This seems like a huge exaggeration for a feature that is completely optional to use in the first place. My takeaway is they’ve successfully simulated what it feels like to have dementia. I can’t find anything, can’t get anything done, and I don’t understand the rules of the cosmos anymore.
Well it is, cause I'm using it on there.I notice the article does not say Ventura is compatible with the Mac Studio.
I wasn't on the beta, I've downloaded Ventura and had a poke around and yes, things work OK!It's quite remarkable to read this thread and see all of the "iterations, suggestions, reasons etc." for NOT simply downloading the update. I'm sure there is a reason, but I'm dumb and fail to see it, even though I've used a Mac longer than many here have been alive. 😂 -- Now... for 100% clarification this is the first time that I have ever participated in an Apple beta, and it was painless, actually "quite un-remarkable to be honest" and I had zero issues with my applications in the process, and felt confident enough to use the betas on client projects that were / are currently underway. So I know I'll be slammed by the "haters and naysayers" and that is fine. But... I did not have to do flips, spin on my head, conduct multiple backups, pray to the Mac Gods, promise my wife a vacation in the Bahamas, or any other weird things for it to just work. Davinci, FCP, Adobe, Networking, Terminal commands, and just general putzing around work just fine. Hope you all have a great day! ☺️
Likewise - been running it on my Mac Studio since last night.Well it is, cause I'm using it on there.
Not sure if I am a pro or not - but I do recognize its not optimal for Mac. I think its more useful for iPad to be blunt and it was designed from that perspective. For the Mac - I think some simple updates would make a huge difference in window management - minimize the window when clicking the icon on the dock, closing the app when you hit the red (x) button in the app window, and a nice snap to grid function. Spaces and desktops will do the rest.and far from being pros, i get the feeling that most people using these machines can't even tell it's bad UX, simply because it animates with a 'woooo' factor.
i'm surprised there hasn't been more backlash and derision in response to this mess.
I honestly can't tell if it's a Docker Desktop issue or macOS is the main culprit. I did not check Docker after upgrading macOS, I've updated Docker Desktop without running it. However it's not the first time Docker got broken after macOS upgrade. I'm pretty sure I'll switch to podman soon. Need to sort out some issue with volumes and good bye Docker.Wow, this one I consider as show stopper for me
Can you provide some details concerning the bugs? Would be interested to know before I start the upgrade![]()
The 2011 line came with sautered-on SATA SSDs, so there never was a discrete drive to install or pull.
I've kept on tinkering and apparently the good old "have you turned it off and on" helped 😅. I've unplugged all cables from the hub, waited a few seconds, plugged them in and then it worked again. Yesterday I forgot to unplug the charger for the passthrough charging, which kept the usb-hub running and prevented the power cycle. This is very concerning. I still have a lot of users with Anker USB-C hubs.
Apple merely caught up to Windows 11, have you seen those settings yet? I got used to the Windows 10 settings app and now I can't find anything, and MacOS is no different now. How much redesigning do OS settings really need? Do people set up bluetooth devices, TM backups, printers and so on on a daily basis? If they wanted to improve that on MacOS, all they'd need to do is make the settings app fullscreen and list all the subsettings that are contained in each category so you see what's where on first glance. Windows at least makes a bit better use of the space and does give some hints as to what's hidden behind a category.Apple was successful in the not easy task to create system preferences that are worse then in Linux and Windows.
You're kidding right? How am I supposed to control when to enable a SOCKS proxy (when working remotely) and when not (the rest of the time) ??? This is essential core technology, not something to be arbitrarily removed.Locations has been removed from Ventura.
Whoops, posted this is the old thread and meant to post it here. My use use case is simple: remote work uses a SOCKS proxy, everything else does not. If the laptop is at home, I use one "Location" that enables the SOCKS proxy. If the laptop is elsewhere, I have to run the proxy myself locally and use a different "Location" with a different proxy url. For anything else, I use a "Location" that doesn't try to reach work. I don't need the automatic changes, but definitely need the ability to manually change the settings often, and a quick selection from the apple menu is a lot easier than navigating through the UX nightmare of System Settings to dig all the way into the advanced settings to change it (and hope the last time it was disabled, it was just disabled but didn't forget the details so it can just be reenabled).![]()
Apple Removes Network Locations Feature in macOS Ventura
In addition to redesigning the System Settings app on macOS Ventura, Apple has removed the app's longstanding Network Locations feature, as noted...www.macrumors.com
They could bring it back if that is still present. This is the first version of Ventura with new system settings. They still need to release FreeForm in the future

Downloading

Here we go, currently downloads at around 15Mb/s not ideal, but better than usually at release.
Showed up for me in Europe.
It's a 5.52Gb download for me from 12.6 on a 16" M1 Pro MacBook Pro.
LE: Now it shows as a 6.37Gb download.
Just saw it on the 2017 iMac (iMac18,3), will upgrade it during lunch time.
3.92GB download from macOS Monterey 12.6.
Mine was 12.15 GB initially. It was happily downloading that 12.15 GB. This was on a Monterey 12.6 MacBook and I had just turned on the machine and the first thing I did was to start the Software Update. Why are different users seeing such drastically different download sizes? Mine is 12.15 GB, upgrading from the latest Monterrey release. Are the users getting half or less size downloads running the beta already (so it doesn't have to install as much)?

My doomy sky-is-falling fear is that somewhere in the distant future they eliminate spaces/desktops in favor of everyone using stages.
And the missing xcode-select tools. Yeah, that's the stuff.
And ancient (bad for at least five years): When you're in threaded view, if you delete a message from the middle of the thread, the selection will randomly jump to some other message in the thread (instead of just moving to the next, or previous, message, like it does outside of threads).

Docker Desktop is working on my M1 Mac mini running Ventura.Yay! Docker Desktop is unusable again. And the missing xcode-select tools. Yeah, that's the stuff.
Mine was 12.5 GB for the full installer on a 2018 Mac mini and 3.92Gb on my 2020 iMac, others I have not updated jet. Booth had the latest version of Monterey installed.
