I see what you mean. "Songs" does have columns, but no column browser. One nifty thing I noticed tho was the option for a "filter field" search bar. You have to type in your parameter but it does make the job of browsing a large library a good easier.

Hmmm...thanks, I may try that. Still a lot clunkier than the column browser. Unfortunately, we're stuck with Apple's relentless push to kill local content.

Well started the macOS update on my 2017 Macbook Pro, at this point the update has been running fo 3+ hours has restarted several times and has about 1/4” to go for the last hour With no mention of time left. Also no window with incompatible apps hen installing

A friend of mine is in the same boat with his 2018.

It's broader than this - the remote app can't control TVOS 13 devices either. And even old iTunes can't airplay to an older airplay 1 device and a new TVOS 13 device at the same time.

Losing the column browser in Music and TV is a major regression. It's no longer possible to look at all my jazz, pick an artist, and play all their albums. Ditto in TV - can't browse for 'Sci-Fi', then pick a show, a season, and then an episode. Instead you have to scroll through thousands of items to find the one you want (and if you sort by genre in the list, the items are in some random order). Genre doesn't help because it munges cloud and local content together (and there's no list view at all). Downloaded doesn't help because that merges TV and Movies together.

Apple really must hate local content, and really really hate large libraries.

But then why would they continue to sell high-storage iPads? Makes no sense to me.

Welp, you're one step ahead of me. Music app runs like a dog on my 2012 Mini, and now won't launch at all. Jesus h, Apple, get your sh*t together.

Anyone end up with a “Relocated Items” folder on their desktop? The contents are something that looks very “system”. Not sure why this happened.

macOS always runs slowly after an update, because Spotlight has to go through and re-index everything -- an 8GB update in this case, and if they've changed all of the directories where everything is kept it will have to deal with that too. It used to take up to a day back in the olden days.

or try this link and click upgrade

I don't see Pages or Numbers listed under the included apps section. Have they been removed?

And its the same with iOS 13. I don't know wtf is going on with apple right now. People didn't usually have to say "I'll wait to update"

this is happening not just with Apple, but Microsoft as well. We need to get back to a new OS every 3-5 years.

I know it’s probably been beaten to death, but local iTunes backups for devices?
Sorry don’t feel like reading today.
That functionality was moved over to finder. That’s where you can now find the backup and restore capabilities previously found in iTunes.

Pages and Numbers are not part of MacOS, they are separate Apps. You get them free when you buy a new Mac which is why you might think they are part of the OS, but they aren't. You can download them on the Mac App Store if needed.

That’s entirely Apple’s fault. Nobody ever worried about releasing new software every year until Apple started doing that. And Apple did it because they decided that the mobile device industry had to behave like the car industry, with new models every year. And new models mean new software. I hope they do get the message and switch to at least 2 years between updates.

Where the hell have all my audiobook MP3s gone? They've disappeared!?!!?!?!?
they should be in the Books app. That change was made in iOS long ago, no surprise if the same is now being done on macOS.

The Catalina installer lets you know. But you can also generate a system report from “About this Mac”. The software section lists whether apps are 32-bit or 64-bit.
It didn’t tell me... when does it do that?

Yep. Looking through it now. Thanks for pointing that out.

From the PDF in the folder:

During the last macOS upgrade or file migration, some of your files couldn’t be moved to their new locations. This folder contains these files.
Files needing new locations
Some of your files had been in a location that is now incompatible with macOS security settings. These files were moved to the Security folder for your review.
If there are any files you want to keep, you can move them to a new location, as long as it is different from their location before the upgrade or migration.
Configuration files
These configuration files were modified or customized by you, by another user, or by an app. The modifications are incompatible with the recent macOS upgrade. The modified files are in the Configuration folder, organized in subfolders named for their original locations.
To restore any of the custom configurations, compare your modifications with the configuration changes made during the macOS upgrade and combine them when possible.

But but iTunes is bloated. We need simple toy like apps that you get in iPad. Yay. We got them. Why aren’t you happy? That iTunes was too hard to use? It gave me headache. It’s like iPad now! Yay.
