I think someone briefly mentioned this); mods made to remove Ping from selected tracks remains.
