What's good with eGPUs? I thought they added support a while ago but never heard much. Is it the exact same as having an internal GPU?
Yea, this is my question also. What’s the big deal? ...I mean, it’s probably a big deal, so, just want to know more.

High Sietra sucks man,so many un-solved issues and it visibly slowed down my 12" Macbook.
Worst version of Mac OS ever.
I re-installed El Capitan which is the version my Mac was originally shipped with.
Much snappier now.
Everyone should consider remaining on the original version of the Mac OS their system wasshippedwith, specially 12" MacBook owners with m CPU.
I don't trust Apple or anyone else saying performance won't be slowed down at all.
Seeing (feeling) is believing.

Haha I'm not going to install Snow Leopard on my 2011 MBP. High Sierra runs great on this thing.

Update is giving my early-2011 MBP a good hour-long workout. Heard the firmware update tones during the first few rounds of reboots too.

The system will create a snapshot before doing the OS install in case something goes wrong. In your case it did, so it probably rolled back to the snapshot it took so you can try again.

If you're nervous about it I suggest downloading the combo updater and using that.

Good luck. :)

Thanks ;)

The MacBook started again and booted the recovery and automatically reinstalled the OS

The Mac Mini 2014 worked perfectly fine...

It means you can run a full sized desktop graphics card and plug your monitors or VR into that for much better performance than you'd get out of even the fastest dGPU in a laptop.

Mine took about 20 minutes. Do you still have a spinner drive in there?

Apple today released macOS High Sierra 10.13.4, the fourth major update to the macOS High Sierra operating system available on Apple's Macs. macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 comes more than two months after the release of macOS High Sierra 10.13.3, which brought fixes for the Spectre vulnerability.

macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 can be downloaded directly from the Mac App Store or through the Software Update function in the Mac App Store on all compatible Macs that are already running macOS High Sierra.

macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 introduces bug fixes and performance improvements for issues that have been discovered since the release of macOS High Sierra 10.13.3. The update brings support for Business Chat, which will allow you to interface with businesses like Wells Fargo and Lowe's right in the Messages app, and it includes official support for external graphics processors (eGPUs).

There are also several other small bug fixes and tweaks, as listed in the release notes:The update also introduces the smoke cloud wallpaper that was previously only available on the iMac Pro and it introduces a warning when opening up a 32-bit app as part of an effort to phase them out.

In the future, Apple plans to phase out 32-bit Mac apps, just like it did with 32-bit iOS apps. Apple says macOS High Sierra is the last version of macOS that will support 32-bit apps "without compromises."

Wait--this is the first release to support eGPU's? I thought High Sierra supported it from the beginning. Whoops!

I have a DIY fusion drive setup with the OG 750GB HDD + 128GB SSD.

Hmm. Interesting. Thanks!

egpu.io folks are very carefully going over this release. Nvidia? Thunderbolt 1/2 compatibility? Memory fix for 2016 MBP eGPU in Bootcamp? So many questions.

10.13.4 breaks eGPU on my Thunderbolt 2 MacBook Air. My Akitio node worked fine in 10.13.3, although I had to logout and log back in to use it when plugged in. Now the eGPU icon appears, but doesn’t show an eGPU, then disappears.

eGPU allows you to use more powerful GPUs than the bargain basement ones Apple supply with their laptops.

Will be great for VR and other intensive GPU uses.

I thought there already was eGPU support on MacOS? What does this mean exactly?
It wasn't released until now. It was still being tested. I believe this is the actual release. It stated on their website under High Sierra that eGPU Support *Spring 2018.

Safari is much snappier! All jokes aside...

Good lord that seemed like a very glitchy update... I have a '16 MPB with an eGPU connected... I thought for sure I was gonna spend the evening reinstalling everything... I just let it run and run and run... It finally booted up normally. Very scary.

eGPU supported much just mean that my eGPU shows up normally now... RX 580 vs the XXX it was showing before.

I'll run some tests, but I doubt anything will be faster.

Biggest complaint still... I cannot get my keyboard and mouse to SLEEP, even if I shut my external monitor off and select SLEEP. The keyboard and mouse will go black, but then turn back on... This is a never ending cycle.

PS - Just noticed I now have a silly little icon in the upper right... Says Disconnect "AMD Radeon RX 580".

Anyone know if there’s a way to revert the Safari auto fill change? What used to be automatic now requires manual intervention. Big step backwards imo

It's a whole one more click when you log into sites. Big deal? Also if you have multiple accounts on a site it's nice to be able to choose which one rather than have one filled in and have to clear the field to choose the other one.

No problem with installing this update on my 2017 iMac.
Yes the update was problem free installing.

Issue started as soon as I started trying to backup my iPhone X to the new iTunes 17.7.4.76 that updated first before the new High Sierra update that my iTunes started hanging. I then had to force quit it twice. Reported the issues, when asked because of force quit, then when restarting again got some thing about reloading library.xml something (longer name) then after a bit it said my library was corrupt? what the heck?

After a bit it is now in mode of gathering info about my iCloud music library and making it available. My iPhone, iPad and another Mac are ok but this is main Mac and now all my playlists and albums of downloaded Apple Music are missing while it makes the library available again. What the heck is going on?

And to add more detail to this, before iTunes started locking (while I was trying to backup my iPhone X via WIFI) all the Apple Music albums and playlists were populated. They were even playing on my homepod which was also updated to 11.3. It was only after this problem trying to back up my iPhone wirelessly that got iTunes in a fit and gave me the dreaded spinning beachball leading to failure to respond and I got tired of it twice and did that force quit.

Final note now after half hour and researching this and writing this post the info about my Apple Music Library is 80 percent "gathered" so I assume/hope my apple music downloads will reappear on my Mac? And the answer is yes but dang 45 minutes of my iCloud Apple Music library on my Mac vanishing -- at least it was fine on my iOS devices. I have not tried to backup my iPhone X yet letting the final work Finnish -- now uploading to iCloud music library, but my Apple Music playlists and albums I downloaded are all magically back hmmmm

Updated now, but weirdly after I updated the option to update to iTunes 12.7.4 disappeared from my Mac Store app. o_O Been trying to refresh it to bring it back but no dice, maybe I'll have to reboot.

So far this seems to be a clean update otherwise, which is saying a lot considering I have been bitching nonstop about High Sierra being the ********* **** of an OS that ever **** my screen with its utter shatness.
