Two updates, I haven't seen mentioned:

1. Safari's toolbar doesn't auto hide anymore in fullscreen, only the status bar disappears. It was annoying that the tabs would auto hide, so I'm glad they're back. But I really don't need to address bar all the time.

2. The login panel has a pale brownish tint to it.

This is the login screen when you lock your screen. It plays the default screen saver.

Reminds me of Ubuntu's Login Screen somehow...

Really looking forward to Lion and all the new features.

The new wallpapers are underwhelming, though (not that it is of any real importance - I seem to prefer a simple dark grey background colour over any wallpaper).

I sent this to Apple (Craig):

Don't know if it makes it into Lion, but what do you think?
Works pretty well with the other nature images, or?

Maybe the horizon is tilted little bit to the right, but that can be fixed. :)

Nice UI improvements, but how about any 'Real' improvements?

I did noticed the CUT function in Finder; now that's a big improvement! Anything else?

What else has improved besides the UI?

Was the OS itself optimized to run faster?

Was all code re-compiled in 64-bit?

Any new functionality such as:

- Remote storage auto-backup and synchronization (FTP, WebDAV, etc.)?
- AirPlay client?
- AirPrint server support for regular printers?
- NTFS r/w support?

I'm excited by the new UI improvements, but what are the real changes that makes this be a major update?

Hi Guys, the old method to delete apps from the launchpad seems to no longer work in this new developer preview 3: anyone has a hint on how to do on this new build?
Many thanks!

I can't believe how much quicker (no snappy jokes) safari is. It doesn't splutter when opening a new tab and showing top sites, it opens instantly, everything is just so...smooth.

Have they re-wrote it or something?

Love reading lists and love the downloads pop-over (from DP2).

I don't know if anyone has seen this but the "can't find" page is nicer too, like the login screen

This OS looks so awesome. I can't wait until early summer 2012 when it begins to stabilize and is a proper product to buy. This one learned the hard way across the past half-dozen years.

Ditto. It had been so long time since Apple lost interest in making MacOS UI beautiful and now whole those attemptings are truly amazing. At least they now got off their ass.

Is it just me or do the buttons at the bottom of the new login screen really feel like something you'd see on a touch screen..? I see the image and my mind instantly wants to just press them with my finger.

I wonder if we'll see them (touch screens) from Apple any time in the near future.

Since DP2, if you click and hold an App icon in Launchpad, they start to wiggle just like iOS and a black "X" shows up on the upper left corner of the icon.

Screen Sharing now has Full Screen option

New Feature: Screen Sharing can now go full screen!!!

That has been in OS X as long as I can remember. It signifies being in a folder where the current user does not have write permissions. Usually the easiest way to replicate it would be to go to into the System folder.

So funny, I have never noticed it before but now makes perfect sense. Permissions, such a pain, I hate when I change a permission for a folder and it's subfolders, but the folder above it negates that change, and back I go to the first folder lol.

Thanks!

You can still change the background by placing any picture of your choice (I've always done this, including changing the "Dock" to black to I can better see the Dock applications indicator - don't know why Apple uses the default silver with blue/silver orbs).

in the /System/Library/Core Services folder, replace the "defaultdesktop.jpg" with any pic as long as it's the name is the same.

Still disappointed there hasn't been an overhaul of the OpenGL stack. Its been 5 years since 2.1
And that is why Lion supports GL 3.2...

^This. Major issue on Apple's part, OpenGL 3+ should have been supported back in L/SL. Current tests don't support OpenGL 3.2, unless this recent build does. The Cupertino Engineers are aware of it on the Lion forum, and state they are working on it. I'll run GLview and check it out.

Would also like TRIM support for third party Sandforce SSD's. You can use work arounds such as modifying the "IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext/Contents/MacOS/IOAHCIBlockStorage" (directions How to activate TRIM on any SSD) or using groth's "TRIM Enabler."
