To those who cannot see the 12.1 update, this helped me on my M1 Mac mini and M1X MacBook Pro, both could not see the update...

1.) Open System Preferences > Software Update. Confirm that no update is available, and leave the window open.
2.) Open Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.
3.) Go to View > All Processes
4.) Search for 'com.apple.MobileSoftwareUpdate.UpdateBrainService' . Select it and click Force Quit.
5.) The 12.1 Update should appear in System Preferences. Click Update Now.
6.) The update may not download - force quit the com.apple.MobileSoftwareUpdate.UpdateBrainService again using Activity Monitor to start the download.

I don't know how or why this fixes it...
Still not working for me. I don't have the exact process name; mine shows as 'com.apple.NRD.UpdateBrainService.' After Force Quitting, the update does not show up. When I close and reopen System Preferences, the process comes back to life.

I also do not have com.apple.MobileSoftwareUpdate.UpdateBrainService but I did have com.apple.NRD.UpdateBrainService which I killed but this didn't fix it. I then killed a process NRDUpdated and 12.1 immediately showed up.

Same here.

1) Quit both processes and 12.1 showed up.
2) Tried downloading but both processes started back up and the download progress stopped
3) Quit both processes again, the download finished, and then the 'com.apple.MobileSoftwareUpdate.UpdateBrainService' process started back up and the install stopped.

I'm giving up, as I've had enough issues with Monterey. Last thing I want to be doing is manually quitting processes just to hope the install works.

Odd, once I killed NRDUpdated and then com.apple.MobileSoftwareUpdate.UpdateBrainService I was able to download and update to 12.1 successfully. Best of luck!

Significantly reduced battery life after the update on my MacBook Pro 14” (10/16). Today under the same usual load it lasted about 2 hours less. I hope it’s an indexing issue of sorts.
I think it might have affected my battery as well. But I guess ill need to wait a few more days to see how it goes

Updated to 12.1 on my 2013 Mac Pro and the App Store now takes forever to load (the app will load with a blank screen for a minute or two before showing any content).

On my Late 2015 iMac I can't get the thing to install. I've tried twice, it just crashes.

So I'm reinstalling Monterey OS. I hope this fixes it. Plan B, wipe it and start again. It is really only a back-up computer. Note this same computer does have issues with the motherboard, but for $700 fix it is not worth it. Sorry Mr. iMac. I'll hang in there with you!

Can confirm killing `com.apple.MobileSoftwareUpdate.UpdateBrainService` fixed the issue with the system not seeing 12.1 and it appears to be downloading now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

cmd + tap to click on safari for new tab is not fixed, it gets even worst. I have to tap exactly 3 times trackpad to open new tab in safari. on 12.0.1 i have to tap it 2-3 times, now exactly 3 times.

So it is more reliable now.
no, LESS reliable, 2-3 times averages 2.5. 3 exact times ir MORE UNreliable

and YEAH .. I came here to comment on this, CMD + TAP is NOT FIXED. Is there any way to tag MacRumors attention for them to help us Apple notice this? Im afraid they think they already fixed everything regarding tap to click

This is discouraging. This is such a frustrating and perplexing bug.

Heck I can’t even get software update to show 12.1 yet, that’s how buggy Monterrey is.

I don't know if this is completely just bad luck, but my safari and FaceTime haven't been working as intended after the update.
I can't resize my FaceTime window, and pages load oddly. But I do use an adblocker (wipr) so I don't know if that will contribute to the issues.

After using 12.1 for some time now =>

  1. Safari is a big mess.
    1. Moving bookmarks has an animation glitch, that repeats itself.
    2. Moving folders into folders is impossible on the homepage.
    3. Sometimes just freezes and stops responding.
  2. The macOS responsiveness? I want to cry.
    1. Opening apps takes forever sometimes. (any)
    2. Resizing windows animation and speed is disgusting.
    3. Clicks are not registered sometimes, and on a third click it double clicks.
    4. Battery draining faster, didn't find an apparent reason.
C'mon Apple, WHAT IS THIS?
The first time i bought a Macbook Pro. That's what i get?

I’m not having any of these issues.

Try to replicate the Safari ones, you'll see...
I have, and I’ve had no glitching or freezing. I actually sorted a number of bookmarks and had no problem at all.

I have seen some apps take a little while to launch initially, but not adding more than 5 seconds or so, and I’m pretty sure that’s just because of Rosetta 2 needing to run after the 12.1 update. Apps seem to open normally after they’re first opened. At least in my case.

I'm not having that graphical issue on my end, but I see what you mean. I tend to go to the 'Bookmarks' Menu bar and then 'Edit Bookmarks', but that's mainly because of past issues I've had where iCloud tries to sync immediately and makes me wait or fails. Seems to work easier that way for me.
