Apple today released a new firmware update for all AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 models. The AirPods Pro 2 firmware has a build number of 7A302, up from 7A294, and the AirPods 4 firmware has a build number of 7A304.

There is no word yet on what’s included in the firmware, but it comes just a week after Apple last updated the AirPods Pro 2 firmware to add iOS 18 features like support for head gestures and Voice Isolation.

Apple is adding hearing aid and hearing test functionality to the AirPods Pro 2, so this update could potentially introduce those capabilities, or it may lay the groundwork for a future update. Apple plans to introduce hearing aid features to the AirPods Pro 2 this year, and the company has received FDA approval. Hearing aid functionality will not be included in the AirPods 4.

Apple doesn’t have a way to manually upgrade AirPods software, but firmware is generally installed over-the-air when the AirPods are in a charging case and connected to an iOS device or Mac.

Hope this fixes the issue with the AP2 connecting to MacMini but not producing any sounds until after you turn off bluetooth and back on. Gets old having to do it every time you take them out of your ears.

Be nice if this fixed the conversation awareness quality. Before the 7A294 when detecting your voice it would go into transparency mode and worked well. Now it still shows it moves to transparency but I can hardly hear my surroundings.

Had an odd one with Youtube as it cause issues. When I went to just using regular speakers the problem went away. Only started since the update. Short version - I go to Youtube and the pages has a few video choices. Usually just put the cursor on one and it plays. Wth the APpro 2, the vid would play for a moment then completely stop. A couple of times it would start up again then as quickly as it started up it would stop again. Strange. I was not moving at all so doubt there was a head nod or something maybe causing it...

I wish they would just fix it and leave it alone. Me and everyone I know who have airpod pro 2's are having issues for the last couple of months. I'm carrying around a pair of wired headphones these days because I can't trust mine.
Without specifics, it sounds like you're trolling. Care to elaborate on what problems you've been having?

Siri has been sounding very "tinny" and a bit garbled for me lately via my AirPods Pro 2. Tried re-downloading the Siri voices, switching voices, etc. On iOS 18.1 B4. Not sure if I'm alone here? Otherwise the AirPods sound fine, it's just when Siri responds that it sounds "off".

I'm on 7A294 and people say they can't hear me on phone calls. I hoped this update would help but I had my wife use them and took her phone to the other room and sure enough it's very muffled and quiet. Mine are almost 2 years old. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. Maybe this update will help.

What issues with your AirPod Pro 2 are you encountering?

I have a pair too and haven't really had any problems. I did notice though that with the latest watchOS 11 upgrade, I don't see to be able to use my watch to adjust between Noise Cancellation, Transparency, etc. I can only use the tips of pods to make that adjustment. Prior to watchOS 11, I was able to use my Watch to adjust those settings.

Interesting. Came home, noticed the new firmware was released. Look at firmware, was old version. Plugged them in, near iPhone, had new firmware about a minute later. Haven't seen that before.

Now, it "feels" like noise cancellation has increased. But, there is zero function between transparency and adaptive. That's weird. I never use them, ever, but thought I'd test them out with this update. Once upon a time I seem to recall they actually made a difference.

Can you remind me which way I have to hop on one foot when trying to get these to update? Is it clockwise, counter-clockwise, or the bunny hop?

I don’t understand where this information originates from. AirPods 4 are not out so how do we know about a firmware update before it’s reflected on the support page?

Played out trope.
Nope, still relevant. I use Pro 2’s as primary when flying and there is a noticeable change in ANC quality after every update. Sometimes it improves and im stoked only for it to be nerfed again in the next update. My thoughts are it is because people complain about it being too aggressive, which I understand but is also why other brands like Bose offer adjustments for the level of noise cancelation.

Personally I hope this fixes the weird “popping” sound that sometimes accompanies Siri announcements. It’s super annoying but I can’t detect a pattern for what triggers it. Happens in both noise cancel and transparency, and with notifications and responses to commands but fluctuates, sometimes back to back. Siri will be reading a string of text messages and the first round will pop, next will be normal then the following will go back to popping.
