Apple Releases iTunes 10 With 'Ping' Social Networking for Music

It does seem strange to change it but I am not to worried about it other than aesthetic appearance since I don't think I have actually clicked on of the buttons in forever. Keyboard shortcuts yay! LoL. But as i said I only see how this can work on Applications where the Words on the titlebar never change such as iTunes, iPhoto. But seeing as how Safari uses the titlebar to display a webpage name I don't see how the plan implementing it. I'm sure they have something though.

Fully agree: I love my last.fm. That ping thing isn't a "new" thing. It's just a more polished last.fm kind of social network. The only difference is the big dbase subscribers they have and start with. I guess I'll stick with my last.fm network for now, as it can do way more than what that ping can do.

Who says it's more polished? Looked pretty basic and boring to me with nowhere near the level of detail last.fm offers.

You are probably thinking about the Palm Pre and the broken syncs with consecutives iTunes updates and subsequent "fixes" by Palm. As far as I know, there was never any problem in syncing a jailbroken iPhone.
 
Why Ping music-only?!

Why not have Ping be for anything you can buy on iTunes?
Ping Music...
Ping TV
Ping Movies
Ping Apps
Ping AudioBooks....
Ping everything.

Will there be a Ping website too?

And can I ping my Facebook? Or Facebook my Ping?

Thoughts??

I am ok with the social side of it... Will see how it plays out but my friends and I like about the same kind of music so if it allows us to share recent purchases or recommendations etc I will like it.

Also if you have not noticed everything that Apple produces is completely new and revolutionary and will change everything! Its marketing....

And I am glad it is not added into facebook... You know you only want to share your info with so many people... Ran into a situation in class where the professor is trying to setup a discussion thing on fb... and im like you know this is where i have my family friends etc... IDK just saying I like to keep things a little separate...

How pointless if it was just another Facebook app, even if implemented inside iTunes. It would be good if they could be linked, so posts would go to Facebook too, but no way would I want it to rely on Zuckerberg's empire. If you are peeved at Apple borrowing from last.fm, remember how Facebook has ripped everybody off, from the people he was supposed to develop what became Facebook for in the first place, to Twitter. Steve didn't lay any claim on it being a new concept, just that it was Twitter or Facebook for Music. As for the name, I like it; it's certainly no worse than Microsoft's Bing :p
 
Airplay question.

Steve seemed to quickly move away from the topic.

Can I, play my iTunes library wirelessly from my PC to my iPhone???

I can't see why it wouldn't do that but why he wouldn't scream that from the rooftops is beyond me.

I could care less if I can watch a movie from my iPad to my AppleTV.

Developer website is down. New SDK and firmware for 4.2 coming? Perhaps a GM for 4.1 as well.
 
As stated earlier, the iPhone Dev Center is down for updates. I really hope I get a 4.2 beta for the iPad.

Ping will be a hit though for sure.
However, I've never really been one to get too into social networking, does anybody else find publishing that much info to the world a bit like being naked in public? In other words, I'd rather no one know about my secret Avril Lavigne/Lady GaGa obsession....:p

Haha totally agree... my music collection is the same and I don't want anyone thinking I'm a huge of chick music (which.. ok sometimes I am) :D
 
Features, yay, but that is a powerfully ugly rejiggering of the interface. I mean really... yuck! It looks like they've changed things for the sake of change, not for functional - and certainly not for aesthetic - reasons. And were those arguably wasted 22 vertical pixels really so much of a problem that they had to break convention that hard? I mean, it was bad enough when the mini-player did that, but for the full-size player to do the same? Awful, just awful.

ETA: And holy hell, that icon! Looks like something out of the Mac OS 8 days.

The problem is not opening a new account, but maintaining a new account!!! Some people in this world have a life and don't want to sit 24/7 behind the computer because they have to maintain yet another social account!

Next to all my social media sites like facebook, linkedin, flickr, last.fm, grooveshark, youtube, twitter etc... I also maintain several blogs and two websites and am a active member on several forums and websites! Still I have a job and a life next to my computer!

I will not use Ping, because I don't see any benefits over last.fm and grooveshark...
