Apple Releases iTunes 12.2 With Apple Music and Beats 1 Support

I have no idea what happened, but I don't keep my music locally and I just keep "show itunes in the cloud" so I can stream the music I purchased. Well after I did the Apple Music trial, I went to look and half my stuff was "hidden". So I had to go to manage, and unhide hundreds of songs, but some simply will not unhide. I need to contact Apple. Every time they do something with iTunes, my music gets all messed up.

And now, it refuses to connect. The little cloud keeps saying "unable to access your iTunes purchases."

What a bunch of BS. Right now, the only way I can listen to music is with the Apple Music trial. I cannot access any of my purchased music, as the cloud won't connect.

Things went from bad to impossible with my upgrade. The Mac App Store kept freezing in various states. Since so many people were successful in doing their installs and upgrades I figured something needed to be cleaned up or reset. I finally started poking around in Apple support looking for things to try to fix it. One piece of "advice" ended up screwing my boot volume completely. Multiple tries at reinstalling Yosemite and I'm stuck at the halfway point on the boot screen, no matter how long I give it.
I'm out shopping for an external drive so I can get a bootable volume set up and move my files over. Disk Utility still shows everything is there, fortunately.

I messed with Music on the iPad for a while. Beats1 was ok, but I'm a bit older than the target demo, I think.
I know it's supposed to be the same channel for the entire world, but I could swear that clicking on the songs I liked seemed to reduce the ones I didn't like.
For instance, during the "St. Vincent Mixtape" or whatever her show is called, there was a bunch of pop stuff playing, then a New Order tune kicked in. I liked it so I "hearted it". A couple of songs later I heard Depeche Mode. Clicked that one. I started hearing more and more that I liked and less current stuff. Finally it was all my kind of music with the occasional current tune - but those tunes sounded like modern songs made in the old style.
Did anyone else listening to B1 hear what I heard? Or did they find some way to tailor songs on their flagship station?
Well, I listen to beats 1 with no action. I mean, I didn't find a way to add heart to my favourite song. I listen to plain radio content.

Your best bet is to keep a local copy of everything you have.

is wifi sync broken now? i can't sync my iPhone 6 or iPod over wifi anymore and have to plug it in. turning everything off and on again doesn't work.

I don't know how they found it. However, if you go to the radio tab and click on the b1 banner, it is listed on the page that comes up.
You mean in iTunes? If I click on the B1 banner at the top, it just restarts playback?! I should probably mention that I have not signed up for Apple Music yet (but I am a Match subscriber). Perhaps that makes a difference?

I am using an iPad and I am subscribed to Apple Music. Haven't tried this feature on the Mac yet.

After upgrading to iOS 8.4 on my iPhone and iPad, and then installing iTunes 12.2.0 on my iMac and start a subscription to iTunes Match, my iTunes library was messed up seriously. Audio files were renamed and placed under wrong artist names, wrong album covers on many albums, just a mess on at least 25% of my 12.000 tracks. Just one example below: The artist is Beady Belle, not David Bowie. And the album cover is wrong, and the album is not "Around Robert Wyatt", and the track is not what is displayed. - On the second example, the album cover and content of "Mysterious China" by Homeless Balloon is displayed as Don McLean's album "American Pie". The serious thing is that the audio files have been moved and renamed in Finder (iTunes/Media/Music) as well.

I would never have expected Apple to release features (iTunes Match?) without testing first. And why are they silent about this serious problem? Disappointed!

What are you talking about? Of course they test their products. It appears that the problem that you have is not happening everywhere (otherwise there would already be articles about it and a few class action lawsuits) so it might be a local thing that triggered this behaviour that is so unique that it could not be anticipated ot tested.

These things also happen on other platforms. Software development for large markets wth many variables is difficult. Mistakes and errors will happen, regardless of the amount of testing anyone does.

Resume playback finally implemented?

What I meant is that you are listening a very long playlist of thousands of songs, quit iTunes, reboot the Mac or shut down the Mac. The next time that you open iTunes it starts from song number one again, but you want it to resume from the last song played (say, song number 1456 or whatever).

For me that is the most essential feature missing in iTunes, and it was available in SoundJam MP back in 2001, from where iTunes was developed.

