Still no fix for synced tracks starting several seconds from the beginning of the song...?

If you are still on 9 (I'm still on 8), are you able to access the iTunes Store through iTunes? All I get is a full-screen ad urging me to install iTunes 10. Is it not accessible except through iTunes 10?

you two are weird. you're really that against the latest itunes?

MacBook Pro Late 2008 2.53 GHz 4 GB of RAM, Snow Leopard, does it sound like it shouldn't run iTunes with absolutely no lag? It runs Photoshop just fine, I'm pretty sure iTunes should have no trouble then... Or maybe clicking on buttons that display playlists requires more CPU power than working with a file that has 20 layers in PS...?

Edit: Installed the update and guess what: iTunes is now super fast! See, they listened to me! Apple read my post and did it!

Hmm, interesting, I do think they did some major changes in this minor update. In the past, iTunes would stutter to the point of interrupting video playback of an SD quality iTunes store show if I plugged in an iPhone or iPad to sync. Now, just a brief moment of beachball, but no interruption of the video.

Thats been my main complaint for a while, since a Mac Pro 8 core machine with 14GB of memory and a 10k primary drive shouldn't have problems with syncing an iPhone and playing back video.

As for a Cocoa and 64 bit rewrite, would be nice so iTunes catches up with the rest of the software bundled with a Mac. Sure the current one can do multiprocessing, but upgrading to Grand Central Dispatch would be the proper thing to do. iTunes shouldn't count CPUs and decide how many to use when (and poorly based on previous multitasking failures), OS X should.

Sounds like you need to update your computer specs or get a new machine.

Sounds like you have no manners.

iTunes shouldn't ever require an updated machine. Ludicrous to think that you would need to buy a new computer to sync an iPhone, when various versions of iTunes have been around since the beginning of the century.

This will only compose a list of my music videos, not pull them from my Music library, which is what I want. I could create a playlist that "is only" music, but then I'd have to use a playlist as my main library which I don't want to do.

I think they fixed your issue, I don't see music videos under Music anymore. They are in Movies now.

It seems stunningly faster to me too. Strange. Seems like it's re-reading/re-caching the album artwork, so far as I can tell.

Actually, they aren't so bad. I still use iTunes 6 most of the time for its speed, though I keep 9.2.1 around for compatibility reasons (iTunes Store, 5th gen iPod nano). I can switch between the two versions fairly easily with an AppleScript I wrote. Because I still regularly use OS 9, I also use iTunes 2.0.4 for about a third of my playback. :p

I read that this version of iTunes 10 is significantly faster than previous builds. Does anybody know how it compares to 9?

I haven't been able to access the iTunes store for months and months now. All I got was an error message telling me the store was down. That was replaced last week with the screen telling me to upgrade.

I've also noticed that since then I can no longer retrieve album art from the iTunes store for my own music files. I haven't tried buying something that requires authentication (like a video file) on another computer and then transferring it to this one to see if I can play it still but that would be an interesting test.

how about some 64-bit cocoa goodness. That way you can run tasks in the background instead of bringing up a progress bar when I'm importing files preventing me from playing my music or doing anything else until this is done. Geez.
Huh? Is that really a 64-bit issue, or a Mac issue? I'm on iTunes 8 on Windows and I usually have stuff playing when I'm importing new files. If I double-click on a track while importing is running it still keeps importing while it begins the song. I've also had stuff import in the background while I'm working on a web browser or something else.

Did you quit Photoshop and restart your machine in the meanwhile?

No, I just updated iTunes and that's all I did. Clicking on playlists on the side will instantly switch to that playlist without the previous 1-2 second delay.

About time too. Apple releases iOS updates for bug fixes tons faster than iTunes. And iTunes still loads incredibly slow.

Haha i was wondering why this update did'nt show up in my software update, then i realised i've got itunes 10.2.2b2 (4) as i'm on lion..... I cant wait for the final release of lion! i realy like it! anyone else?

