So the Remote app on iOS no longer works with Catalina because, well, iTunes is gone. Is there another app I can use? Or I can I no longer control music Air Play-ing from my Mac to remote speakers? If so, should I be outraged and send Tweets?
Have you tried the new Music app ??

I’ve noticed 2 faults/bugs already:

just found another: play some music or something, then go to System Preferences > General > and select Auto for appearance. You’ll hear the music stutter.

Also, when I tried to view my desktop by using the gesture, my Mac froze for about 30 or so seconds.

So how does this OS handle iPhone back ups if there's no iTunes? I just want to know if its a problem or not before i upgrade.

I don't think much of the new Music app. I can't see any of my artwork, and I used to have the songs view where I added columns such as play count, date last played, etc, which seems to be removed now as far as I can tell.

The Music app for me seems to be redownloading all artwork. Leave it running for a while.

Weird, Papers 3 still works... I hadn't thought that was a 32-bit app. Are folks sure 32 bit apps won't work?

Yes. That won't work. When you launch the Remote app on iOS, my music library is no longer a selectable library because Remote is looking for an iTunes library, not a library associated with the new Music app. If I use the "Add an iTunes Library" link in the Remote app's settings, it displays a confirmation code and then directs user to iTunes ("...open iTunes on your Mac or PC and click the Remote button..."). iTunes is gone. Ergo, Remote will not work.

So....I can no longer remotely control Air Play music playback on my local network. Thanks, Apple. Thanks, Obama.

OK - then try to enable Home Sharing under the Sharing setting:

I have a fast internet connection but it’s stalling. It took about an hour to download the first time then it threw up an error saying it couldn’t verify. Started the downloading the update all over again and crawling at a snails pace.

Your internet connection speed is only one factor. There are many "hops" along the way, starting with the source ... Apple's data centres. If 1 million people are trying to download, that source is going to be slower.

How to determine which apps do not work with Catalina

Well this is fun. FOURTH time trying to install this thing. The last 3 have all gone through the process and ended up back on Mojave.... right where I started.
2018 MacBook Pro.

Can someone please confirm: after updating do downloaded movies/tv shows remain in tact?

I have TBs of data and I simply cannot lose these and redownload. It would take months.

OK, that got me closer! Media sharing was turned off. Now I can access my music Library via the Remote app, but the currently playing song doesn't display on my iPhone via Remote app. Just see the generic "Not Playing" playback UI.

2018 MBP here too. Can’t even get more than 7 GB on the download. Keeps failing.

Maybe you need to wait for an update of the Remote app - it also still write "iTunes" inside the app, which need to be changed too.

I have mine on a NAS. Should be safe....nothing to do with OS unless in 10.15's Finder locations is not there.
Do you mean will VLC work?

If I understand correctly, I think you can select the View menu (at top of screen), then select "as Songs." It looks like I need to do this on all of my playlists again.

Otherwise you can from inside the Music app on your iDevice select "Home Sharing", and then control your media.
