Sad to see Apple jump on the social networking bandwagon. They say it lets you "discover new music", but in fact, all social networking just results in friends becoming ever more similar. Friend circles listen to the same music, they go to the same concerts, they "follow" the same people, they think the same thoughts... I wonder if they also ***** the same man / woman...

Other than that, the iTunes 10 icon is very ugly. Looks like it's been taken out of the Windows XP Control Panel.

I can't wait for Katy Perry and Lady Gaga to friend me out of nowhere! Besides, groups of idiots have always found ways to be like their idiot friends, even without social networking. Social networking just takes the hassle out of actually asking your friends what you should think.

The problem is not opening a new account, but maintaining a new account!!! Some people in this world have a life and don't want to sit 24/7 behind the computer because they have to maintain yet another social account!

Next to all my social media sites like facebook, linkedin, flickr, last.fm, grooveshark, youtube, twitter etc... I also maintain several blogs and two websites and am a active member on several forums and websites! Still I have a job and a life next to my computer!

I will not use Ping, because I don't see any benefits over last.fm and grooveshark...

How can you have a life with so many social media sites active :p

The page that appears after downloading iTunes 9 appears to be for iTunes 10... it seems everything is updated except the actual download link...

actually my circle of friends have a wide and varying taste in music, so it could be interesting for me.

Ui

And yet another UI in Osx, there's no consistency at all anymore, and compared to Windows 7, that system looks 5-10 years older !

i'm lovin the idea of ping... wish they would update the actual download since they've updated the marketing page, lol.

I see Ping as becoming the start for Apple moving into Facebook's space. Eventually you will see Apple do mobile social networking right.

5 missing letters so you didn't mean Ping did you? :)

Airplay question.

Steve seemed to quickly move away from the topic.

Can I, play my iTunes library wirelessly from my PC to my iPhone???

I can't see why it wouldn't do that but why he wouldn't scream that from the rooftops is beyond me.

I could care less if I can watch a movie from my iPad to my AppleTV.

Seconded, being able to stream media from my computer's vast HDD to the tiny iDevice would be so much more useful than the other way round.

But what I hate the most, is that they stole the complete concept of Last.fm and Steve has the nerves to tell us that it is something completely new!!!

they didn't steal the concept. they purchased lala which was a competitor to last.fm and had many of the same features.

Can't believe all the whining about the window buttons... they look just like they do everywhere else, only rearranged, and it gives you room for one or two extra lines in your list view, which is good.

But none of it really matters if the application still beachballs every time you try to do anything.

it's for advertising, people tend to buy what friends tell them

and with this it's not like Gaga is going to be posting anything. she has publicity people to post to twitter and other sites. and if you noticed there is a buy something link next to almost everything.

it's to make you spend money

I really just want an Apple-built way to stream my iTunes library to my iPhone over 3G and WiFi. AirPlay was rather vague today, and seemed to still support the opposite direction: iPhone/iPad TO Apple TV. I can already do that with iTunes using the free Remote app. I really just want my big library on the go. I'm a little bummed that there wasn't even a mention of how/when this might be available in the future at today's event.

What would be nice... If Apple went the extra step and integrated all the media they sold! So they have a ping / last.fm not only for music but for music, tv and movies.

But I think we can expect that will be the next step of Apple :)

PS: still hate the idea that apple went into the social networking...

LOL Apple can't decide what the hell it wants to do! Now the screenshots for iTunes 9 are back up!

Hit the green button in iTunes 9 and see where the traffic lights are placed for those complaining. ;)
