iOS updates definitely seem to be given precedence over macOS. iOS 15.1 only took a minute to download (1.something GB) on my iPhone and iPad, whereas Monterey (12~ GB) is going to take 40 minutes.

Downloading in Missouri...

Downloading now in US. 12.13GB on my 2016 MacBook. Which will be immediately replaced tomorrow with a 14" MacBook Pro.

I have looked during the last couple MacOS upgrades, but I can't find where the download is saved on my Mac. I would like to know where the file is saved, so I don't have to download it multiple times. Can anyone enlighten me?

are you sure? I just cancelled my 11.6.1 install because hoping to go to 12 directly?

I had 11.6.1 downloading on my MacBook Air because Monterey hadn't shown up yet like it did for my M1 iMac. I just cancelled 11.6.1 and am now downloading Monterey on the Air. So looks like 11.6.1 is definitely not needed.

why does "preparing update" always take so long? (ioS and OSX). What's going on?

So strange...I was downloading 11.6.1 and then once that finished and the machine was about to restart, it gave me the option to download Monterey...
