You do buy macs right?

Personally: no. I spent not one penny on Apple hardware. The only Apple product that I ever owned was a refurbished first generation iPhone (iOS 3.x) that was gifted to me. Less personally: I'm empathetic towards people who might rarely find enough money to buy a Mac (new or used) but not enough additional money to invest in solid state. But all of that is quite off topic so please, let's get back to …

I don't have any GM.

Please, can someone with GM on two or more Macs test whether the losses – with those types of file – are reproducible?

On topic. I have the GM on 3 different Macs now and so far works great and no issues on any of them.

But ... if you dont own any macs why do you even care about the performance of the GM?

Consideration towards other users, and potential users, including colleagues at work. Right now I have three Macs on the dining table, one of which is on and currently running an Apple OS from an external hard disk drive, but its internal SSD is given to FreeBSD; Mac OS X is no longer the OS for me. Loosely speaking, most the time that I give to MacRumors Forums is for fun; killing time.

Either way, for most people who own macs, spending $89 for an os boot ssd to vastly improve performance is not only a wise move, but also very much an affordable one.

Today I updated to from Public Beta 7 to the supposedly Public Beta GM macOS but it does not list the build number nor is it labeled "GM". Did I happen to get a final release?

The GM candidates do not show "beta" text. As with previous versions of OS X, click on the "version 10.12" text to see the build number.

I've never tried mac OS betas from my dev account, but I was planning on wiping my mac and installing sierra by itself when it releases. If I do this with the GM will I be able to update into future sierra releases like normal, or will I have to reinstall the OS once it officially comes out?

Almost certainly yes. And if you leave things as they are in the App Store pane of System Preferences, you'll see that "Your computer is set to receive beta software updates", with an option to change that preference.

In most cases in the past, you need to be running the final release build to get subsequent updates. This was the case with 10.11 where there were a few GM candidate builds- only the last one which was actually the same build as what was released to the public would offer updates to 10.11.1. I'd expect 10.12 to be similar. Each of the newer GM builds so far in 10.12 need to be manually downloaded; there's been no indication in Software Update that there's been a new version.

Hi....do you know if GM will be available for updating from 10.10.5? Also is anyone using 16A320 as their OS on their main machine?

Yes, but only for testing purpose. I installed the GM 16A320 on a separate test-HDD and migrated my OS X 10.10.5 workflow with MA, to test if I have any serious issues with any of my key applications etc. When the final release will be there on the 20th, I'll do yet another a clean install and migrate my OS X 10.10.5 workflow with MA.

So yes, it's on my main machine but not as my main MacOS yet. I'll await the 1st or 2nd .dot updates.

Cheers

I don't quite understand what you mean by "available for updating from 10.10.5".
You will likely have to download the final version from the App Store and install it. (16A322 is currently what you get if you download a new installer, so 16A320 definitely won't be the final version.)

Sorry..... what I meant was those of us not running 10.11 but older OS's will we be able to install Sierra without first installing 10.11?

Yep same here....but it is working so well from my external HD. So I just wondered if anybody, on this board, has been game enough to install the beta GM on their internal drive as their main OS;)

The system requirements only say that you need OS X Lion (10.7) or later to upgrade, so you'll be fine upgrading from 10.10.5.
