No Apple radio station plays on 10.7.5
Others like 'BBC World Service' play just fine.
So we got a streaming radio station that has specific OS requirements. Thanks for that, Apple.
Almost nothing is supported on Snow Leopard anymore...Spotify streaming works fine with 10.6 Snow Leopard, iTunes 12.2 requires 10.7 Lion?
Back to Spotify.
I didn't even think to try that. Very cool.ok this is NUTS!
Ask siri:
"play the song xxx by xxx" or
"play the latest album by xxx"
....make sure you choose something that is NOT in your library...
it will simply play ;-)
effin awesome.
best,
SvK
I'd love to see the figures for Spotify and Tidal users who've unsubscribed from their packages in favour of Apple Music. I get the feeling it'll be pretty high.

Edit: Spelling
Well, according to everything and anything I can find on Apple's site, my Mac is supported for this. Running 10.8.5. The specs for Beats 1 say nothing about this, nor does the iTunes 12.2 specs.
iTunes 12.2 download page:
Mac System Requirements
Hardware:
- Mac computer with an Intel processor
- To play 720p HD video, an iTunes LP, or iTunes Extras, a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster processor is required
- To play 1080p HD video, a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster processor and 2GB of RAM is required
- Screen resolution of 1024x768 or greater; 1280x800 or greater is required to play an iTunes LP or iTunes Extras
- Broadband Internet connection to use Apple Music, the iTunes Store, and iTunes Extras
- Apple combo drive or SuperDrive to create audio, MP3, or back-up CDs; some non-Apple CD-RW recorders may also work. Songs from the Apple Music catalog cannot be burned to a CD.
I thought I would be cancelling Spotify but after using Apple Music I don't think that will be the case. Spotify is a much better system, especially across devices. I like how when I close Spotify on my Mac and then re-open it on my PC it retains what I was listening to and doesn't always give me the splash page of Taylor Swift and Pharrell crap.
The Spotify sound quality is much better as well, iTunes sounds digital and glassy to me.
I think it's a matter of different philosophies in that Spotify is more about playing music you want and Apple is more about suggestion. Tidal is a Hi Res service and I don't think anyone who is paying the premium for that sound quality is going to want to switch to iTunes.
Apple today released iTunes 12.2 for OS X Yosemite users, introducing desktop support for the new Apple Music service. Launched today as part of iOS 8.4, Apple Music lets iTunes users to listen to on-demand music, create playlists, find music suitable for every activity, and more. Apple Music is also accompanied by Apple Music Connect, Apple's new artist-centric social network, and the Beats 1 24/7 live worldwide radio station.

iTunes 12.2 can be downloaded immediately through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store. Apple has also released a new version of iTunes 12.2 for Windows users. Apple Music in iTunes 12.2 brings several new sections to the music portion of the app, including "For You," which displays recommended music that you might like based on preferences you've entered and past music you've listed to, and a "New" section that offers up new and trending music.
There's also a section for Apple Music Connect, Apple's new artist-centric social network. With Connect, you can read status updates and see photos, videos, and more from your favorite artists. A radio section houses the Beats 1 radio station and other radio stations curated by music experts or based on various songs and artists.![]()

Apple Music Connect in iTunes
iTunes 12.2 is the second major update to iTunes 12, which debuted alongside OS X Yosemite. iTunes 12.1, the previous major update, brought an iTunes widget for the Notification Center and performance improvements.
All iTunes users can access Apple Music for free for a three month trial period. After that time, an individual subscription can be purchased for $9.99 and a family subscription with support for up to 6 users can be purchased for $14.99. Beats 1 radio and existing iTunes Radio stations will continue to be available at no cost.

it wasn't only me, http://www.theverge.com/2015/7/1/8876285/apple-beats-1-radio-replay-repeat-not-live made an article about it today.Yep. I have heard Zane mentioned users should tap in Beats 1 to see if there is localised content. His one is for New York.
Apple always aims at providing localised contents, I think, rather than providing all the same contents around the world, although the price is all the same around the globe.
At least, at this launching period, listening to same contents twice is normal.
Things went from bad to impossible with my upgrade. The Mac App Store kept freezing in various states. Since so many people were successful in doing their installs and upgrades I figured something needed to be cleaned up or reset. I finally started poking around in Apple support looking for things to try to fix it. One piece of "advice" ended up screwing my boot volume completely. Multiple tries at reinstalling Yosemite and I'm stuck at the halfway point on the boot screen, no matter how long I give it.
I'm out shopping for an external drive so I can get a bootable volume set up and move my files over. Disk Utility still shows everything is there, fortunately.
I messed with Music on the iPad for a while. Beats1 was ok, but I'm a bit older than the target demo, I think.
I know it's supposed to be the same channel for the entire world, but I could swear that clicking on the songs I liked seemed to reduce the ones I didn't like.
For instance, during the "St. Vincent Mixtape" or whatever her show is called, there was a bunch of pop stuff playing, then a New Order tune kicked in. I liked it so I "hearted it". A couple of songs later I heard Depeche Mode. Clicked that one. I started hearing more and more that I liked and less current stuff. Finally it was all my kind of music with the occasional current tune - but those tunes sounded like modern songs made in the old style.
Did anyone else listening to B1 hear what I heard? Or did they find some way to tailor songs on their flagship station?
You kind of lose the right to complain about support for new features when you use an OS released six years ago.Spotify streaming works fine with 10.6 Snow Leopard, iTunes 12.2 requires 10.7 Lion?
Back to Spotify.
