ok, i bet they are rolling 3.0 out next week, so when a new phone comes out their servers won't get pounded to death.

If Apple are releasing a version of iTunes that is compatible with the 3.0 software... doesn't that imply that they must be close to a finalised version of the 3.0 software to be sure that this is going to be compatible?

I wouldn't be surprised if we get a half-cocked version of 3.0 released with a follow up release shortly after to correct the problems.

Guess they aren't interested in actually updating the core of iTunes, are updates for iTunes just gonna be for iPhone / iPod Touch in the future?

I haven't had any problems with 8.1.1 and my 2G Shuffle. What isn't working for you?

This Apple Discussions thread has the details of all the symptoms: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9194084

In summary:
1) dragging files to the iPod that already exist on the device
2) order of podcasts when added to the iPod
3) automatic removal of deleted podcasts
4) ability to play songs from the shuffle in iTunes when the shuffle is connected

My own pet peeve: missing the iPod Shuffle item in the "Add to Playlist" context menu.

Also, sync doesn't work reliably. I need to sync a couple of times to get all the songs loaded and ordered correctly.

Had no problem with the upgrade to both. iTunes then spend maybe 30 seconds "updating my library." Now I just wait to hook up an iPhone with new software I guess.

Tabbed browsing in iTunes store would be a godsend. Wishlists would also be a useful addition but I guess you could use the shopping cart option.
Which would be a great way to slow down the iTunes servers, even more, but I agree – let Apple fix their server park when they setup that new one and let us enjoy the world of tabs (or whatever they will call it).

Note: I installed both updates without pain, at least so far.

p.s. Did I just see a change in AppleUSBEthernet.kext? Checking... but whatever. I also see that my Equalizer has changed, because the upper part is now lighter. The rest is just darker. Just weird.

As much as my realistic side thinks that the last beta we saw was too far from release candidate to get released next week, it would make sense to roll out iPhone 3.0 to us schmucks about a month before the new iPhone ships so that the new customers get a patch with fixes based on our misery.

iTunes 8 came out in mid-September last year. I wouldn't expect a major new release any more than once a year.

I'm also guessing that they will be releasing a Cocoa version of iTunes (64-bit as well?) at some point after Snow Leopard is out since they are moving all of their other apps to Cocoa and (mostly) 64-bit.

Perhaps that iTunes is on Windows as well could slow down this process but I don't really know.

I think I noticed something new in 8.2. I'm pretty sure that with the previous versions, when I plugged in my iPhone iTunes would always switch to the iPhone status screen. No matter what I was doing (browsing the store, looking through my library, whatever), it always went to the iPhone screen.

The few times I synced after upgrading iTunes stayed at the screen I was on and did not jump me to the iPhone screen. I like this a lot.

You're right, this makes me a lot happier. It was annoying to have it switching to my iPhone every time.

iTunes 10 is coming out with Snow Leopard, as is Quicktime 10, I believe.

I'm just wondering how I subscribed to this thread without even responding to it...

I guess that's why I don't have any problems. I never do any of those.

Haven't had any sync problems though.

5.1 Surround Fixed!!!

Just verified this by playing back the last 3 episodes of Battlestar Galactica (HD) and Caprica on iTunes on my 17" Macbook Pro 2.33. Connected over the optical connection to the receiver and voila - full surround now works as it should.

Thanks Apple for listening and for squishing this large bug.

Any word on if any of this is fixed?

EDIT: according to
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9194084

problems 1 and 3 are fixed, is everybody else finding this true? It was a real pain to go back to 8.0.2 last time and really don't want to go through that again.

You know...

my MB took an abnormally long time to restart after completing the download of iTunes 8.2... My PC was normal, Vista had to restart after completing the installation. As others have said, this new version does something to your library upon initial launch as well.

I just installed iTunes 8.2 my boot camp via Parallels (4.0). And it did a "library up" but then it crashed. So I stopped it and reopened the App and it just opened as nothing happen. I didn't know it would see my mac iTunes files though. LOL

Off topic: Just for fun I on iTunes on the Mac side and the PC side (Parallels 4.0) at the same time. and they both played! LOL

On the side, I hope the Quicktime update fixes my minor video glitches that I get on older quicktime files I have (where it randomly pixilates the upper 1/3 of the video). Have yet to figure that one out.

You are not alone. That happens to me too. Strange.

I've noticed improved syncing with my 120GB iPod classic. Used to have issues when waking up my Macbook but they seem to be all good now.

I also noticed that the icn file for 8.2 still says version 7 around the inside of the CD
