Converting Lossless (Wav, Apple Lossless) to MP3/AAC removes certain frequencies and bits to make the file smaller. Converting that MP3/AAC back to lossless can't bring those bits and frequencies back in.

If you have the CD's you can import those CD's again.

Thanks for the help.

On another note, to all those who want to downgrade to iTunes 8 I would suggest otherwise, because creating smartlists has gotten better in this version. You can now choose which rules the smartlist must follow and which ones are optional. In iTunes 8 you can only have it one way.

Also another small thing I noticed, now when you select numerous songs in a playlist, the # at the bottom that tells you how many songs are in the list now also tells you the # of how many you've selected, their size & their overall duration.

Little things like that are what I truly appreciate about these updates.

As said before: Hold the Option Key while Clicking on the "Green Traffic Light" It will put you in Mini Player Mode.

Why did they make this change to begin with? That was a behavior that I hated on the Windows version if iTunes.

I believe they're trying to make the green button more consistent across the OS. It's now a "fit content" button, instead of a "do whatever the hell you want" button.

iTunes 9 feels like iTunes 8 when it first launched. iTunes store was kind of slow, and overall felt kind of buggy. Although it did seem to get better for some reason, without an update.

Favorite simple feature...

I loved that when you clicked the green zoom button at the top in previous versions it changed the iTunes window to the mini-player. Does anyone know how to get this back? I used the keyboard shortcut and view menu options to get the window to the mini-player, but zooming out and hitting it again does not return the window to the mini-player. It just expands the window.

Update:

Just hold down the option key while clicking the green button. Answered my own question. Still, this should be a choice in the preferences.

Because the new apps in Snow Leopard are built for Snow Leopard. Apple isn't going to port its new apps to an old OS. However, iTunes MUST stay backward compatible. Go ahead and take Snow Leopard's mail client and try and open it on a PPC Tiger machine.
Ehm, ever heard of universal binaries? They could make an Cocoa version of iTunes containing 32-64bit PPC and 32-64bit Intel. For Snow Leopard they could maintain a 'special' release without PowerPC code.

The problem is, I think it requires a big Cocoa rewrite and I don't think Apple wants to do that right now (or they are working on it for version 10/X).

I was wondering the same thing. Thanks for the update! :D
I wonder why they changed that?

iTunes store slow

Is it me or the network, loading is much slower than before. Sometimes the scroll bar just stopped.

Also, not fond of the new store layout. It looks windowsmediaplayerish.

i don't give a damn about 64-bit or cocoa, but i am very annoyed that my library STILL takes 5 minutes to load, with 99% cpu during that time.

i wish apple would fix itunes to load the database faster.

I've just updated my iTunes to version 9 and I saw that my Windows Live Messenger don't show what I'm listening now...my options are okay. I've checked the preferences, my MSN options. Everything is turned on. My operating system is Windows XP. Anybody know what to do?

Did some more testing this morning.

It let me sync Futurama which was ripped with the Apple TV profile, but not Red Dwarf or Firefly which were also ripped with the Apple TV profile.

Guess I'll wait and see if the Handbrake guys figure out what is going on.

I must be in the minority that like the new update. I like the fresh white look and the wishlist loads faster than my old shopping cart used to. Being able to finally manage apps is more than welcome. The update to the store is the best part though. Looks fab on a big screen. :D:cool:

White background? Really? No option to have a choice between white, black or grey?

Also, if iTunes needs a section for radio stations, why not redesign that part. It's looks and feels like a turd salad.

Maybe in future updates they will let you change it like you can in Iphoto where you have the colour slider.

Choice... in an Apple product?

I kid :]

Updated from Software Update. When I started iTunes 9, it said that is adusting the music for gapless play, and every time, somewhere between 500 and the 4700 songs I have, I got a spinning ball that never goes away no matter how long I wait.

Let it run for over an hour once and the spinning ball never went away. I cannot even force quit!!! I have to to a hard restart. I have tried this five times now and I cannot seem to avoid the spinning beach ball...

Anyone else having a similar problem?

I am running OS10.5.8 on a 24" iMac.

Got it up and running. Talked to an Apple genius at a nearby store. He suggested that I simply turn everything off and let iTunes run a LONG LONG time. It took 2.5 hours, but it finally finished going through the library and now seems to be working fine.

If you are having hangups and spinning beach balls, try shutting everything else off and just let it run over night....

Hope that helps.

I think unifying the behaviour of the Zoom button is a good idea. Also, changing from black to white backrounds will seem 'blinding' at first, but it's really more consistent with most applications on both Windows and Mac OS X. I think it's just the sudden change that makes it seem worse. Mind you, it would be even nicer to have a slider like iPhoto.

I don't mind the slight difference in the window style, but I do wish they'd stick with something. iTunes has tended to be the testing ground for new UI ideas from Apple which then get propagated (unified window look, all-caps sidebar grouping labels) except for some strange exceptions (scroll bars - I want those throughout the system!).

Oh, and maybe some moderator can put the option-click Zoom mini player info in the first post on the first page? Clearly no one is bothering to read all 20 pages of this thread anymore, so every page has multiple posts whining about this change and/or claiming that there's NO WAY to get the mini-player any more.
