Just e-mailed Steve Jobs about this, not that he would care but meh :D

I'm not gonna update my iMac until this gets fixed. By then, Snow Leopard will be out lol.

Yeah that sucks :(

My issues were insignificant compared to what your system is doing.
Obviously you've tried restarting with no screen plugged in and then plugging it in, right?

Sorry I can't help more.

And yours is actually a VALID issue, and pretty unique as well.

Thanks,

Well here's the latest on the issue which is affecting quite a lot around the web in different Mac Forums.

But to be honest even this switchResX is driving me nuts... it's not even close to looking like it used to... the text is hard to read and the entire thing is way too dark now.

Apple has had issues like this before, but NOT THIS BAD!

And yeah I've tried to reboot without the DVI to HDMI plug in. I tried to zap the PRam but it's not responding to my Keyboard... I don't get that by the way, for a while now the Mac Mini when restarting doesn't reply to my keyboard.

Installed and got stuck on a blue screen. Every few seconds a loading wheel would pop up but that would repeat over and over and it wouldn't go anywhere. I powered off my 17" MBP unibody and tried again. Same thing. The third time I got the Leopard background with a loading wheel that spun a few times, then the computer restarted itself.

Finally, I am able to log in. Hopefully this is stable.

I was getting that too. I did basically the same, forced it to turn off about about 10 minutes of it cycling through blue screens, and turned it back on, then it finished the install. Just to be safe I reapplied the update and it worked perfectly that time.

I had this exact same problem. I tried installing the 400mb pack through software update and I was missing the power settings menu. I then tried installing the 700mb pack from the apple site and it still didn't fix it. I'm currently in the process of reinstalling OSX.. and then I'll be applying the 700mb pack. I'll let you know if that works out.

I'm disappointed. I just reinstalled OSX from scratch and then applied the combo update thinking it would fix the power settings menu problem... but it didn't. Any other suggestions guys? It seems like there's been two cases of the power settings not appearing in the menu bar so far.

looks like they've pulled it now.
tried software update just a minute ago on my mac pro and it's no longer there...

I'm very disappointed with Apple. Come on. How hard does it take to make sure the update works for people? I've never had any problems with any update until now.

Blue screen froze for about 30 min so I had to force shutdown, then it rebooted 3 times and now I finally see my desktop.

Seriously...

EXACTLY the same thing happened for me on my 17" MBP running 10.5.6 fresh install to my new SSD.

My Mac Pro is stuck on "Running Installer Script" (about 10 minutes). What should I do? Is it safe to turn the computer off when an update is being installed?

Does anybody else not have the option to select graphics cards from the menu bar after installing 10.5.7?

If you installed it and did an Archive and Install make sure the first thing you do after it boots up for the first time is to permanently delete the old archived system folder. I noticed that the os updater is dumb and it actually updated the archived system folder and NOT the freshly installed OS. You can check this by comparing the version numbers for iCal.app or System Preferences.app in both the archived folder and your running install. You'll notice that the archived system folder actually gets updated..

Hmm, i should really open a bug report with Apple about this but i just don't have time to mess around with my system in order to offer them proof..

Downloaded in 20 seconds, installed and double restarted (once for Safari) and everything was done in about 5 minutes.

Everything seems to be working so far, and the new safari beta seems a lot faster and smoother.

Man, I wonder what happened? Apple seems to have really dropped the ball this time. Especially after spending so much stinkin time on this update!!

ok so i swapped my pci cards around to take advantage of the speeds...if i reboot and the expansion slot utility doesn't launch then does that mean its working? is there a way to check?

edit: nm i found expansion slot utility located in system>library>core services
