People still use iTunes?

People still post about people using iTunes on Apple centric websites?

----------

I care a lot more about the alleged improvement in syncing performance than I do about the widget!

(i really don't know any OS X users that regularly use their notification center)

I use Notification Center regularly for the widgets mostly. I love having the calculator there for example. And I have Notification Center set to a hot key on F5 so it's super accessible. I'm happy to see iTunes get a NC widget now to bring it more in line with the iOS control center.

I also made a replacement icon some time ago that fits Yosemite pretty well, in my opinion. Unfortunately my 'skills' weren't nearly advanced enough to prevent the icon from looking rather crummy at large sizes. I still like this icon conceptually and would actually love it if someone would have another go at it... http://cl.ly/0N031l3i0S1e... anyone?

And they didn't even bother changing that horrible salmon-colored icon. That is sorely needed. I simply edited the icon in Pixelmator and made it blue instead.

So, does the new syncing make USB 2.0 and the phone's internal storage any faster? =P

I'd love to change the icon, too. I once knew, but have forgotten how to paste in a new image. Would you mind giving a brief explanation, and maybe posting your edited blue icon? I'd be very grateful! :)

I still use iTunes.. but usually mostly for just syncing my iPhone. If they'd move all that stuff directly to the iCloud so I'd never need to open iTunes I'd buy iTunes Match to put all my non-iTMS music in the cloud (More than half of my music is not on the store, and a lot of my real music is not purchased from iTunes) and never even launch it. I don't know if I'll use the widget much at all, but I'll enable it IF it's smart like Reminders and disappears when iTunes is not running or playing anything. If it appears at all times then I'll just keep using my custom animated Bowtie bowlet that slides an iTunes controller onto the screen when I open iTunes. Then again I only use Bowtie for display so the widget wouldn't even be super useful.

I actually use Today view a lot on both iOS and OS X. I have it set to a gesture instead having to slide my two fingers. I use four fingers and click and it opens and closes so it's quick and easy. But I like to keep my OS X sidebar clean and without scrolling. So just Today/Tomorrow, World Clock (Wish there was a digital option), Reminders and Weather for me right now. If it scrolls (My display is 1200 high) I don't want it. Right now I have plenty of room for at least two more widgets.

Hopefully it fixes the Podcasts sync problems that have occurred for the last 3-4 years.

Hopefully it also fixes the problem where the synchronisation would be stuck.

This is all I'm going to ask right now.

fixed syncing!

Yes, looks like they finally fixed the syncing problems that have plagued iTunes!

Also, the revamped the info panel for songs. I like the improvements.

What do you use to manage your songs and playlists and to play your music.

I use iTunes 90% of the day as I play music from all my various smart playlists.

Alternatives for when you play your own music rather than stream music?

Ineed. Syncing is broken since... ever... or at least since they brought wifi-syncing. I never even use that, but even with the cable I always have to reboot both mac and iPhone to even have a chance to sync. As soon as you have some apps and some pics to sync, it gets harsh.

Bugs

I hope they fix the several bugs in the previous releases of iTunes 12.0.x which have interfered with iTunes recognizing iOS devices even though other programs like ImageCapture and iPhoto recognize the same devices just fine. There are also syncing problems that came with Yosemite iTunes. It would be lovely to have fixes.

I use it all the time. Every OS X user I know also uses it.

iTunes 12 is a hot mess.

What does that mean? Works fine for me.
It's very cool. And I love the icon.

----------

is it just me or is d/l updates from Apple gotten a lot slower?

212MB.... going on 40 mins now

Just got it at 8MB/sec. Took only a few seconds. You have a problem with your provider.

----------

The usual laundry list of unnecessary clutter.

I love iTunes. Works perfectly for me. Works beautifully with my iPhone. Sorry it is so disappointing for you.

----------

The problem is that iTunes sucks at being a music player just as the Music app on the iPhone sucks at playing music. We're kind of stuck.

iTunes works perfectly as a music player on my Mac and my iPhone. Have you thought about switching to Windows? You might be happier with that.

Try using the calculation function in spotlight... Even more useful!

The new Video player controls are very nice. I was wondering when they'd get to that.

# They also changed the spacing for the Up Next list's header. And the vibrancy of the sidebar was fixed so that pictures appearing in it do not themselves become translucent. In previous versions, the album art appearing in the sidebar for each artist looked really muddy

Something like this?
wow, that's rather nice – thanks a lot! :)
Looks lovely in CoverFlow as well (for the odd album without cover art)!

Staying on iTunes 11.4 (and iOS8) for the next two years or more for long term Mac backwards compatibility and without having to use Windows XP for 12.
