Whatever is new, it caused my iTunes to upgrade it's library for about a minute before I could do anything in iTunes.

Haven't noticed anything new yet.

Interesting.
It appears Apple has learned from the iPhone 2.0 + MobileMe + (was it OS 10.5.4?) multi headed update fiasco last year. Maybe this time they're breaking things up so their servers don't get pounded to death.
Rolling out iTunes a week before WWDC might indicate 3.0 will be ready for a public launch at WWDC - along with the updated iPhone.
I said "might." ;)

Quicktime and its damn restarts. I'll wait to update until I have another reason to restart.

This is because it is a key framework used by so many apps. The same is true for Webkit. It's the safest way to keep everything running smoothly (and prevent apps trying to load old versions which don't exist and throwing weird errors).

It certainly looks that way, which is good news if that's the case.
This week iTunes 8.2.
Next week WWDC + iPhone OS 3.0.
The future... who knows ;)

hmmm I just did the software update and it keeps telling me to download the Safari 4 beta which I already have. What should I do?

Great! Hope it is more stable than 8.1.1.

What's wrong with 8.1.1?

Yes, it was 10.5.4, which was required for MobileMe so it should have been released first.

Good call. ;)

start diggin through the code boys... there's bound to be secrets in these updates ..only days before the wwdc

hello, i am running itunes 8.2b7 atm because it allows me to load custom ipcc files onto my dev iphone. can anyone tell if itunes 8.2 breaks this functionality like 8.2b10?

I can confirm that like b10 you cannot add custom ipcc files. They're not selectable.

So now fellas, go and check all the stings in there. There must be some kind of references to something.

If you mean "Blue-ray" in AboutBox.rtf then yes, I can confirm that.

I can however do no more testing – my player took my disk (a rental) closed and won't open anymore.

Blu Ray

I just noticed in the about dialog for iTunes 8.2, it lists Blu Ray discs in it's legal jargon. Did I miss something in an earlier release or is this new as of 8.2? Do we have some form of Blu Ray support now?

Looks like Software Update doesn't recognise 8.2 beta as being different from the 8.2 release.

This text first appeared in the beta of 8.2 (30-4-2009) but so far nobody ever confirmed it to be functional/work, at least not to my knowledge.

So will there be an iTunes 8.2.1 update next week that includes all the iPhone next-generation icons and plists?

Or are they in this binary, ready to be pilfered?

Or maybe Apple changed how things work for syncing, and the icon is now provided by the device as part of the USB plugging in action. This would also break the Palm Pre's implementation just before the Pre's launch...

It seems like Apple has been putting in more protections against "modified" versions of iPhone software. Can anyone confirm that this works w/ jailbroken & unlocked iPhones?

bump

I've owned my iPhone for about 2 weeks and have had it jailbroken for one.. the last thing I want to do is to eff up this bad boy, Thanks much!

My iPhone 3G continues to work perfectly fine (on T-mobile), but mine is officially unlocked.

hummmm this is in the iPhone License agreement

"Apple would provide you with any iPhone OS software updates it might release up to and including the iPhone 3.x software release. Such updates and releases may not necessarily include all of the new software features that Apple releases for newer iPhone models."

I guess that means there will be a new iPhone for all those people that say no there wont

OH MY GOD.... Apple fixed the 5.1-Soundbug in iTunes/Quicktime.
Finally i can watch my iTunes shows with 5.1-Sound... strike!

Upgrade collisions

I'm sure that Apple remembers what happened last summer with the iPhone 3G came out. Everyone activated their phone and tried to upgrade to the 2.0 software at the same time. That left a lot of folks with temporarily bricked phones when the new software couldn't authorize the phone.

I'm sure that there will be a staged rollout this year, with either the new phones going first (likely) or the 3.0 software being rolled out to existing users first (less likely for PR reasons).

OH MY GOD.... Apple fixed the annoyingly massive delay when switching to 'Applications' in the source menu.
Now I don't get annoyed every single time I click it. Good stuff (although it never should have lasted that long anyway).

By the way, why are we now bolding the first lines of our posts?
