Actually find Ventura more stable than the release made this time last year. I also think a great deal of improvements were made under the hood rather than the glamour of new features (which will need tuning over the next few months)

I would suggest booting into Recovery and then open up Terminal and enter the following

repairHomePermissions

That should open up the Repair Home 'app' where it'll prompt you for your password, and then it resets permissions on your data and folders.
Thanks for the suggestion! The reinstall seems to have fixed it, so all good.

Definitely looking forward to diving into the changes. Already like the new Settings menu.

How do I download the whole image instead of just the 3.92 GB upgrade?

I like to keep copies of all new macOS install images.

type the following command in Terminal.app:

softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 13.0

Installed Ventura on my MacMini M1 and my USB-C connection to LG monitor isn't working any more. I had use the HDMI cable. Also Screen resolution can't be adjusted like monteray. So far not very happy with Ventura. The Settings Menu is very "strange"
Could you tell me what sort of LG monitor this is please - all the best for sorting out this issue.

Just finished installing Ventura om my 2017 iMac.

I can't believe how fast the computer is right now. It's so snappy. They've really nailed the optimization this time.

Now I'm waiting for my M1 MAcbook Air to finish as well. I'm very curious to see if I get the same feeling of speed as on my older iMac.
This gives me some hope that my 2019 intel iMac will work "snappy" too. Fingers still crossed🤞🏻
Please report back.

I bought my first MacBook at 2012 and remember Apple charging around 20 Eur for a macOS upgrade. But that was I think the only update that I remember that was not for free. I think Mavericks was the first free upgrade
I remember when they would charge to update pages, Numbers etc. on each platform... That's money I can never get back. But I grew up in the 80s so I also remember paying to upgrade the OS. Funny how people will complain now about the increase in price of things like Apple Music etc... but don't remember being charged $100.00+ to upgrade the OS every year or so. I remember being excited about OS 8.5 and the introduction of Sherlock... That was $99.00 at the time. (and so worth it)

I've installed macOS 13, but now VLC doesn't seem to work? Anyone have this issue where trying to play any video causes the program to freeze?

EDIT: I reinstalled VLC and restarted my Macbook and it has started working again. Will monitor if it happens again.

My M2 Air is ready to install any minute now but my 2015 rMBP 13" is already mid-install with the aid of OCLP nightly. That one will be interesting.. If it works the 2012 MBA will get the same treatment. Screw planned obsolescence.

The 2019 16" MBP gets to wait though. Mission-critical machine.

Oh I thought it was Lion...

Forgot to mention though, but Avid products are working fine under Ventura... Sibelius, Pro Tools, and Avid Link are the ones I can test... and they all work flawlessly!

Installing now but I tried using the terminal command to get full install and it didn't recognize the command? I entered it just like the text.

Any ideas. Would like a complete install.

Thanks

I turned on stage manager and I think it looks nice. Instead of activating the Dock, you can just go to the side and it seems much more seamless.

Not sure about that. My first MacBook was early 2011 model and as such came with preinstalled macOS Lion. As I bought it in 2012, I was able to upgrade to Mountain Lion and remember that the price tag was 18.99 or 19.99. I remember that, as it was a funny price to pay compare to the Microsoft Windows os system. And then they cut the price down to 0, so I was more excited then ever not to pay for original OS.

Question here for everyone. Can we still make the USB boot stick installer with these? I ask, because up to this past April, I had been on a mid-2011 MBA running Sierra, and as it was solid on it, High Sierra was buggy as anything on it, and High Sierra was the latest MacOS that would support that Mac, I hadn't performed a OS update in 6 years.

Now that I'm on a M1 Pro MBP, can this still be done with the full Ventura download?

BL.

You remember correct. They came with Lion preinstalled, but had to pay to get Mountain Lion. After Mountain Lion, you could upgrade for free. However, everyone prior to Lion (Snow Leopard and older) still had to pay to get Lion.

Yes, you should be able to do that. Just run sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Ventura.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Name\ of\ volume (god, I really hope that's right!)

EDIT: You can also attach the --nointeraction flag to flash the thumb drive w/out prompts
