Checking out what I want to dl. So many fun toys! :D
I love apps store, especially for my ipad too. So I'm still figuring out what I want on my iPad and on my MB.

Really happy with the new Mac app store so far. Bought Pages, Keynote, Numbers, and Aperture. Installed the new free Twitter app as well.

I deleted my installed copies of StuffIt Expander and Carbon Copy Cloner and reinstalled off the app store (thinking this will be better as far as alerting me to future updates).

So far, so good.

Why would you buy iWork when new version is coming? Will the update be free for iWork 11? (I doubt it)

I've got a feeling it's different for downloads. iTunes can charge VAT at 15% as it's based in Luxembourg. If Apple have the UK Mac Store based in the Channel Islands it's possible they can get away without adding VAT at all.

(That's me speculating. I don't know where the Mac Store is based.)

It shouldn't be. By buying it from abroad, you are essentially "importing it", so VAT would be applied at 20%. I believe other taxes are less in the Channel Islands, rather than VAT.

Panther? I'm running Mac OS 1 os a Mac 128K! Where's the App Store for me?

Now thats what I'm talking about! Apple needs to quit being such a bunch of cheapskates and get the app store running on as many Macs as possible. Its just pure laziness. What about my Apple IIc?

would be nice to launch something that work apple !
mac store being crashing all the time , everytime i try to download something crashes.. sux

More stable and responsive. Naming Faces is easier, more editing options, minimal stupid bugs, no beachballs, smooth scrolling on first run through of photos and events (doesn't need to build thumbnail cache or does it much better than iPhoto), much more reliable and stable importing of photos - just so much better

The thing I hated about Aperture 3 was when I imported my photos from iPhoto. My events in iPhoto had generic names like "Christmas Day" or "Florida Vacation". Sometimes I'd have multiple events named like that over the course of the years. Aperture 3 did not like that, so I had to rename numerous photo events. It also seemed much slower than iPhoto '09...but now I have iPhoto '11 and it seems slower than '09...

I am having trouble downloading from the store. It tells me that there is an error and to try again later

Does this require authorizing computers?

With retail copies you can give the "old" software away when you purchase the new version, but if you have to register the computer, like you do with iTunes, then this will prevent you from being able to donate old software.

My step-mom got a Mac for the first time the other day and it was hell trying to teach her how to install something. That's like the only complicated thing to do on a Mac. Now it is beyond simple. :D

I like the Mac App Store as well. It just makes everything easier.

Well it picked up on the fact that I had Coda already installed, but other apps like Stuffit Expander did not show up as installed.
I've heard you have to have the lastest updates for it to recognize it. But yeah, none of my previously installed apps are showing up. Even if I have to delete all my free apps and re-download through the app store that's a huge annoyance not to mention having to repurchase all paid for apps. That's not going to happen.

I wish they'd take the time to overhaul the interface. Icon's and names don't tell you much, be nice if they had a fly over description.
I wish they would've as well. Having used Netflix's website, I can say that's definitely the way to go. Massively speeds up browsing.

About Mac OS X v10.6.6 Update
The Mac OS X 10.6.6 Update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Snow Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac. It also includes the Mac App Store, the best way to discover and buy new apps for your Mac. The Mac App Store, a new application you'll find in the Dock, includes the following features:

Discover Mac apps: Browse featured apps, top charts, and categories, or search for something specific. Read detailed app descriptions and user reviews, and flip through screen shots.
Buy and install: Easily purchase apps with your iTunes account. Apps install in one step and are quickly available from the Dock.
App updates: The Mac App Store keeps track of all your purchased apps and notifies you when free updates are available.

To learn more about the Mac App Store, visit: http://www.apple.com/mac/app-store.

Additional improvements

For information about the security content of this update, please visit: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222.
Includes all the improvements in the previous 10.6.1, 10.6.2, 10.6.3, 10.6.4 and 10.6.5 updates.
Addresses a cropping issue with some postscript printing in landscape page orientation.
Resolves an issue with some Macs (that have in ATI graphics card) in which the mouse pointer movement could become erratic if an external DVI display is connected.

I am having trouble downloading from the store. It tells me that there is an error and to try again later

Same here. I've been trying to install Evernote for the past fifteen minutes, but it doesn't seem to want to do it. Might be the servers are a bit overloaded. I'll try again in another hour or so.

Obviously, just like the iOS App Store, demand and download statistics will determine the price. It just opened TODAY. You don't think they're going to shoot high first and work their way down? Of course they are.

Think first, then post.

