I do not think I created a bootable installer I just clicked on the install Monterey in the application folder? does installing it from a bootable disk wipe your information or just updates the OS? If so how do I create the bootable disk? Thanks for the help!
Sorry for my ignorance
You can cancel the current one. And for making a bootable installer. Make sure you have a USB that can be formatted. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372

Also on the command. you will see for example it will have " --volume /blablabla/bla " . I recommend adding --downloadassets too so " --downloadassets --volume /bla/bla " so that it'll download the necessary things when it's making the installer..

To boot to the installer you can just look at the link above. It shows how to boot into it too

What's the situation with the memory leaks? I read through the whole thread but I couldn't find a clear answer.
Here is a screen shot i just took. WindowServer still acting up. I should have stated that this is on the 16 in M1 Pro Macbook Pro.

Had to upgrade with the bootable full installer as you suggested. No way to get the update thru Software Update, terminal or App Store. (MBP 14 M1)
I've read reports that shutting down first can help in convincing your Mac computer to check for new updates. Apparently, a simple restart will reload files from cache, whereas completely shutting down the computer first will clear out various items in its cache.

My WindowServer on my M1 Pro doesn't go above 1.5GB on average. The first and only leak I've gotten with it is 2GB overall. This 12.1 seems to have lowered it. So far hasn't gone more than 700-800MB

Thanks so much to everyone for their help. So here is something really weird. I was starting to hit cancel and then went to the App Store to download another iOS 12.1 copy. I hit refresh on the software preferences and there was the update to 12.1, so I clicked install it downloaded the software (around 3GB) and installed it and is now restarting! So weird. Not sure if I was doing something wrong. It just finished updated to 12.1, but what a pain! Good luck everyone!

Report the bug to Google, if the other browsers don't have an issue it has to do with Chrome
Yes, I already report it. Every feedback will help to improve the product. But does nobody else experience this? Or can someone try it?

For the time challenged, the article says,

initial testing here suggests that at least two of the known leaks have been fixed, in coloured pointer and the Control Center, but not in Finder File/Find, which does still leak steadily.
"For the time challenged," have you tested to challenge? 48 hr. testing here - CONFIRMS.

I can’t get the system to find 12.1 on my 2020 M1 MacBook Air. Shut down, restart, nothing. Still showing 12.0.1. I don’t want to download a full installer.

I'm still having charging issues while its powered off completely. The charger keeps blinking amber and making the connected sound.

Ended up just initiating the full download from the Mac App Store ?

I had to reinstall my printers/scanner/fax.

Noticed when changing tracks in Apple Music with latest version of Monterey I get jittering - only goes away when I restart or stop track. This on ATV4K in home theater, with AirPods Max or using my 7.2.4 speakers.

To those who cannot see the 12.1 update, this helped me on my M1 Mac mini and M1X MacBook Pro, both could not see the update...

1.) Open System Preferences > Software Update. Confirm that no update is available, and leave the window open.
2.) Open Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.
3.) Go to View > All Processes
4.) Search for 'com.apple.MobileSoftwareUpdate.UpdateBrainService' . Select it and click Force Quit.
5.) The 12.1 Update should appear in System Preferences. Click Update Now.
6.) The update may not download - force quit the com.apple.MobileSoftwareUpdate.UpdateBrainService again using Activity Monitor to start the download.

I don't know how or why this fixes it...

Didn't work for me. Ugh. Talked to Apple today, they can't (won't) figure it out.

Significantly reduced battery life after the update on my MacBook Pro 14” (10/16). Today under the same usual load it lasted about 2 hours less. I hope it’s an indexing issue of sorts.
