I can't update my iMac, it's at the genius bar for the next five days:(:( and now I'm stuck with my old G3 for the next couple of days!!! Oh well. Just have to wait.

Anyways back on topic, With apple releasing Leo updates so fast, it makes me wonder if they're rushing these, and they'll end up just causing more problems. Does anyone know if this update helped with the noise issue on the AL iMacs?

Don

As a, not so proud, owner of one of the noisier iMacs I would have liked to give you a prompt answer to this. However my iMac currently sits at the repair shop. I finally decided to turn it in, to have the main fan replaced.

They said they replaced it, but afterwards also found that the logic board needed to be fixed. So I am without the iMac since almost 2 weeks and I dearly hope that the noise problem is fixed, either by the HW exchange or by 10.5.4...

graphics glitch

So, my graphics glitch seems to have come back after installing 10.5.4 on my 2.2 MBP. It hadn't shown up since installing 10.5.3.

I'm about at a loss with Apple lately.

The update has cured the olnly problem I was having with my MBP - connecting to wireless after a reboot. I am now a happy new owner!

my macbook pro is definitely running cooler. also does anyone find that finder is faster when browsing through folders? there is less lag when opening folders.

rss in mail

since the update i'm having trouble with rss feeds updating in mail. idk if its something i did or if it was the update.

is anybody else having problems with this?

Before I get too giddy

Has anyone noticed if translucent menus are back with this update? I am on pain meds so it is a little difficult for me to tell... but it seems as if they are.

Still the same as since 10.5.2. If you look really hard you can see a little bit through them.

Nope, didn't fix Airport dropout issue...*sigh* yari yari yari :( looks like Tiger will remain my main OS

The fix for this has been ported all over the net if you bothered to look. Just go to these files and delete:

1) /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist

2) /Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconfig.plist

3) /Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist

After deleting the files you must restart and after the restart re-select your wireless connection points. If this doesn't fix the issue, take to an Apple store or repair center.

How do you revert back to 10.5.3 after you have already installed 10.5.4?

Downloaded
installed restarted
waited waited waited
hard boot
waiting waiting waiting
waiting
grey apple screen
waiting waiting
blue screen wait some more
wait some more ...
finally a login screen
poof everything runs slow.

restart
same deal

I'm switching back to 10.5.3

How do you revert back to 10.5.3 after you have already installed 10.5.4?

Well, in my case, I would boot into 10.5.3 on my backup drive created with Carbon Copy Cloner and then start disk utility and tell it to restore the 10.5.5 drive using the 10.5.3 drive and delete what's on it in the process. I'm then back to 10.5.3 on both the primary and backup drive with no hassles at all.

Don't even get me started on how braindead the PPC to Intel switch was. The PPC architecture is superior for speed and stability. I went with the Intel machine because I assumed that it would ensure better long-term compatibility.
 You're joking, right?

Well - Safari is broken. Scrolling up and down complex pages ( such as this thread ) I get ripping and tearing in the rendering of the page. I also get ripping and artifacting as a large jPG downloads.

Never ever happened before 10.5.4 last night.

Doug

Nice. You get to join the club of people who have had that at least intermittently since the Leopard Graphics Update shipped :). For me 10.5.3 started that particular instance of the issue, but this machine hasn't yet seen an OS that does its graphics quite right :(.

Well I was so busy being so goshdarn vigilant, I updated BOTH my computer's hard drive AND backup drive to 10.5.4. On top of that, I waited an hour for the full combo updater, since I was told that combo updaters are more reliable than simply using the software update. So, no reverting back to .3 for me.

I was really happy with the speed of .3 but for some reason I just LOVE having the latest update!

I see that Apple still haven't resolved the display issues with the Penryn MBPs despite knowing about them for months. Very shoddy, getting fed up with this.

Speaking of using the combo updater.

If you recall (you propably don't so here it is again): For once I didn't use the combo updater, but rather the "incremental" update, as I didn't feel like downloading more than half a gig of update.
Turned out iSync got effed – it wouldn't even open. No matter what I did to rectify the situation.

However, this morning (it's 8.53 am as I'm writing this) I just rebooted after having downloaded and installed the combo-updater. This time around, my effing iSync works!
So, the other couple of people whose iSync gave up the ghost entirely, it might be worth a try downloading the combo.

Let us know if it works for you too, or if my "efforts" were just a lonely swallow.

Leopard not shutting down

I believe this problem started after downloaded and installed the last update: Leopard won't shut down. The only thing I see is the round little animation and nothing else happens. Have to force it to shut down every time.

Help anyone?

Thanks!

I'm sorry, i haven't read all 16 pages of this discussion.

But my MBP (15" 2.16 Core Duo) and Mac Pro (2008) both have stopped mounting FW HD's since i updated... i did it on the Mac Pro first and thought it must have just been bad luck that the FW800 WD MyBook Pro drive died then.

Got home from my studio and installed it on my MBP to see if it would stop the airport dropping out all the time. It didn't, and now my FW400 drive at home won't mount either.

Great.

Anyone else got this?

Cheers

Someone else earlier in the thread had trouble mounting a FireWire 800 drive, so you're not the only one.

Did you unplug the drives (firewire cables, not power) before applying the update? OS updates in the past have been known to kill external drives or their controllers, especially fw drives. ALWAYS unplug any unnecessary equipment before doing an OS update! The only things that I leave plugged are my external keyboard and mouse.

If it wasn't safe to update your OS with drives plugged in, don't you think Apple would put a dialog in place that says something like "Please unplug any external drives connected to this machine before applying this update."???

It would be good if they did, but unfortunately they do not. However, there have been numerous instances in the past with external drives being destroyed by an OS update (even with the drives powered off), so to be certain I always unplug them beforehand. I can try to find links for you if you like. To me it just makes sense; you are updating something that can potentially cause external i/o devices to become unstable, if even for a short time, since the OS drivers control these external interfaces.