"Think first, then post"

Shouldn't you be kicking your dog or something? You're in the wrong place if your mind can't handle the opinions of others. Back in your cage! :D

It's opening day and everyone is here shopping. All the more reason to have deals on your wares.

It appears they are doing good though. They went from 33rd to 4th on the top paid.

iTunes definitely uses Luxembourg's 15% though, since with downloads within the EU it's the EU state where the service is based whose VAT rate gets applied. For the same reason prior to today if you bought downloads via the UK Apple Store you had to pay Irish VAT rates (currently 21%).

The Channel Islands are of course not in the EU.

If you have at least 4GB of RAM, Aperture will run great. It doesn't run well on 2GB of less of RAM. I speak from experience; Aperture was near-useless when I used it with 2GB of RAM.

Thank you both. I have a core duo mini with 1 GB and use Lightroom with no problems (a wee slow, but nothing unbearable). I was hoping to dump Lightroom 2 and iphoto '08 (each serve a purpose for me now) in favor of just using Aperture. I guess I should hold off on that.

It's the principle.
There's NOTHING fundamentally preventing access to an app store for 10.5, just they draw the line there.
As usual, you get a shiny new toy, a couple of years later it's not shiny anymore unless to open your wallet again and again.
Hope many other 10.5 users complain...

Well except all those under the hood changes. Look Snow Leopard and Leopard might look alike but there are many changes behind the scenes in Snow Leopard. That's the reason why it was so cheap to buy and the fact that Apple wanted everyone to update to the new version. Snow Leopard was just a step on the way to Lion, which will be out later this year. If you really want the App Store then update to Snow Leopard, if not you might as well wait for Lion now as you left it so late.

I feel sorry for you PowerPC users, but Leopard is still a good OS and you can still find apps on the web anyway.

That's for the iOS App Store, not the Mac App Store. Completely different stores, completely different Terms and Conditions.

Actually, I can see the confusion...

If you go to the bottom of the Mac App Store application and click on the link to the terms and conditions...it takes you to the iTunes store T's & C's.

I got like $200 worth of iTunes gift certificates for Christmas and I had yet to figure out what to spend it on, except for a couple movie rentals. Now I can buy software with those gift cards! How freaking cool is that!? I'm excited. Looking forward to downloading Garageband 11, iMovie 11 and Aperture when I get home today! And it's also my birthday today! What a great birthday present! I like that the app store is tied to your iTunes account. It just makes iTunes cards more useful to me now...

Are you sure about this? Amazon UK always applies Danish VAT when I shop there. Does this apply only to downloads, because I think they're supposed to use the VAT of the point of delivery.

Don't get me wrong i think MAS is great an all but one thing i'm not liking is having to re-purchase games i've already purchased for iOS eg. Angry Birds. Basicly i've already purchased this game on my iPhone and now i have to purchase it again to play it on my MPB meaning both Apple and Rovio have received two lots of payment for the same game (no extra content etc.) under the same account. Doesn't seem right :(

The grand daddy of digital distribution Steam allows me to purchase a game once on my PC then install it to My MBP and or any other computer I want to run it on because the game is tied to my account and not device.

Surely you should only have to buy a game once under your account.

So lets say you buy some game title from a big company for the Wii - do you expect to get the same title for xbox, DS, ps2, ... etc also for free?

If it is a different platform, you have to pay again.

So you're comparing consoles from competing companies, to a digital download on devices all from the same company? That comparison makes no sense whatsoever.

If you compare it to Steam, which is much more similar to the Mac App Store than videogame consoles, then yes, if I buy a title from a big company for my Mac - I do expect to get the same title for my PC for free, and you know what? I DO!

Uninstall does not seems to work. I trashed the app and it asked for Administrator password. After I provided everything is in Trash and I make sure I clear it. But even after I done that the App Store still show it is installed, which basically mean I cannot reinstall it.

- Question: Why it ask for Administrator password? I think App Store installed the app a little bit different and there should be some other way to uninstall the app.

I've used AppCleaner to uninstall some of my App Store apps and they now have an Install button in the App Store Purchases tab. I haven't tried just dragging them into the Trash yet, but then I always use an uninstaller as I like to keep my Mac as clean as possible.

I don't know why they haven't added an uninstaller, especially as they could track what has been installed and where. Maybe this will come with Lion?

Wondering if anyone can help me.

I have a C2D imac and when I run software update it doesnt say that I have anything available. I am running 10.5.8 right now. Shouldnt I be able to upgrade to 10.6 and have the mac app store??

You need to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6x.
