Interesting. Came home, noticed the new firmware was released. Look at firmware, was old version. Plugged them in, near iPhone, had new firmware about a minute later. Haven't seen that before.

Now, it "feels" like noise cancellation has increased. But, there is zero function between transparency and adaptive. That's weird. I never use them, ever, but thought I'd test them out with this update. Once upon a time I seem to recall they actually made a difference.

Have you tried adjusting the slider? I turned it all the way to the left and now it's closer to noise cancellation. They need a few more notches in between.

I've noticed similar issues from Siri lately. I just did a re-test after the update and it does not appear to have resolved it unfortunately.
Crud. It’s really annoying and I reported it the day I noticed it. I updated earlier but haven’t had a chance to test to see, so thanks for letting me know.

Yup, especially when they actually BOOSTED noise cancellation for the AirPods Pro 2 about six months ago, with a firmware release. My daily commute got very noticeably quieter after that update (maybe in February or so?) ...
I know that was awesome. While I prefer my Pro 2’s to Bose for various reasons, it was great having Bose-level NC for awhile there until they nerfed it, again.
Honestly I just wish they would add a toggle for levels of NC like literally every other NC headphone brand offers.

USB-C model but the same update was available for both models at the same time.
No idea how two firmware updates sneaked right past me, especially since I'm glued way too often on MR. On 7A302 now, cheers.

Edit: On 7A302 now but right at this moment, 6F8 still showing on support.apple.com pages as being the latest available firmware.

Since the last firmware I had a bit of a harder time keeping them connected in a crowded gym, one would go out, then the other, they'd be on different noise modes. I had a few blips before the last firmware, but they were few and far in between, so not sure if related.

Hope this fixes that if so.

i have an airpods pro 2 and i ride my bike every mon-fri from work to home.. my problem is that my wife cant hear me talking while on the go with my bike. she said that the background is more louder than my voice & the only she can hear me well is when i started yelling which im not comfortable.. hope that this new airpods has been updated & lessen the background sounds

I got the 7A302 update on APP2. I listened to various types of music on Tidal, tracks that I'm familiar with and I notice much stronger bass. Too strong, for me...

Only listened for a few minutes since the update but I agree, mostly mid base for me. Even the highs sounded clearer before.

I'm on 7A294 and people say they can't hear me on phone calls. I hoped this update would help but I had my wife use them and took her phone to the other room and sure enough it's very muffled and quiet. Mine are almost 2 years old. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. Maybe this update will help.

"The new ones are better, buy those" -- Tim Cook, probably.

Nope, still relevant. I use Pro 2’s as primary when flying and there is a noticeable change in ANC quality after every update. Sometimes it improves and im stoked only for it to be nerfed again in the next update. My thoughts are it is because people complain about it being too aggressive, which I understand but is also why other brands like Bose offer adjustments for the level of noise cancelation.
Why would anyone complain about it being too aggressive? That's a bit like someone saying their kettle boils water too quickly. It is ridiculous. If I want ANC on, then I want it to be as good as possible. If people don't want it fully on, there is the adaptive transparency mode, or whatever it is called. There may well be some people thinking the ANC is too quiet for them, but I don't believe Apple would downgrade the ANC because of that when the vast majority of customers probably want the maximum possible noise cancellation.

Expecting my pre-ordered AirPods 4 w/NC this Friday. Is there a way to see what firmware version is installed for comparison?
Looking forward to hearing some real world feedback on these things. I love the idea of them, but I am guessing the ANC won't nearly compete with the APPs. But I hope to be wrong.

Possibly Apple is sometimes concerned about the safety implications of a user unintentionally blocking out their surroundings, to the point that they don’t hear oncoming traffic. So maybe they will tweak which frequencies are drowned out, to maximize safety. Just a guess.

Personally I hope this fixes the weird “popping” sound that sometimes accompanies Siri announcements. It’s super annoying but I can’t detect a pattern for what triggers it. Happens in both noise cancel and transparency, and with notifications and responses to commands but fluctuates, sometimes back to back. Siri will be reading a string of text messages and the first round will pop, next will be normal then the following will go back to popping.
This is the new head gestures feature where you can nod yes or shake your head no to respond to Siri announcements. You can disable it if you don’t like it under the AirPods Pro settings in the Settings app.

First time I try an update at my AirPods Pro 2 and it doesn’t work. Over an hour with an open case next to my phone but nothing. Using iOS 18.1 b4 (Germany)

Try having it on a charger and closing the case. After realising I missed two firmware announcements recently, it happened within 1/2 hr for me. (iOS 17.7 in DE).

I don't know if this is a coincidence or not but this procedure worked for me the last 2 times:
1. Play music on your iPhone for 5-10 minutes.
2. Put the pods back in the case and charge close to the iPhone.

I also open and close the lid occasionally but I can't say if that has anything to do with it either. I wish Apple made it more straightforward like a notification in Settings.

People with noise cancellation reduction need to take theirs to an Apple Store for tests.

Reason, I have had 4 buds replaced over the course of 18 months because I commute a lot and notice noise cancellation been reduced but still works. To be fair everything still works apart from the noise cancellation and I can tell as it seems a little of balance when it happens almost like one side is slightly reduced.

Every time I get that feeling I took them in for tests and every time one of the buds have failed the test that apple does. And replace that bud.

When the bud gets replaced i always get my full noise cancellation back even when the bud updates to the latest firmware.

I think there is some sort of design flaw where the mic or something degrades. I have tried many things to prevent this and every time I end up with a faulty unit. The thing I am trying now is not
To use them for running as two things lots of impact and sweat may be entering them. Time will tell.

But anyone who things their noise cancellation is poor go get them checked as when it happens the noise cancellation still works 80% effective

I'm spiderman. Because after the update with ANC on, I can hear external sounds.
