# They also changed the spacing for the Up Next list's header. And the vibrancy of the sidebar was fixed so that pictures appearing in it do not themselves become translucent. In previous versions, the album art appearing in the sidebar for each artist looked really muddy

Oh ya I just noticed the Up Next change. And I totally agree, album art in the sidebar looked terrible, especially albums that were mostly white. The Beatles White Album was not white at all! It looks much better now.

is it just me or is d/l updates from Apple gotten a lot slower?

Downloaded in ~30 seconds for me, at about the same time that you made your post. I think Apple mirrors content around the world so it's possibly a US server having trouble (if you're in the US).

I've always liked iTunes 12. And I usually hate iTunes UI changes.

I did turn the sidebar back on of course--easily done!

Some things are now at the top that weren't--but I find them less confusing there than the old way. And I like that you can customize what icons are shown at top on the left.

iTunes 12 has never given me any trouble, which is more than I can say for itunes, say, 6 through 11!

The widget is barebones. MiniPlay on the Mac App Store does a better job at this - it shows the album artwork AND it supports Spotify and Rdio as well.

And the Repeat icon is still invisible! Are you kidding me? How is this not fixed?

Weird, cause I installed the update and I didn't see the widget in the notification center. All I see is weather, stocks and calendar while playing iTunes Radio.

iTunes used to be the most used application on my Macs. Now I only see it when I plug in my iPhone. It's like a stalker ex-girlfriend begging for attention. I close it as quickly as possible so my wife Spotify doesn't find out.

Lost All Faith

As someone who owns every Apple product (iPhone 6 128, iPad Air 128, Maxed out 2012 Macbook Pro, and 2 Apple TVs), I'm really getting to the end of my rope with this company. I spent the last three months complaining about not being able to Sync my iPhone 6 on any consistent basis only be told there's no reported issues so it's just me. Now lookie here there's "fix."

iTunes has been god awful since iTunes 12, iOS8 "broke" my iPad Air (I now have to reboot it at least 3 times a day just to get it to connect to the internet), Yosemite has turned my MBP into a hot mess, and it just seems like this company is incapable of releasing quality software anymore. Problem is, I hate Android and I don't like Windows 8 nor MS's push towards trying to force people into their subscription garbage with Office..... Computing these days is truly awful. I want off the grid!

How does iOS's music player "suck" at playing music? It does that job wonderfully. It's all the rest that it doesn't do well that's the problem...
Yes, literally speaking, the music "plays" just fine.

I was using the words "playing music" in a general sense of using the app, as in when I want to play something specific, but it's a total PITA to do so. As an example, if I want to listen to one of my eight Radio Head albums, but I don't know which one... I might have to scroll through 80+ Radio Head songs to get to "Pablo Honey". I can't just see the eight albums and select the one I want... like I used to... when it didn't suck.

Click on "My Music" at the top, scroll to and click "Radiohead" on the sidebar (if you type "R" on your keyboard it'll jump to the first R artist), and you can scroll through each album from there. I agree that the UX in iTunes 12 is horrid, but you can do what you're asking. Just probably slower than before.

Thanks for the tip, but I was was referring to the iPhone "Music" app, which wasn't evident in the quote, but was when he quoted my OP.

And yes, the iTunes 12 UX is horrid, but you're right, not for that specific reason.

Finally!

iTunes 12.0 had introduced a horrid bug which caused massive distortions when playing AAC-encoded radio streams. It became unusable for most of my favourite radio stations.

They have finally got around to fixing that bug!

People still use iTunes?

Buy some movies/TV shows from Apple and add in a bunch of rips from your DVD/BD library. Yep, I use iTunes ALL THE TIME. Something on my iMac is going bad and I lost the external drive with all my movies, and I can't tell you how much of a pain that is. I'm lucky that I have a new MacBook Air that I have managed to set up to run my library from, but I'm still having to add files to the library because I had set everything up from that iMac.

Sure would be nice if Apple TV could do something to not require a running iTunes library to access all those videos.

Only took a few minutes to download.

Blazing fast DL here.

On another note read me says the new widget for Yosemite but I still got the download for Mavericks. No widget in Mavericks so why the update? Weird... Oh I guess it's the improved syncing.

Will check it on out my Yosemite machines tomorrow.

...On a related note...

Do iTunes updates not auto update?

I checked to see if mine had done so, it hadn't. Opened up the app store, and had to manually refresh to see the update. Left my MBA plugged in for a couple hours, left it to sleep eventually, it never downloaded or installed.

I feel exactly the same way. I've been playing with some newer linux distros (elementary isnt bad) in an attempt to find a decent alternative, but even then it's so hard to break the entanglement in the apple ecosystem right now (for me). It's like a no win situation no matter which direction one goes. I think whats ticked me off most is the 2011 15" MBP defects with GPU overheating and eventually dying that Apple has yet to give compensation for, let alone acknowledge.
