So Leopard 10.5 users aren't invited to this party either...unless we pay to upgrade to SL. Hurrumph!

I never upgraded but I can understand their reasoning here as it is a neater approach and makes it easier to sync apps in the store and the OS--too bad for me too but not really unexpected. I have no reason for not updating to Snow Leopard other than I just haven't done it.

Grand Opening ... Fail

Before i Start I posted this same comment on apples discussion as a new thread, mac app store review and post to back to problems with mac app store. after 20 min both my comment and post were censored by apple and deleted?? Pretty sad on apples part to censor users to keep their rep up...

I have been using this app store for about a little over an hour, and I am very disappointed. When i first installed it I could not even download a free app to test, because the store kept freezing and crashing. Finally on my fourth try I figured i would first login and associate the store with my credentials. Finally with this done i could download an app.

Cons: 1) NO formal introduction like every other OSX program from apple, explaining how to get it up and running. 2) no automated setup with your itunes account and others, everything has to be manually done. 3) in addition to number 2, when you try to install and app with out logging in it does not prompt you to put in you credentials like iOS app stores, instead it just freezes up.

and the BEST FOR LAST!
4) With the hype Apple made about the mac app store, where are the apps?????? Many apps is publishing are apps i could have already got off the apple website, such iLife? Aperture? iWork? I agree it is neat you can buy components but the big issue is there are almost no third party apps! The big ones i was hoping to see and have for Mac integration were iOS apps like Facebook CNN ESPN ! as well as many more. So far all I have seen are apps that were former regular download programs but offer nothing like iOS apps that are true full screen and very user friendly.

I know this is only day one so please dont go ragging on me for not giving it time. But lets be serious with as many iOS developers and apps available this Grand Finally should have been more promising. So apple round up the developers and get them to work!

I was holding out on iLife '11 so that I could buy iPhoto separately... but now Apple has to confuse me by giving a great deal on Aperture!!!

Exactly my problem.

Although iPhoto is so cheap that I think I'll grab it and if I want to upgrade to Aperture later it's only cost me a round of drinks.

Pretty excited about this. I have had my iMac for almost a year but didn't really go out of my way to find software for it. The App store is brilliant. Angry Birds, Twitter, and Evernote are great. Now if I can only get the money for rubiTracks. :D

i don't know if the terms have changed in the last hour or 2 but if you read down it says so we are limited to 5

APP STORE PRODUCT USAGE RULES

(iii) You shall be able to store App Store Products from up to five different Accounts at a time on compatible iOS-based devices.

(iv) You shall be able to store App Store Products on five iTunes-authorized devices at any time.

(v) You shall be able to manually sync App Store Products from at least one iTunes-authorized device to devices that have manual sync mode, provided that the App Store Product is associated with an Account on the primary iTunes-authorized device, where the primary iTunes-authorized device is the one that was first synced with the device or the one that you subsequently designate as primary using iTunes.

That's for the iOS App Store. Here's the new terms for the Mac App Store.

So I finally got my mobile me / existing apple id to work. Here is what I am finding.

SERVERS ARE GETTING HAMMERED!!!! My downloads are slow and taking forever.

Here is what I don't like so far. I am a stickler for backing up my stuff. Looks like my time machine backups just became even more important and my only source. Unlike ipad/iphone apps that put an ipa in your "user/music/itunes/mobile applications" folder, which you can burn to CD/DVD manually or backup using itunes backup (I do that once ever couple of months). Looks like there is no way to backup the package that is downloaded for your apps from the mac app store. I cannot find the download anywhere. If someone does find them, send me an email (this thread is getting a way to long to search through). These apps are expensive and I would like to have more than just my time machine backup (hard drives do still fail).

But if you lose your hard drive, can't you just re-download the app for free? If you purchased it before, future downloads are free.

What's fixed in 10.6.6?
from: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1343

About Mac OS X v10.6.6 Update
The Mac OS X 10.6.6 Update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Snow Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac. It also includes the Mac App Store, the best way to discover and buy new apps for your Mac. The Mac App Store, a new application you'll find in the Dock, includes the following features:

Discover Mac apps: Browse featured apps, top charts, and categories, or search for something specific. Read detailed app descriptions and user reviews, and flip through screen shots.
Buy and install: Easily purchase apps with your iTunes account. Apps install in one step and are quickly available from the Dock.
App updates: The Mac App Store keeps track of all your purchased apps and notifies you when free updates are available.

To learn more about the Mac App Store, visit: http://www.apple.com/mac/app-store.
For detailed information on this update, please visit this website: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4459.
For information on the security content of this update, please visit: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222.

That's the annoying part, very little would seem to be fixed (As Apple have given no defining details).
If you go to the security content link it tells you nothing about any actual security fixes either.
So basically "unless" you want the Mac app store which I don't need (yet) then there is no apparent need for this update.

Or am I missing something else?

No iWork 11 then? Gutted.

Not today, anyway. When they have something good to offer, that equals a "new version", it'll be out.

