AMD's 300 series is the most energy efficient mobile gpu set yet and we know Apple loves battery power...so yeah.

Source other than AMD marketing? Afaik the m370x is a 270 re-badge and not a new AMD chip and considering how much better mobile maxwell is than the current 2xx AMD mobile I'm not holding my breath. I guess my dreams of a broadwell+gt960m aren't going to happen...

Also, apple is one the few last laptop makers still going with AMD this gen, all the other latest dgpu laptops are going Maxwell.

In other words, we get the same cpu, a dgpu sidegrade, and a new trackpad. Meh

Interesting route going to AMD graphics.
Why then, is integrated graphics still an option on the entry level 15' MBP - this is embarrassing in 2015.
At least they managed to get everything else right for this update - better battery, faster internal SSD, and force touch. Those on pre-retina will be very happy, unless you want to keep waiting until the potential skylake refresh.

Perfect timing. My 2008 uMBP is really feeling it's age. I hope to look into a new laptop within the next few weeks!

Not everyone that buys these needs, or wants to pay for discrete graphics. For some, they simply want a 13" MBP with a bigger screen.

I hope this is the reason Apple have not delivered the stock $1999 iMac we ordered six weeks ago!!

If you're talking about the hard drive I'll bet you'll be disappointed the day you buy your first Fusion drive'd Mac...

hardly, got one and fussion drive works well.. buying old spinner now, for little less than high end 5k imac is simply braindead

I have a mid 2010 quad core i7, dgpu 15" Macbook Pro that I upgraded to an SSD hard drive. I dont have any problem with speed on the machine, the battery is starting to show its age but I think I am going to wait until Skylake or Broadwell.

It will help my wallet out for a few months, just bought an Apple Watch so...

Who else thinks will see a redesign and Skylake/Broadwell at the end of the year?

Canadian pricing hurts due to exchange rates:
$3K for the high end 15" Macbook Pro. Ouch.

Yup. I'm waiting for Skylake and expect a redesign - its been a few years.

I've waited long enough 6 months more won't really matter. 2011 Macbook Pro's are still fast enough and the HD display is great.

Ordered a 15" MacBook Pro.

Quite honestly, if there is a processor update coming later in the year, I won't be too bummed. After all, I'm going to have this machine for so long that for most of it's life it won't be the newest.

I'm just glad I waited for the Force Touch trackpad.
That's the right attitude and you're spot on about the Force Touch!

One has soldered RAM and comes in one size only (medium = 16GB). The other has user upgradeable RAM and comes in three sizes (small = 8GB, medium = 16GB, large = 32GB). So you are complaining about having more choices with the iMac.

Actually, no. I was complaining about the base RAM size. But yes, the upgradeability is a good point.

Wow and some nice price increases for RAM and SSD and CPU of 20% across the entire mac line (in the netherlands)

The new Retina iMac model is $2400 in Canada. I guess that is a more reasonable price compared to $2750 high-end model.

But.... 8GB RAM...? Hard drive...? No i7 option...? The 15" MBP model, which also received update, comes with standard i7 and 16GB RAM.

Liking the new price point for the iMac 5K. Much more compelling an option.

The baseline rMBP should offer a little more though, a 15" pro machine shouldn't be relying on integrated graphics :/ Or am I just being unreasonable?

Stop gap release it seems

Looks like they are planning a major upgrade for October:

Skylake

DDR4

32 GB option on the MacBook Pro 15 inch

This update is just a stop gap until then.

The 2010 i7 isn't quad core, as far as I know. Mine still has a spinning drive, as well. I really want to update to an iMac, but somehow none of the options seem good enough for the price. My MBP battery is basically 50% dead. Computer shuts off around "50% charge left," and the lack of USB 3 and thunderbolt sucks.

how come the laptops get faster storage (as the base), yet the desktops get stuck with the stupid 7200 rpm spindle. I was hoping that the retina iMac would have at minimum a fusion drive as the base, but it looks like they are going backwards with the storage for iMac's which is very disappointing.

4)And there's no i7 option for people that, you know, spend $2000 and actually want some killer performance to somewhat future proof their investment.

Bluetooth Force trackpad / new keyboard

You think they'll release a new bluetooth force trackpad and keyboard? My trackpad is acting up and I'd gladly replace it if they had a force touch one.

Can understand them releasing a cheaper version with reduced specs, but to put a hard drive in it is just bizarre
