I was wondering something else too...
Let's say I have a friend. Now this friend has a lot of music - in fact he's been building his library since he was 13. Now, these days this friend buys all of his music, but when he was younger he might have downloaded some non-iTunes DRM content (for which he is very sorry and is slowly replacing with legit tunes). Now firstly, will this friends non-iTunes content scrobble "ping"? Secondly, will this be a potential tool for the rights-management hounds to sniff out music terrorists?

Hit the green button in iTunes 9 and see where the traffic lights are placed for those complaining. ;)

hehe True that.

Also, lots of people showing general symptoms of having a stick up their ass here today! :D (Buh, fugly icon. Buh! Apple doing something new that lets their massive user base share their music life with the people they choose - outrageous!)

I like everything about the new iTunes 10 I think. Not that it's a perfect app, but I like it, and I think Ping could be really good. I dislike the all-embracing nature of Facebook, so using Ping (while actually in the app I use for music) to share info about music sounds appealing.

Now, if they could only get the DL-links up..

Can't believe all the whining about the window buttons... they look just like they do everywhere else, only rearranged, and it gives you room for one or two extra lines in your list view, which is good.

But none of it really matters if the application still beachballs every time you try to do anything.

learning from history class, the next OSX style was based on the current iTunes.

ugh.. maybe not.
aqua -> brushed metal -> marble? -> traffic lights ;p

Thank you! I just read the last 5 pages looking to see if that was mentioned yet. The vertical buttons have been around forever, just not in the default view.

it's for advertising, people tend to buy what friends tell them

and with this it's not like Gaga is going to be posting anything. she has publicity people to post to twitter and other sites. and if you noticed there is a buy something link next to almost everything.

it's to make you spend money

Yes, I know that Apple makes money from it, but it's still sad to see yet another social network emerge. I hope they'll all die one day...

I see Ping as becoming the start for Apple moving into Facebook's space. Eventually you will see Apple do mobile social networking right.

I agree. A year or so after iTunes was introduced, WSJ's Walt Mossberg wrote that iTunes was shouldn't be underestimated, that it was so much more than a music management system--that it was actually a complex and powerful bit of software that would in the years to come dazzle people with new opportunities (think App store) for Apple.

He was right, of course. I see Ping in the same way. It is apple's foothold on the social networking universe. People will start out organizing in friend circles--there WILL be one for Tea Partiers, for example, organized at first around patriotic/jingoistic music, depending on your pov, and other circles for people of other lifestyle/political persuasions. Eventually the content and capabilities of Ping will broaden and Apple will be bragging about its market share as a social network compared to facebook and the rest.

Looks like the new AirPlay feature in iTunes on Mac, iPhone and iPad is designed to allow wireless streaming to speaker docks and stereo receivers by all kinds of manufacturers.

That is a big new feature.

Love it!

ah right my bad, i didn't realise that. this was more helpful than the people that just said no, cos i knew i downloaded a 64bit version, didn't realise was just an installer, so thank you to this man.

The app itself is a 32-bit app, but the drivers for iPhones and iPods were written for 64-bit compatibility.

Let me guess, Ping uses your iTunes store account? So, for those of us (like my wife and I) who share the same iTunes store account (so that we can share purchased apps on all our iOS devices), are out of luck with having separate Ping accounts (unless we want the constant hassle of logging out and logging in depeneding on what we want to do in iTunes).

they didn't steal the concept. they purchased lala which was a competitor to last.fm and had many of the same features.

No, this has nothing to do with Lala and Lala was not really a competitor to Last.fm.

Thankfully there isn't a lot of new features in iTunes as it is for 10.5 + only
which I can't run.
Why is it that Apple supports XP but not 10.4?

Do you and your wife share everything?

Account Sharing is banned.

When Apple discovers you're sharing you're account, they're going to banhammer you just like Xbox Live or anyone else would.

God forbid two people who live together might share the same account!
Soon when a child is born they'll get not just a birth certificate but a Facebook account and an iTunes giftcard...

After initial shock at the traffic light transposition, I'm getting the reasoning. Reducing the window's height by ditching the title bar is very nice, especially on the smaller laptops. Maybe this is in preparation for an 11.6" Air :D.
