This makes me think we are not going to see widespread TRIM support til Lion.
I'd say so given that such a feature that is critical (and what I mean by that is, if you get it wrong it can cause all sorts of problems like data loss) is hardly something that'll be added during mid-cycle. I am also sure that when Apple does integrate it they want to make sure it is fully integrated into the system rather than just hanging off the side like some sort of appendix.
this still does not fix the issues on the new MacBook Pro 2011 models (15" 2.3ghz) - just tested on the two machines we have here. Still they are getting too hot, constantly the fans are blowing (testing with Transmission/Bittorrent downloading the Ubuntu DVD). Also we had two freezes already (only under heavy load). I am posting updates on our findings to our blog (
http://j.mp/dLSqgy ) - and we are still waiting for replacements from apple.
It sounds like a problem at the factory rather than a design or software fault if that is the case given there are people here with the same configuration without the said issue whilst there are others who are still experiencing it; I wonder if someone collated all the serial numbers together and narrowed it down to whether it is isolated to a single factory.
still downloading, 75 minutes later... 😱 wtf? i'm in NYC and have relatively un-sucky (for most of the time) cable innernette... what gives, Akamai?
Meh, I got it pretty fast - and I'm on the other side of the globe, around 1.6MB/s.
Had it on for about 40 or 50 minutes. No new issues. Actually seems faster throughout the OS. 64-bit Safari issue with Flash and Youtube still not fixed.
Have you upgraded Flash to 10.2.153.1 yet?
Granted my 2.1 macbook has the intel 950 video but I've been getting this bit of laggy finder performance like whenever I select an item and send to trash its not instantaneous like it used to be for example.
Maybe this'll fix that.
I've noticed that also on my iMac and MacBook Pro which leaves me wondering whether it is something related to the Finder more than anything else - then again, both times it was attempted under a heavy load so I wonder whether Finder needs to be more heavily threaded.
Video drivers for the Intel 3000 were definitely updated in the 2011 version:
Before 10.6.7
AppleIntelHDGraphicsVADriver 1.6.30.19 ()
AppleIntelHDGraphicsGLDriver 1.6.30.19
After 10.6.7
AppleIntelHDGraphicsVADriver 1.6.32.12 ()
AppleIntelHDGraphicsGLDriver 1.6.32.12
Should be interesting to see the benchmarks before and after now.
I'd hesitate expecting big changes given that in Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview all the drivers have had massive version number jumps such as Nvidia move from 1.6.x to 7.0.52. What we're seeing today is merely kicking the can down the road till Lion arrives which is where all the driver effort is being directed.
That all oaky but when is Lion coming out?
In the summer - I assume you're trying to be funny or something because the question has been answered multiple times.
My God! I just got back from the Apple Insider forum on this issue. What a turd hole it is over there.
Of course but Macrumors is getting just as bad; just take a look at the above question by nec207 and the one below by dirtypancakes as an example of the quality lowering like lead balloon.
This update notably slows down the 2010 macbook air 13 and makes Steam games unplayable. This has been an issues since the 10.6.7 seeds and is the worst update ever. Yeah ever.
But for real, its ****ed.
It has slowed down because there were kernel panics occurring because of over heating - Apple decided to be more aggressive when it comes to frequency scaling and when the fans kick in. Oh how horrible, you're going to have a stable Mac!
Btw, why the heck are you expecting good performance on a device not designed to run games? dear god, I might as well whine that my Atom based netbook doesn't allow me to run Crysis with high settings enabled!
