There was a few reports of this in the thread that broke, along with a resolution. You need to search for a config utility to get it working. Sorry I cant help more with the name

Thank you that's more than I could find... ;)

I'll go hunt for it, I sure hope there's a chance to fix this, it was perfect before and now this...
:(

Why do people keep asking the same questions over and over?!?!

Just read a couple of posts before you post and most likely you'll find an answer for your issue!

You mean read 177 post right? Typical... because answering politely instead of pointing out what you just said saved you so much energy?

I don't get what happened to common courtesy.

Updated using manually-downloaded combo (729MB). Working fine here.

I had to reapply my multitouch hack, but that was easy enough. You never realize how much you use the four-finger swipes until they aren't there anymore!:D

Success!

OK after my problems using software update I downloaded the 443 mb file from the apple site, installed...had to do a hard shutdown, it rebooted itself a couple of times, then booted up fine in 10.5.7. I did a permission repair using disk utility...it didn't need to repair anything...downloaded the safari beta b and here I am. Everything doe seem to be running a bit snappier. I find that is usually the case with an update like this.

MBP 2.6 ghz, 4 gb ram

Whazzzit?

OK. Mac Pro. 2.0 GHZ 6MB Memory.

I could not install 10.5.7 via Software Update. Tried it twice. All sorts of errors and it would not download. Went for the combo package. Downloaded OK. Took a long time tho on a fast DSL connection. Installed and did a restart. Spinning wheel spinning, stopped spinning, spinning, stopped, etc. Hit the power button on my MacPro to shut it down. OK. Did restart. Start up ok, Leopard galaxy screen came up -- which I do not use. Wait, wait, wait. Mac auto restarted twice. finally got my desktop and all seems well so far. We'll see. I've NEVER had a problem like this before on my G4 or my MacPro.

Hope all is well. But something is or was fishy with this update.

I hope Apple is not becoming Microsloth.

Edit:

Installed Safari 4 Beta. Did a restart and ran AppleJack. Seemed to do its job OK. Now time will tell.

No Problems

I didn't even realize the update came out today. I logged onto my Mac when I got home from work, saw an update, and installed it. The whole thing, including dual reboot, only took about 10 minutes. Maybe I was lucky on this one.

There! I changed it!

I didnt mean that in a rude way. It's just that the whole thread is being bogged down with the same problem and the solutions are getting lost among all that!

Why don't you guys learn: download the Combo

I don't get a lot of you guys who are having trouble downloading 10.5.7 using the Software Update from the Apple menu.

If you post here, it means (presumably) that you read this forum regularly. If so, you would have read infinitum that, whenever there's a major OSX update, the safest thing for your system is to download the Combo .dmg file -- the one that contains all the updates from 10.5.1 through to the latest -- and re-installs everything nicely.

Ever since about 10.5.2, I've been doing that without trouble. Surely by now this is widespread knowledge, at least for people who regularly read this forum. And if you're posting here, chances are you should be regular readers.

Sheeesh, you guys.

There were posts in the thread that was here before it got deleted about resolution problems. Someone was trying to use a Samsung 4 Series or tv or something.. I don't remember. I don't think it ever got resolved. This update seems to have introduced more problems than it has fixed. :(

Thanks, yeah I'm on a Series 4 model... Sucks to be me right now... Why oh why does it always happen? Instead of a simple update, a world of odd bugs appear... I wish I could downgrade to the OS before this without any major complications. :(

Thanks a Yahoo Apple.

Apparently 10.5.7 didn't fix the permission data related to iLife apps in the reference .bom, and Disk Utility still gives a bunch of permission discrepancies when repairing permissions. I know this isn't a problem per se because it's just .bom fooled Disk Utility into believing there should be real files when actually there are symbolic links. But I was expecting 10.5.7 to fix it.

I had a bunch of iPhoto ones that used to appear - they've gone now.

Ok, sorry I didn't mean to snap, I'm just frustrated that my screen is all crazy now and I have no clue what went wrong. I've tried everything and it's a bit hard to search through anything with texts that look like small bugs. I'm in shock at how this could happen. It's completely unaware that a TV is plugged into it and the resolutions are all wrong. It's not meant to do those numbers and yet it does... albeit not very well...

:/

It doesn't matter what you are using. If you are using TV or HDMI connection, resolution is screwed up. Use switchresx for temporary solution.

I got around this by downloading the file from the 1st post of the thread. The only issue though, is I got stuck on a blue screen, had to power down hard style, then it self-rebooted 2-3 times after I powered up; now all is well.

After having the same issue, I did Disk Utilities and Tech Tool Pro 4, just prior to download.
Everything was fine (it's a new machine).
Then I took it from the original post, then got the 'Blue Screen!' after 10 years of owning a Mac, I've never had that!
It just went on for an hour, I thought maybe I'd leave it, in hope it was just taking time to re-boot itself.
In the end I switched it off and did a reset Pram on it!

Then it just continued to restart itself maybe 5 times!

I've now turned it off completely, unplugged it from the wall and taken all usb/firewire/speaker connections out, and I'm off to bed...

eFF it!
I'll work it out 2moro...

Night all...x

while I agree that the combo is the superior download, the regular update through software update is sufficient for most users. the combo update is most useful if you have problems... but if your current install isn't giving you problems, there really isn't any reason why software update won't give you a problem-free update.

but, if an issue arises, the combo will likely fix it:)
