Hopefully this fixes the issue of only one AirPod getting sound. So frustrating to have to put them back in the case and try again. And yes, I’ve tried resetting/repairing them to no avail.
This is a known issue. Make a genius bar appointment for issues with them and they will test and replace them with refurbished earbuds. (new earpieces) This works even out of warranty.

refurbished? I thought all AirPods replacements are brand new, just in a plain box?

im giving up own AirPods Pros... 3rd pair with same fault - Transparency/Noise c doesn't work! it switches and makes the sound and I checked ins settings and it enables/disables ok but nothing actually changes - does my nut in.

I hope this fixes the issue for iPhone XS users where the AirPods disconnect when you answer a call
Regarding this, do that disconnect when you accept the call on the phone? If so then you have to answer it with her AirPods for it to stay connected

My Airpod Pros are on the old firmware what kind of sorcery do I have to invoke to update them?

I remember a few years ago some one suggested human sacrifice. I contemplated it, and by the next morning, they had updated. (Maybe whisper the nasty things you will do to them if they don't update? It might work)
