Wow. Literally down to the last possible business day to deliver iOS 11 before the launch of iOS 12.

Had they slipped one more day, the only story next week would have been Apple didn’t deliver in the last set of promised features.

And let’s not forget, last year it was a “not a lot of features, snow leopard” type keynote. Plus 10 minutes of Animojis.

Let’s hope 2018 and iOS 11, and heck, Siri and the laptop line, et al. we’re all great learning lessons for Apple to never repeat again.

There's probably an app for that.

It would have to be built into the filesystem to work properly.
[doublepost=1527890031][/doublepost]Here's something weird... even though the option to enable isn't in my preferences like they say or iCloud I managed to find something about it in their new reduce clutter dialogs...

Not sure if this is what you mean, but on the Mac the setting for cloud messages is in the Messages app > Preferences > Accounts.

Strange, I also have a 2012 MBA running the first 10.13.6 beta and I see iCloud Messages on it, in other words it can't be a hardware restriction. Restarting the laptop didn't help either, I guess.

Same problem. Thanks for posting the photos.

Thanks. I did that, but I am fully upgraded. In the scheme of things, not that important, but... LOL!

That's an odd one. Only think I can think off is to sign out iCloud centrally and sign back in, maybe with a reboot in the middle for good measure. The signing out and in dance has historically "fixed" a lot of iCloud oddness.

I’m not seeing it on my iPad or iPhone. Don’t see it under Settings >> Messages nor under Settings >> Accounts & Passwords >> iCloud. Both devices updated to 11.4. I also updated my Mac and was able to find the Messages in the Cloud just fine.

Settings > Apple ID at very top, left > iCloud > under "apps using iCloud" you'll see a toggle for Messages.

For El Capitan you might be better off updating to Security Update 2018-003 via the mac app store instead of the dmg file because curiously the dmg updates to build 15G21012 whereas the mac app store gives you a slightly higher build 15G21013.

I discovered this after installing it via the dmg, yet the update still appeared in the mac app store - because it detected that the dmg version was a lower build.

Roger that, sir!

Thanks for the suggestion. Signed out of iCloud and restarted. Signed back in and now have Messages on my Mac in iCloud. I have to confess I was a little nervous about turning off iCloud given the message I received before signing off. Everything seems okay! Have a great weekend!

Fantastic. Enjoy!

Point went right over your big ol head! What do you think the point is when it was announced a year ago and just now coming out? Think about it... Try to use that big ol brain of yours.
Messages in iCloud made an appearance in early betas of ios11 but was removed from beta 5 early last August. Apple said it would be back in a future update to iOS 11. Purposely vague, no doubt because they knew it would take time to be ready to release it for upwards of a billion customers.

Wanting it to be released in 11.0, 11.1, 11.2 or 11.3 is fine, but ten months ago Apple said only that it would be available in a future release of iOS 11. Really no reason to have expected it any earlier than its 11.4 debut.

Before I update, can anyone who has updated confirm that messages in icloud is turned off by default?
No desire or intention of using it.

iOS 12 will likely not launch until September, Monday is about developers and pre-releases.

confirmed: it is not turned on by default.

additionally:
confirming that the mac messages app with Messages in iCloud turned on both downloads messages to your mac messages app that were in the cloud before the update that were not on yr mac, and, as well, it also uploads any messages that were on your mac messages app that were not in the cloud as well.
