I don't see it mentioned yet in this thread, so i'll double my previous post by pointing out that eleven security fixes in 10.6.3 (as well as Security Update 2010-002 for Leopard 10.5.8) came courtesy of “working with TippingPoint's Zero Day Initiative”. Rather timely i'd say... as that Pwn2Own contest was held barely 5 days prior to this 10.6.3 release.

When I change a Finder's View Options and click "use as defaults" it does NOT use as defaults with other folders. I notice it mostly applies to the folders ABOVE my home folder. If I set my home folder to have a green background in icon view, and click "use as defaults" then restart, ONLY top-most folders are effected. /, /Users, /Users/Cheeto and the "folder" that contains /.
"Use as defaults" will only affect folders that aren't already set to some customized view. If you want a customized view to adopt the current default, then press the option key to make the 'Use as Defaults' button change to 'Restore to Defaults' before clicking it.

As demonstrated by the statistics that show that 5 to 6.5 times more people are using Windows 7 alone than are using 10.6.
No *****. While one has to acknowledge that some postings of blind mac"fanboy-ism" can be annoying and it is good to give some contra once in a while to keep the discussions somewhat balanced, I also find that statements like these borderline silly. Trying too hard comes to my mind, which is equally annoying
Agreed. As if the measure of OS quality is some sort of popularity contest.

In the immortal words of Derrick Story:
"Regardless of how Apple corporate wants to portray its products,
the Mac isn't a machine for the masses any more than red wine is
the preferred beverage at baseball games.

So who cares about ubiquity anyway?

I did not have the 64bit Kernel either so I rebooted and held down the 6 and 4 keys until the apple logo showed up. Now I am showing 64 bit no problem.

Safari is much much snappier, spaces and expose are much better and the loading of pref panes in system preferences is much much faster.

All in all very good.

ohhh finally!!!!!!! :D thaaaank you!!!! ehehe now i have the kernel 64bit active

btw, "Secure Virtual Memory: Not Enabled" do you know what's this for? i saw someone here with this activated.

Is it any different?

APC Power Chute gobbling CPU usage

I downloaded and installed the update several hours ago. Since then my CPU usage has varied between 51% and 72% according to iStat Pro, even when my 2.4GHz 24" iMac is at rest. I will continue to monitor this.

Stiill at the same CPU usage. According to Activity Monitor, the culprit is "comapcpowerchute", the software for my APC UPS. Anyone else have this?

Is Blurb Booksmart broken for anyone else since the update. I know it was broken with one release of Snow Leopard, but they fixed it. Looks (for me anyway) like it's broke again.

I have no issues to report here with CoD4 on my iMac and NVIDIA 8800GS, and haven't noticed any performance problems compared to 10.6.2...1920x1200, all maxed out and the same average 30/40 fps during a game session.

Well I figured it out. I am running a flashed PC version of the Radeon 4870. Turns out that the new Radeon 48xx drivers with 10.6.3 do not work well with flashed cards. (which is strange since the ROM is from the Apple Cards)

I reverted back to the 10.6.2 ATI kext files and everything is working great again.

Apple isn't happy with you saving money obviously.

Everything's A-OK

Hey there everyone, I'm new to the forums but just wanted to report my system specs and that my process using the combo update went off perfectly! My MBP was running well before the update but I feel as if it's even more responsive now on 10.6.3.

A sidenote: For anyone using using ProTools LE 8.0.3 cs1, all I can say is that mine is running perfectly, again, I feel it's more responsive than before the update.

I'm on a MBP (Late 2008) 2.53g / 4g Ram, and updated from 10.6.2

I did use OnyX to repair permissions and clear system cache before running the COMBO update as another precaution.

I was most nervous about ProTools after seeing Roadbloc's post about it screwing him up but he was kind enough to hit me back and let me know he was good to go after a reboot! Hope all this helps ease someone's mind who's "chomping at the bit" to run this update.

Cheers

Writing good high performance drivers for Intel GPU hardware is near impossible. It isn't an Apple problem either as the X3100 suck stones on any platform and frankly it would be a waste of time for Apple to put to much effort into it.

