Had the same happen to me on my M3 Max 16". FileVault Key to AppleID sync not activated. So it can't be only macOS 14 Sonoma the trigger
It happened to me as well (macOS 14.3.1 --> 14.4).

After the update finished, I logged into my iCloud account at the system prompt, without really giving it much thought, only to find that the next step was to (re)set my existing, locally maintained FileVault Recovery Key and to link it to my Apple ID. Why?

I'd love to see them fix the very obvious battery drain and "service recommended" message they imposed on my high end 2019 MBP when I (now regretfully) installed Sonoma.

iOS 17.4 had to be release before the DMA deadline, I think that threw the cycle off ...
They probably also wanted to push the update out asap given that there are two security vulnerabilities that Apple believes are already being exploited (CVE-2024-23225 and CVE-2024-23296):

It also has some pretty big improvements in Safari 17.4

I'm hoping that as we get closer to the announcement of macOS 15 that'll we'll see more of the improvements seen in Webkit technology preview will make their way into Safari 18.

Am I the only one who finds the System Settings under Sonoma harder to find things than the old System Preferences layout? I'm not loving the move to a more iOS style for that as it doesn't seem any better laid out, only different, but maybe I'm just finally getting so old that I simply prefer when everything is where it always was, so I don't have to figure out where they moved it. It feels like my local grocery that occasionally rearranges the aisles to make customers look around more... it may get me to spend more time wandering around the store, but it doesn't get me to buy anything extra, just annoys me. I guess I should go yell at kids to get off my lawn.

You can use either spotlight (OS search) to immediately go to the particular system setting with matches, or just use the view menu when in system settings pull down that displays 42 alphabetized choices to rapidly go to. It's not like you need to relearn where everything is. Been like this since the previous Ventura. Example below:

Sure, when I know what to search for, but icons and muscle memory were pretty much the basis of the Mac from the beginning. I was very good at remembering commands for DOS and shortcut keystrokes, but as I grow older I don't find that as much fun as I used to.

Then you just need to frame what you want as a question that you can submit using a browser web search engine. Most of the time you pick the right wording you'll find what you need immediately, and of course there is always posting here. ;)

Can someone please let me know the Sonoma latest Safari version and build number please? I am keeping a record of the updates before apply it

Thanks
Came

Thanks, but you are assuming that I cannot find what I am looking for. I can always find it, but I still find it less useful than the original layout. I would have figured that by now I would find it more natural, but I still find the old method easier, hence my original comment. I understand that things change, but this doesn't seem like one of the better changes to me, and I prefer that if there is a change, it is obviously for the better. Edit: I also have other Macs running older OSes, which likely doesn't help, but Settings is the only MacOS change that seems to bother me when I alternate computers.

Again, I'm just getting old and grumpy, so I miss the days when system changes for the better were low hanging fruit. Computers work well enough now that most changes just seem like window dressing, so I find most of them either pointless or a downgrade... Apple forcing multiwindow on iPad OS being the biggest example of that one, as it is frustrating on an iPad mini unless you take a pencil sharpener to your fingertips (I digress, but if you can tell me how to turn that off I would truly appreciate it because that is one thing I actually haven't been able to figure out, as there no longer seems to be a way.)

Widgets set to monochrome are still displayed as gray when switching spaces:

I can only hope Apple will fix it in macOS 15…

Does someone know whether the InDesign bugs are fixed now with this release of Sonoma? Adobe updated their system requirements page on 6 March and I was hoping that they have finally resolved the issues:

Can't test it myself since I'm still on Ventura because of the issues with Adobe CC.

That’s what I find so strange. Why are Emojis given the attention in the Apple PR?
Because Emojis are important to Apple's target user demographics. Apple hardware engineers are top notch, Apple's PR think that toys sell better, so they focus on things important to teenagers, or teenagers that have not grown up.

The one thing that CONTINUES to drive me nuts is the Image Capture app won't remember its window size! I have to resize the darn window EVERY SINGLE TIME I open the app. It's this type of neglect that drives me nuts about Apple sometimes.
There are many windows like that since they started implementing iPad like interfaces using SwiftUI in macOS. I am not expecting a change anytime soon.

I was trying to remember what that reminded me of, and it finally came back to me... 😀

Only 3 days later then the 14.4 RC. This is quite different than usual. Apple must want to synchronize the entire OS suite to a new beta cycle soon.
I think it was more to ensure that it was up and running before the M3 MBAs launched on Friday (well today now.)

Weird. Mail just quit unexpectedly. It's just sitting there doing its thing and boom. This is soon after updating. New iMac M3 set up new when I got it and no migration from previous iMac. Hopefully it's just a one time thing. I Rebooted the iMac to clear up the memory.
