So what happens to the custom ringtones that I generate? Does this mean that I can no longer download them? As for apps, I use my Mac so that I only need to download an app one time for all of my devices.

what the hell apple now if I restore my iPad and iPhone with new software I have you search every app and download on both thats a pain normally just sync my iTunes to iPhone nd iPad what apple why why why now I can't restore and start device as new as will take ages searching for every app and in my purchases it has 1000.s of apps

No. You don’t have to search anything. How is it possible for one person to be so wrong, all the time.

The answer is a few posts up.

Well, it appears my ability to edit playlist order has disappeared. The ones in alphabetical order are now reverse alphabetical and there doesn't appear to be an easy fix. Thoughts?

In a day filled with surprises, Apple has shocked us once again with the release of iTunes 12.7, which entirely revamps the iTunes App. The new iTunes is designed to focus solely on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks, which means there is no built-in App Store.

While I understand the change, it is slightly annoying as I have a few apps backed up in iTunes that are no longer available on the App Store. (Although I suppose I should check and see if they even work with iOS 11, it may be completely moot for newer devices.) I guess I need to find an iPad 4th gen or iPhone 5 to copy them on to to ensure I never accidentally upgrade to a too-new OS for them if they won't run on iOS 11; and to keep a copy of iTunes 12.6 around with the saved copies...

Edit: Just checked, yes, five of my games won't work on iOS 11. :-( Guess the iPad isn't getting updated until I have an older iPad to install them on.

Double Edit: Thankfully, you can still add apps manually by dragging the .ipa file from the Finder (or Explorer if you're on Windows) in to the iDevice's listing in the sidebar. (As described in a new Apple Support Article.)

The shot of the dialog box in the story suggests otherwise:

"...use the new App Store or Sound Settings on iOS to redownload them without your Mac."

Most iOS users never connect their devices to a computer, but for those who do, 12.7 is a major retrograde.

Apple used to be about being different, or standing up against the Man. Now it is The Man, and strict regimens must be followed. No exceptions.

I think you hit on the key point: Apple's larger customer base are the IOS-only users. Those of us who prefer to use the Mac as a master work horse and storage hub providing secondary, mobile devices with content are no longer significant to Apple's business model.

For me, I will stick with plain Sierra, IOS 10, and iTunes 12.6 for a long time. Afraid of change? In this case, absolutely!

The loss of the app organization feature of iTunes sucks. My devices become a mess from adding new apps and managing them on the devices directly is cumbersome. It was a great feature being able to organize things from iTunes. Oh well.

Just went back to re-read the summary of this new iTunes. "The new iTunes focuses on music, movies, TV shows, and audiobooks".

Not a word anywhere, in the article, in these comments about syncing photos. Syncing photos currently sucks when doing selected albums and your newest album =s the latest import images. It takes two syncs and the extra creation of a stupid new album for a stupid newer import to see on the iPad what you originally wanted to see. Will iTunes 12.7 fix this bug by dropping the photo sync altogether????

Make sure before you upgrade to iOS 11 go to SETTINGS-> GENERAL -> ABOUT-> APPLICATIONS-> click and look very carefully through that list. Those are all the ones that you will not be using (or seeing) once you install iOS 11.

this is only available on 10.3 and up.

I wish I had known this before I went and updated iTunes. Naturally my Time Machine backup is of no use here since iTunes cannot be removed. I really counted on being able to see all my apps on a large screen rather than trying to do everything on my iPhone. This does most likely mean that I will never buy another app because I will never be able to find what I want on the small iPhone screen. Apple should have made some provision for managing apps on the desktop machine, even if it was in some program separate from iTunes.

Yes, I have sent feedback to Apple already saying pretty much the same thing.

you can do right-click "get info" and change permissions of iTunes.app. Delete the iTunes.app
Then restore your iTunes folder from Time Machine backup
and install iTunes 10.6.2 from dmg (https://secure-appldnld.apple.com/i...-6BB9-11E7-A52A-C5374A4DD6D5/iTunes12.6.2.dmg)

Apple forgets that in spite of their almost complete disregard for Macs many customers still use them. Anything I can do on the big screen rather than a phone screen makes life easier.

Great decision Apple. Who downloads iOS apps on their Mac anyway?

I do. There are four iPads and three iPhones in my family - on average there are around 30ish apps that have updates each week for us. I pick and chose the ones I want updated - for example the MS Office apps are large and I don't need those updated all the time so I only approve those once in a while, whereas many other apps I approve each week. We then plug each of our SEVEN iOS devices into my Mac and they get their updates. There are also some specific circumstances such as two of the iPads being EXTREMELY full so I am careful what is updated on those as otherwise they fail. But this is an extremely simple and efficient system.

Now it's going to be both wasteful and painful :(

Just checked, Photo syncing is the same. They just expect you to use iCloud Photos now, I think.

Not sure if these questions have been asked already....

Syncing devices that are iOS 10 or older. Keeping apps that are older that no longer are on the App Store. My wife still has her 5th gen iPod touch which is stuck at iOS 9.3.5 and her 4 year old iPhone 5c which is now stuck at iOS 10.3.3. I know I won't be updating her iTunes to 12.7 until I've done a backup and get more details on how older devices work with iTunes 12.7 and apps not made for iOS 11.

I read the article on manually adding items from your computer and once I get a new iPhone, I will have to figure that one out for my custom ringtones and IPA file backups. Has anyone done any app adding using iTunes 12.7 yet?

But Apple kept the 42 GB of apps on my Mac drive...?

I can't sync or get updates but I didn't gain the space by having all the apps removed....?

Oh wait this screws me in more ways... some of my devices have different apps. For example my devices have YouTube but both my daughters do not because of some bad incidents. When we travel I'll individually remove various apps on some devices to free room for movie, other times we'll tune different devices with different apps to fit other larger apps that only one or two devices use (a lot of my daughter's games are MASSIVE in size so I need to balance what they have).

This has all been quick and easy point and click stuff before, this is now going to turn into a nightmare the more I think about it...

Two questions: 1)After I download this new iTunes, will my games progress be uploaded to iCloud when it syncs?
2) If I need to back up my old iPad to a new computer to then transfer everything to a new iPad, what happens to the non-standard stuff that was on the old iPad? Now I can back up inside iTunes and restore to a new iPad. What am I supposed to do in the future? 3)Restoring locally vs. iCloud is so much faster

I understood people with older phones not on the latest iOS could get app versions that worked on that iOS previously? Not sure if that helps...

It doesn't. In my case, I dislike what happened to mincecraft Pe about a year ago so I've never updated, and managed to hop between devices with the old version because I have it in iTunes.

In the playlist selected, on the menu: View > View As > Songs

You can manually sort or use any of the column headers.