Sorry, but the technical explanation valid as it may be does not exonerate Apple in this case: Apple is in control of the hardware and the software, as we all know, so any mismatch between the two is unforgivable.

Also, why did I have absolutely no graphics glitches whatsoever under 10.5.x and the same circumstances (number of spaces, amount of RAM, open applications, etc.)? Clearly, there is a coding issue at work here.

So...as it would seem I have to go folder-by-folder FIRST modifying a view setting THEN clicking "Restore to Defaults" to make it apply my custom settings...no sir, that is not the Mac way and I simply won't have it. I'm suing Apple, that's the only solution.

Anybody have Johnny Cochran's new number?

Edit: I just deleted all .DS_Store files using Terminal and it applied the setting I created. Great, though it's funny I didn't have to do that in Leopard -.-'

Sorry grasshopper, but you have failed to grasp that more people would be upset if setting their default view always destroyed all their custom views. Default view is one thing and custom views are another. Back to Performa class then to learn what 'Mac way' means. [Your first sentence is so off i can't determine how to straighten it out.]

Oh, so the "mac way" has changed between Leopard and Snow Leopard? Because I didn't have to crouch by the cliff with a jewel in LEOPARD just to change my settings.

I had NO custom settings EXCEPT my home folder! Yet, when I changed my home folder and clicked "use as defaults" certain folders were simply NOT effected! And last night I deleted the .DS_Store files with Onyx, which means NONE of my folders had any customization.

Bluetooth connection Issues with Wii Remote

After the update my magic mouse doesn't work anymore. Under bluetooth pref it says the mouse is connected, but the pointer doesn't move.

I am also having issues with bluetooth. I try to pair my wii remote and it says it is connected, but not paired in bluetooth preferences.

I am using an iMac 2.93GHz with 4Gb RAM and trying to use Max MSP to grab the data from the wii remote. I have had numerous connection problems before this update, and am sad it is still not fixed. The wii connects fine with Windows - but I am not about to switch back. Please help!!!

So help me I will never install a major update from Apple again without manually downloading and installing the combo update.

Ever.

Keyboard input randomly goes out when it wants.
Stuck at moving things to trash. Well, stuck at stopping moving things to trash.
Cannot write certain things to my own external hard drive. I apparently don't have the permissions when trying to back up files.

I guess not! Silly me for getting a video card with double the RAM for 1/2 the price... And silly me for wanting up upgrade the only mac designed to be upgraded.

Although, technically even Apple's own 4870 isn't supported in my 1st gen Mac Pro!! I guess I'd better buy a new Mac Pro. Anyone have $3,000 laying around they want to give me?

I used the combo update and still get the issues with the trash on two separate computers. So that's not the problem.

Whoa!

I installed 10.6.3, and this thing's running like a brand-new Mac Pro!

Oh right . . . it is a brand-new Mac Pro. That Geekbench score is up by ~200 points from 10.6.2 to 10.6.3, BTW.

Thats fine if you don't want to upgrade. I understand your point of view so don't jump down my throat after you read this,

But if everyone had that philosophy then nobody would have any new tech and innovation would be incredibly slow as no one would want to try new stuff.

I adhere to what you're saying but doesn't that depend on the reason for the update? I did'nt read the release notes but if the update is to fix things than the post you was responding to makes lots of sense.

since updating to 10.6.3 I just searched for a file in Finder, it did not see it. I tried again in Spotlight. No results either. The file is clearly on my desktop. I searched again all with no results. Then I opened the same named file on desktop file (after I finally saw it visually) (.mp3) and it opened. I closed it and searched again, then it showed in Spotlight. Wierd! Is there a way or should I re-index Spotlight, or whatever I might try? Thanks. I have re-booted since 10.6.3. a few times. The update routine has been successful all around, except this.

If my computer froze during the update (via the combo updater), and I forced a restart, and I got back into my account no problems (also says 10.6.3 in profiler), am I in the clear? Can you reinstall the update for good measure?
