I guess there will be another update soon to the airport utility. I hope they include a firmware update as well.

CPU usage is very high!

I downloaded and installed the update several hours ago. Since then my CPU usage has varied between 51% and 72% according to iStat Pro, even when my 2.4GHz 24" iMac is at rest. I will continue to monitor this.

That's not right. Check the Activity Monitor.

Perhaps iStat is reporting incorrectly or you have things running that you don't know about.

The OpenGL drivers weren't updated in my 10.6.3 combo update. Seems odd. Wonder if it's video card dependent?

How would you know if your openGL drivers were updated? Would the drivers be in the system profiler? My update was only around 450mb and I have a 2008 Alu 2.4ghz MacBook.

Unfortunately, I was not able to run XBench before 10.6.3 so I only have my results with .3 here

Any other 9400M macbook users care to share?

Why are people using color profiles for files on their displays?

To get accurate color I use a calibration device. This creates a color profile for the display. You can also do it alright manually through system preferences for monitor. It's important to me with my photography work.

I get 91% 3.0 support here..

So that's an improvement.. I wonder how important those last few % are? I'm on an 8800GTS imac.

And Parallels does seem quite a bit smoother. I don't think I'm imagining it!

Pardon my ignorance here but is there any real benefit of booting up to 64bit mode? My 64 bit apps have been running in full 64 bit mode without issue. Why are people mentioning the 64 bit kernel so much today? I was under the impression that it didn't matter if your Mac was booted into 32 or 64 bit mode, the 64 bit apps would still run the same. Am I wrong here?

Some 64 bit apps work a little better when running on the 64 bit kernel.

Pixelmator seems to run better

I've been using Pixelmator to edit photos, and noticed that with certain features, there could be a bit of a lag. Pixelmator relies on openGL. It appears, after a few minutes of use, that the lag is gone, so I guess the drivers did get better.

When you run the test, the test for OGL for 3.0 will fail. Though it might be partially supported, it isn't full. Originally the GeForce 8 series shipped with only 2.1 support. Later they updated the drivers with 3.2 support. I am 99% sure that the drivers on OS X for the 8 series only support 2.1 as we almost never get graphics card updates (Apple controls the graphics drivers, this is why we never do). Hopefully soon Apple will actually released graphics updates

The 64 bit kern can grant access to gobs and gobs of memory... more memory then even a MacPro can hold... that is about it.

ps... gobs is a technical term

I've had my iMac freeze twice since updating! Once while watching Hulu, once while just browsing (no Flash involved). Not good!

Very cool, thanks to both of you for the info. I was unaware. The update when fine for me on my i7 iMac. Decided to boot up to the 64 bit kernel just for the heck of it, runs great so far. Too bad there's no way to prevent it from going back to 32bit after a restart without holding down the 6 and 4 keys. As others have mentioned, the Open GL numbers in Xbench went up significantly, this is great for when Valve gets here next month.

Yes there is:

So I guess I chose the wrong time to restore from Time Machine. (Bootcamp didn't want to let me partition so I updated to 10.6.3 with the combo update, updated my TM backup, and then restored from the backup). My computer won't restart now.

I'm getting kernel panics despite trying a safe start, SMC reset, PRAM reset. It says at the top panic(cpu 0 caller 0x2a96f6): "Version mis-match between Kernel and CPU PM"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1504/osfmk/i386/pmCPU.c:720.

You may have to reinstall from the DVD. It's supposed to keep the latest software update on when you reinstall. Let us know how that goes.

Anyone notice the picture of the Snow Leopard for the desktop that is like the box cover has been cleaned up around the lips and the blood is no longer present?