Does anyone know if there is a way to save playlists from Apple Music but not save the music to my library. There are quite a few good playlists I've found but I don't want all the music saved onto my iTunes library?

i seem to have found a massive bug in iTunes 12.2 on my mac running os x yosemite 10.10.4

when going to the photos tab when syncing with my iphone or ipad the text is all messed up the option to sync photos sometimes is not even there. the sync button and folder options would be missing. closing out and reopening seems to fix the issue temporarily. time for iTunes 12.2.1

Quick question: I just signed up to Music and updated iTunes. I don't have "For You" tab in iTunes. It was there briefly then disappeared. Anyone any idea how to get it back?

edit: And in the account drop down menu the item "Choose artists for you" is greyed out if that makes any difference

Have you reported the bug to Apple? Or are you expecting them to be psychic? As this isn't an official Apple forum for reporting issues....

Sign out then back in again, should rectify it.

Tried that but it didn't work. Did a quick Google (I'm still shocked how fast that became a verb) and it seems it's not uncommon. When I first launched iTunes it asked me to join Apple Music or asked if I'm already a member. Clicking "already a member?" didn't do anything so I Clicked "take me to My Music". It seems the upshot of that is that it turns off Music. There's a toggle in Preferences under General to "Show Apple Music". I toggled that and it all came back. Still not intuitive though

I had the same issue. Click on iTunes store, scroll right to the bottom of the page and click 90 Day Trial. And the links re-appear

Don't fully trust those cloud services.

Oh, I do, as well as keep them on Dropbox. But since I'm always on WiFi I don't like to clutter my main SSD. I've almost given up completely on Apple's "version" of the cloud, with me only use iTunes to show my purchases so I can just stream. However, I think I will be fully done with Apple's Cloud and simply keep my music on my SSD. It's a 35GB hit, but I still have plenty.

I turn off iCloud Drive so fast on all devices now. Anything that has "cloud" in the Apple service title, I can't disable it fast enough.

I am about to remove documents stored on iCloud to OneDrive for Business for a better workflow and integration with office applications. The only thing I miss is a reliable Mac sync client.

I prefer purchasing multiple hard disks to store contents. Ssd is just pricy.

On the whole I think that's a little harsh. I'll admit I'm not a huge daily user of cloud services but I do use my share of Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive and iCloud Drive. I've not run into any huge issues using iCloud Drive, and in fact my biggest issue with it generally is that app developers, including Apple's own in-house ones - despite crying out for a way to access iOS file systems for years - don't seem to have embraced the File Picker and it still doesn't seem to be included in a lot of the apps I use. Personally I blame the Watch. All app development seems to have shifted suddenly to "includes appleWatch app" leaving other new features from iOS 8 undeveloped (File Picker, Notification widgets etc) and maybe Apple's iCloud Drive for example would be a bit more successful if it were being developed for a bit more? Lately if it's not for the Watch no one seems to be interested.

How this relates to iTunes and Music as far as I'm concerned is that it seems to have worked OK so far. I did back up all my media to an external drive first then used a smart playlist to list all the Uploaded and Matched songs then deleted them all from my local device. I have currently chosen not to redownload them: my choice at this time and I'll make a decision on what to do before my Match sub expires. I now have a library consisting of all my own library of songs that are in the cloud and the ones from Apple Music and to be honest, so far it all seems to have worked fine with no major glitches. Apart from the twice I've tried to listen to Beats1 and I've had to seek medical attention cos my ears started bleeding. Not my thing at all so far :)

Does anyone know if there is any pattern to basic looking artist pages like this:

arcade_fire_1.png

And looking like this:

arcade_fire_2.png

I have noticed a few, including the one above, but it has gone from the top version, to the bottom, and now back to the top.

It doesn't always work depending on the colour, but generally the second style looks a lot nicer - I guess like a lot of the artist pages in the iTunes store.

Would it be something they are playing around with that can update in real time rather than with an update?

Oh, I can't listen to that. But I did do the 90 day Apple Music trial and then quickly set the auto-renew option to OFF. Apple Music was the only way I could listen to my music yesterday, as I couldn't get any of my "in the cloud" purchases to show up in my library. So far, I've used Apple Music to listen (more than just the 30/1:30 clips) to stuff from some bands I have material from, but haven't delved too deeply, like The Ramones. So it's really good as a research tool for me now. I could see myself maybe paying for a month here and there, only using it to go and find stuff I've not had a chance to hear fully. But I don't ever see myself paying month to month to month.
