We recently dropped Gmail completely and couldn't be happier. Other IMAP email services work great in the Mail app. Gmail's nonstandard IMAP implementation is a headache and is the only oddball. Other email clients have problems with it as well. In this day and age with mobile devices and tablets, I'm finding very little need to ever visit a website to access my email so Gmail had to go.

What service are you currently using?

Still waiting for the update to show up for me... nothing yet.

Doesn't install on first GM:

Mail Update for Mavericks can't be installed on this disk. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update
People have been saying from the start future system updates most likely won't install on the first GM build.

Marketcircle Daylite

Update breaks DMA, so if you want to use Daylite on the desktop with Mail integration do not install the update before Marketcircle has made a fix.

I'm using iCloud. For custom personal domains I use Outlook.com but as soon as Apple allows custom domains I'm switching those to iCloud as well.

I also have a grandfathered Google Apps custom domain email that is forwarded to a secondary iCloud email account set up as "Other IMAP". Works fantastic.

Really wish iCloud allowed personal domains. The iCloud service works really well. Push is faster than any service I've seen so far. Mac and iPhone emails arrive pretty much instantly consistent and unlike Gmail and Outlook, changes in the Mac and iPhone clients show immediately on the web version without any sort of refresh or anything.

group names in "To" field doesn't work

This update did not fix the problem with adding group names from Contacts to the "To" field in an email. In 10.8, I used to be able to just type in the name of a group of my Contacts in the "To" field, and all the Contacts' addresses would be entered.

FYI, this is working for me on 10.9 before and after this update - in fact, I did it several times today! However, I haven’t created any new groups (or mod’ed any existing groups) since my Mavs update.

Does the group name auto-populate at all? Does it just not expand to the individual addresses?

Just install the current GM over the first GM and you should not have any problems....that is what I did, and I have been able to take advantage of all Mavericks updates to date........:)

This is exactly the same build that was released to developers a few days ago.

Cannot unsubscribe from OSX 10.9 Mail Public Folders - even after latest update

Sad to say that this update didn't solve our problem. Apple seem to have removed the feature to unsubscribe to shared IMAP folders. Instead you subscribe to all. At work, it means downloading 5.5 million mail directly after upgrading to Mavericks, and receiving between 1000 and 2000 mail daily. Spotlight seems to have troubles indexing this ammount too so Smart Folders just stopped working in Mail… Sad. this is a feature that's been there since at least 10.2 and our company relies on it quite heavily as you can imagine.

Yep I agree, this update does not address the IMAP subscribed public folders bug introduced with OSX Mail in OS 10.9.

Basically OSX Mail in 10.9 will automatically subscribe itself to the WHOLE public folders list, and start downloading the entire database. For our organisation this is multiple terabytes, which obviously does not fit onto our iMacs with SSDs - which then complain about running out of hard disk space. I have submitted bug reports to apple twice already about it. This is a major issue that is preventing us from updating the entire organisation to OS10.9.

How much charge does the battery need to preform the firmware update, for the trackpad and keyboard. I forgot that my battery was low at 25% while preforming the update. But it was plugged to the AC Adapter I hope i did not harm my Mac.

You should be totally fine. Those low-power/no-AC warnings are a concern over the machine losing power in the middle of the firmware update which could be catastrophic.

:)

I weened myself off of Gmail since the Mavericks release and now only have my own domain email account and the .mac account in Mail.

I see this update, again, broke my GPGMail encryption plugin. :(

Reinstall latest GPG Suite, this will fix the problem

After Apple Mail Patch I Can't Send A Numbers Attachment

After applying today's patch, I tried to attach a Mac 10.9 Numbers Spreadsheet (Version 3.0 (1470)) and Gmail refuses to send the file because it thinks the file is a virus.

Gmail expects only these file extensions listed at this link.

This update works great for me.

I don't have major problems with Gmail and Mail. It's not perfect, but it's not enough of an issue to go through the pain of moving to another service.

Not many Exchange users I guess. I've never been able to get it to work reliably and obviously this update doesn't touch that.

The most sensible long term solution would be for Google to create a new standard, built around the "Single Mail Repository + Tags" metaphor. Call it say "IMAP-T".
I think tags are a superior model for handling large amounts of messages, and a really useful feature to have for users.
This way not only several mail clients would be able to work well with GMail, but also new mail providers could adopt the model, increasing competition (or at the very least the options available) and ultimately benefiting the users.

Of course Google is quite unlikely to do this, since they earn far more money with users getting their mail through the gmail.com web interface instead of using third party clients. Google is an advertising company after all.

I migrated my family's personal email domain to Office 365 (similar to Google Apps). It's been more rough than I expected and gmail.com is a great email service, but ultimately -and quite ironically- we get more flexibility with Microsoft's product.
