Quick and smooth update, no problems on my M1 Mini. Running Time Machine backup at the moment. About 60GB added.

I am stuck at this:

I have a couple of questions to those who updated to 11.1: Does this update prevent you from executing the .ipa files from the iOS/iPadOS App Store? you know, those not available on the Mac App Store.

And second, is there a way to perform a clean install on an M1 Mac without bricking it, now that we¡re on 11.1?

Thank you.

Does anyone know if the problem of connecting an external display and not having any windows show up until you change the resolution is resolved?

Don't download it. It bricked my monitor. Cannot display in full resolution (4k) now.

Running MBP 16 2019 with LG 700un-b 43" on USB-C

Similar issue - MBP 16 2019 connected via USB-C to external BenQ EX2780Q - started up after installing in full resolution, but in HDR mode and 58-ish refresh rate. Reboot. Can't get it into full resolution. Rebooted again managed to manually select the full resolution and at 144Hz.

It's never very simple with Apple these days.

Update went smooth for me.
updated:
2020 MacBook Pro i9 16"
2019 i9 27" Imac
12.9 iPad Pro latest Generation
12.9 iPad Pro 1st Generation

Curious as well. Thanks

My suggestion to those with issues, do some prep work before installing an update, make sure your disc is in good order, run First Aid, make sure its healthy, more than likely it is , but checking never hurts.. Reboot before installing. If you have startup items, disable them..

And most important, if you don't backup, when are you going to learn that nothing is fool proof, if you lose data and you don't have a backup, whose fault is that? Considering how cheap external USB drives are and either run Time Machine or get Carbon Copy Cloner for a few bucks can save a world of pain if something goes wrong during an update.

I agree that this update is causing problems and I'd advise people to be cautious.

Although it eventually worked on my iMac late-2015, Messages would not open and I had to restart my machine and it appears to be OK at last.

However, on my MacBook Air (2020 Intel), the download was slow and kept failing, and then I restarted the machine.

Then it finally downloaded but got stuck on post-download processing for about 40 minutes. "15 minutes remaining..." it said, with no progress bar, for more than half an hour. Then it got stuck for ages on "5 minutes remaining...".

I've aborted this on my MacBook Air for now and will wait at least a few days before trying again.

As a long-time Apple user, these Big Sur updates have been among the least reliable I can remember.

After the update there were some setup screens and I had to log into my Apple ID account. I think I never had to do this ever after installing an update. And after the update was done there was some "Mac optimizing" message that came up (also something I can't recall from the past).

(I don't mean this mac optimizing thing with the bar graph that showed up in the past at the end of the setup process but instead a message came up in the notification center saying that some optimization is going on).

Every time I try to update my 2019 15" top spec MBP it crashes after 20 minutes of "preparing for update". It downloads the update every time, going on 4 times now.
Coming from 11.0.1, never had a single issue with this Mac.

WTF!
What are the crash symptoms? An error message? A blank screen.

I should warn you that the update restarts the computer several times and - sometimes - between activity the screen goes completely black for a good minute or so before it picks up again. You could be forgiven for thinking that the computer was dead.

In my opinion - and I've mentioned this before - that kind of behaviour is a UX fail on Apple's part. The user should never be left wondering.

Anyone else still having Thunderbolt issues? Still not seeing my capture card after the update.

worked fine for base model m1 mba, finished in under 20 mins.

though time machine is adding another 10 gigs or so to the backup...what's with that? (first time in 14 years owning a mac).

my only complaint now is my color coding emails on Mail isn't applying it evenly before/after update.

Time Machine is backing up everything, the update expanded and replaced many files of the OS, which are now being backed up

Have anyone tried upgrading on 2013/2014 13" MacBook Pros? Did it install properly? I have been refusing to upgrade my older MacBook Pro to Big Sur since the bricking problem came out, I hope they have patched it now.

Curious to see whether this update fixes the bug where the menu bar icons from 3rd party apps always get scrambled when rebooting.

They must have improved Rosetta, because Firefox works now, even with Extensions.

Although the native M1 version will likely be released tomorrow, lol
CodeWeavers said 11.1 has some major Rosetta fixes that helped CrossOver run better, I wish there were more notes somewhere.