This was pretty obvious when they pushed out several new features/updates to iWork yesterday.

'My Friend' has a downloaded version of iLife *cough*

what will happen when 'He' installs the Mac App Store, will it show that it is already installed or will 'He' have to pay for it for the first time ever ?

I also believe that 'He' might have the same issue with 'iWork' and 'Aperture'

isn't 'He' a little scamp ?

That's for the iOS App Store, not the Mac App Store. Completely different stores, completely different Terms and Conditions.

Bejeweled 3 $19!! !!

When there are so many options and games to choose from, do you guys think high pricing like this are going to work for these guys? I see the $19 and click the back button and go searching for 4 or 5 other cheaper games I can pick up instead.

I want to get Bejeweled 3 but that price is keeping me from adding it to the cart. I would be downloading it now if it was $5.

Obviously, just like the iOS App Store, demand and download statistics will determine the price. It just opened TODAY. You don't think they're going to shoot high first and work their way down? Of course they are.

Think first, then post.

Yeah, I know it's in the Applications folder. I misspoke. It is putting a shortcut on the dock, which I don't appreciate.

I'm not that impressed with the App Store, mainly because there aren't very many apps at all.. I had higher expectations I guess.. hopefully we'll see more..

It's Opening Day man, give it some time.

What the heck, they are not going to allow me to download the app store for OSX 10.3 Panther? There are going to be alot of angry Panther users. ;)

So... is there any aggregated area yet that shows you exactly what you've bought over the years? Having to go through the app store emails is a right pain.

Be careful what you buy and pay for now:
e.g. the good guys:
http://www.pixelmator.com/transition/
To ease the transition to the Mac App Store for our users, we’ve come up with an exciting solution that we think everyone will love taking advantage of. We call it the Pixelmator transition to the Mac App Store and it means that:

You can download Pixelmator on the Mac App Store for just $29, for a limited time
By transitioning to the Mac App Store, you will get the totally awesome Pixelmator 2.0 for free once it is out on the Mac App Store, later this year. Yup, you’ve read that right.
Everyone can take advantage of the transition, even those who aren’t registered Pixelmator customers yet.

vs. the bad ones:
http://www.panic.com/blog/2011/01/panic-on-the-mac-app-store/
PS: If you’re a current customer, there’s no way to convert a previous purchase into a Mac App Store purchase — that requires a re-buy. But remember, what you have now will continue to work just fine.
UPDATE: The Mac App Store may show software bought from us previously as “Installed”, even though they’re two different licenses. You will not get Mac App Store auto-updates unless you purchase from the Mac App Store. To re-enable the “Purchase” button in the Mac App Store, just drag the app to the trash. Your preferences/sites will not be affected. We’re looking into it!

What a horrible, dishonest friend. Who needs enemies when you've got friends like that? :p

The App Store will recognize that it's installed, as there is no DRM on iWork, iLife or most other Apple software, it won't be able to tell the difference. Unfortunately, I don't think "he" will be able to get software updates through the Mac App Store unless "he" bought the App thru the Mac App Store.

Yep, that's why Adobe software is $2,000 to $3,000. People who are buying it are paying for all the torrent downloads.

And here I thought it was just because there's no competition...:p

High prices don't equate to higher gross income by "mitigating piracy". Apple putting their software prices down has nothing to do with anything other than driving Mac App Store success. The more popular the App Store is, the more people want Macs: Apple is a hardware company, and they'll sell more units of something that costs nothing to "make" (software) if the price is more attractive to a larger audience. The more people use their software, the greater the mindshare balloon...and so it goes and grows.

One other thing: Anyone who thinks the Mac App Store is going to become a solution for piracy is naive.

Pretty cool so far. Installed Angry Birds and Twitter 2.0 w/o a hitch (and they both run!) Doesn't detect my already-installed iWork however. This takes away from the seamlessness of the experience somewhat, but it's bearable. :D

So Leopard 10.5 users aren't invited to this party either...unless we pay to upgrade to SL. Hurrumph!

On the other hand, I might now convince my boss that we can save development time by supporting 10.6 only and ignoring all the cheapskates. GCD, here we come!

Bejeweled 3 for $19.99 ??? Not sure if I am spoiled by the iPhone/iPad prices but that seems to be way too much and from the screenshots it looks like just a blown up version of Bejeweled from the iPhone.

I have Bejeweled 3 and it's a great game. The iPhone version doesn't compare. You can download a demo from popcap.com

Don't get me wrong i think MAS is great an all but one thing i'm not liking is having to re-purchase games i've already purchased for iOS eg. Angry Birds. Basicly i've already purchased this game on my iPhone and now i have to purchase it again to play it on my MPB meaning both Apple and Rovio have received two lots of payment for the same game (no extra content etc.) under the same account. Doesn't seem right :(

The grand daddy of digital distribution Steam allows me to purchase a game once on my PC then install it to My MBP and or any other computer I want to run it on because the game is tied to my account and not device.

Surely you should only have to buy a game once under your account.