I agree.

@Those who write "Rewrite it in Cocoa and compile it as a 64-Bit app for Mac OS X!":
Apple is certainly not on a suicide mission. Who is so dumb to ignore the biggest music- and video-market (Microsoft Windows)?

Of the hundreds of ppl that I know, a handful (5-6) use iTunes on Windows. Maybe the percentage is greater in the US.

iTunes sort of sucks on the Mac, but on Window, it's an immense resource hog. I guess it turns more people off of Apple than anything else!

Dolby Digital and ac3 passthru works again, thanx!
Was broken in 10.2.1 on many (or all?) systems.

- Addresses an issue where iTunes may become unresponsive when syncing an iPad.

Did they address the issue where iTunes prevents you from using your Windows PC at all while syncing any iDevice? Which lasts about half an hour just to sync contacts on an iPod.
And the issue where it takes about 10 minutes to start the application ?
And the issue where it says "can't update iPhone - an unexpected error occurred" - so i'm stuck on 4.3.0...

iTunes used to be the center of the Digital Hub.
Back in 2001, it sounded like the deal.
But now it's crippled and heavy, a real bag of hurt - sorry about paraphrasing.

iDevices really need something beyond iTunes and they need it now. They need to work as standalone devices. People don't need that piece of outdated software slowing down their computers. Let's sync everything over the cloud.

iDevices need seamless, wireless (proximity-based or something like home sharing) integration into PC operating systems (including OSX & Win) and permanent, lightweight sync. Not a heavy sync process which takes all a machine's resources.

I've got a 09macbook pro 4Gig, 2.53 blah blah, after installing the update itunes now opens in 2 bounces instead of 7? has this happened to anybody else? I'm well chuffed

As well as the videos mixed in with the songs.. I think it's even crazier that the voice memos from an iPhone are..

The last thing you want your default shuffle behaviour to be doing is randomly running through your own inane ramblings and notes. Odd. Voice memos shouldn't even sync with the iTunes library IMO they should just go somewhere else.

Agreed. Also have problems with iTunes sucking my VoIP voice mails from my work computer into it. Annoying. No matter how many times I tell iTunes to leave wav files to Windows, it takes control of them every time I update.

Every time I start to think about relying on it I get "victimized" by another bug, and have to reboot to my Snow Leopard partition. Particularly annoying is the one that won't allow me to click the action button (Save, Go, Next, etc.) after filling in web forms. Reported to Apple, acknowledged as a bug, not yet fixed (entirely) in either Preview 2, or it's incremental (?) update. I estimate they'll need one or two more updates before I feel comfortable moving my data to that partition. On the bright side, switching between the two partitions on my MBA is a less than 30 second operation. Gotta love that SSD....

For me it's definitely snappier, and I did get the issue of total lockups specifically when syncing my iPad so hopefully that really is fixed. I always used to close down every spreadsheet, all my browser windows, basically every other running app before I dared plug in my iPad so that, if iTunes totally locked up my entire PC (which it sometimes did), I wouldn't lose any data when I had to press the reset button to get it back.

Unfortunately though, the Apple Windows programmers still don't seem to have learned how to do multithreading in this latest release. When downloading app updates from the iTunes store iTunes itself still becomes unresponsive to mouse clicks but at least it does complete the downloads without locking up the PC completely. For me it is just iTunes that becomes unresponsive while it is doing the downloads, I am able to do other stuff while it's working.

I wish they would fix the bug that sends my movies automatically to my Apple TV2. Every time I open a video in iTunes it defaults to my ATV and its getting really annoying.

This seems obvious, but did you check the Airplay setting in iTunes to make sure your ATV isn't the chosen playback device? Only asking because I have two ATV2s and two Macs, and haven't seen the issue you are describing.

Zune Player on Windows blows this bloated piece of **** iTunes application out of the water. Unfortunately I can't manage my iPhone or iPad with it.
