So far so good on my Santa Rosa (Merom) BlackBook.

  • Battery Status menu has the profile options back.
  • Energy Saver prefpane now uses the new CFL icon, even though my MacBook doesn't have the LED display.
  • Theme applied by Magnifique is lost, needs to be reapplied.
  • iTunes is not automatically updated! Good, safe for now.

I used Apple Software update and installed and updated from Mac OS X 10.5.6 with no problems. My computer restarted once after rebooting OS X and then let me log in after the restart. No problems ^^

I wasn't having any problems with 10.5.6 but I decided I may as well update.. for the security patches at least!

Just updated and couldn't be more glad. The Spotlight searching behavior has changed! Previously I couldn't search while the spotlight was indexing my drive, however now it continues to index while showing me the results on the top of the results box. Love it!

I just installed the update on my MacBook Pro, as listed in my signature. The install took almost no time, and went smoothly.

Ran the 10.5.7 update on an Unibody MacBook Pro 2,4. Used the combo installer due to earlier hickups reported with SU.

Ok install but there were a lot of 'beachball's after it had rebooted twice. After a third reboot they seem less but they're still there.

Have several issues I still have to investigate to see if they're fixed but yes, it does seem a tad snappier (when it's not beachballing). If you're having issues try the combo installer. Software Update has been quirky a long time.

Anyone found the elusive, mysterious folder it keeps the packages in when selecting 'install and keep packages'? (It doesn't, I know) :D

Be careful out there and backup your important data before updating, ok?

messed up my display screen and i can't change the resolution...god i wished i haven't downloaded this stupid update...

Did a clean reinstall, 10.5, import settings and virtually everything using Time Machine, reboot, still having problems, had to do a Safe Boot, got the correct resolution back, but still whenever i boot back normally, it won't display anything. Did another safe boot, set to a different res and then the working res, reboot and thats done the job. God I'm never downloading another Apple Update....

SU doesn't have any new software for your computer at this time.

I keep trying to get the update. Not working for me. I have a unibody 15" MBP with 10.5.6

Everything ran smoothly for me, although I still have the old light-bulb icon for energy saver preferences. The new one looks sooooo cool too :(

And is the schedule option new or have I just completely missed it up until now?

This will do nicely for my freshly installed WD 500 GB Scorpio Blue in my SR Macbook. Can't wait to get home!

Energy Saving Icon

The updated Energy Saving Icon on my MBP Sys prefs was showing the old incandescent bulb rather than the energy saving bulb. I checked the icon in the library, and it was the new icon ... so I had to clean out the cache in my personal library to get the energy saving icon to update.

More info here (you might only need to do the final step of clearing out your cache):

"close all open windows and navigate to your user folder, then open Library, then Caches. In that folder delete the file called com.apple.preferencepanes.cache."

Whoa... that was a first...

My auto update didn't work, but it did tell me there was an update. I clicked install, and it said it was corrupted, so I just downloaded the update directly. The install ran fine, but then locked up the machine and turned my mail icon into a folder. Weird. I hard rebooted and everything seems fine.. Odd update, but whatever... Seems to work ok.

no problems

installed from software update. 449 MB. download was fast and painless, as was the updating. no problems noted so far. oh, except in order to get my external keyboard and trackball to work, i had to unplug and replug.

i'm hoping this update will fix persistent graphics errors i've had (NVChannel timeout freezes, primary display forgetting my color presets).

i wonder whether the people experiencing errors with these updates might be those who had other apps open during the installation? that seems foolish to me, so i always close everything else while i update.

All ok here

Installed on my iMac and MacBook Unibody all smoothly in good time also. :D

Install went smoothly on my Intel iMac using SU, but now Software Update doesn't work anymore. I'm on 10.5.7, but now when I choose Software Update from the Apple menu nothing happens. Think I'll run the Combo Updater off Apple's site.

Couldn't that also be a problem related to bad MSN code? Why attribute this to Safari 4? Even if it worked in Safari 3 it could be that the new internet standards that 4 is compliant to are not working with bad MSN code?

I'm not an expert, but I also don't attribute this constant Flash crashing by default to the browser. Some of the providers should look into the adherence of their code to internet standards.

So why are only some of the users affected? Not to mention I had to do 2 reinstalls of Safari to get my spell check back, it would highlight the word but give no spelling corrections. Go figure

It's likely that the fault lies with poor coding on MS's part, and its upto THEM to fix it.
Also, try Adium.

Yes, I know its bad code, BUT it means I can't use Safari 4 because of it. Also, if you read my other post, I said I don't want to use another client because I don't like them. So yes, until MacBU fix it, I'm in limbo. No need to make snide remarks

The load on Apple's servers seems to have decreased considerably :)

Almost 20MB/s is not that bad.

Woah... where the hell do you live and what speed? I'm lucky if I get more than 900kb/s on ADSL

Updated my MacBook last night with the c.400meg version (not via software update because it said it would take 3 hours to download).

Mine seemed to crash and the screen changed between blue -> corrupted white and blue garbage -> and a spinning wheel. It did this for about 20 mins before I decided to kill it with a long press of the power button.

After it restarted, it 'bonged' 3 times, rebooted twice and then the log in prompt appeared.

It says its installed in Software Update, but I'm skeptical :p

I've got a backup of just before the install, so I might restore that, and try again.

The same thing happened during the update on my 20" iMac.
