Find My… notifies me when I leave them behind?I need a firmware update that prevents me from losing these things out of my own carelessness.
My Airpods Max just updated to the new firmware about 20 minutes ago.Apple pulled the update.
Microphones. Bluetooth chipset power. Batteries. Whole host of things working together form “ANC” - it’s not a silver bullet. How does ANC degrade as devices age? I don’t get it
Isn’t three (or 4) years the battery limit?Tried it to see if it would fix defective AirPods Pro 1st generation. It was making static sounds (white noise) sometimes. I thought firmware would fix it because it only happened after a loud noise, like closing the car door. But this firmware update did not fix it.
Apple refuses to replace my AirPods Pro because I just missed the 3yr window on the service program. It doesn't appear to be a "small number" of units affected. It seems that most will fail sooner or later. Disappointed in Apple. I keep looking for an alternative from a competitor, but so far I don't like anything I've tried as much.
AirPods do not last all that long when heavily used. I usually buy 2 and cycle them - I find this helps them last a bit longer.Isn’t three (or 4) years the battery limit?
My AP1 (not Pro) were horrible after a year.
Lots of conflicting claims but no one ever showed any hard evidence one way or the other.Didn't they release an update that reduced the quality of the AirPod Pro's noise cancellation feature following a lost in a law suit to a patent troll? I wish there were an option to not allow automatic updates for AirPods. I'm pretty dubious of all updates now.
God is a grammar nazi!Margaret,
It's Me, You-Know-Who.
Request denied. You left out a comma before your name and didn't capitalize Apple.![]()
This update contains:
Apple today introduced new 5E133 firmware for the AirPods 2, AirPods 3, the AirPods Max, the original AirPods Pro, and the AirPods Pro 2 up from the 5B58 and 5B59 firmware updates that were released in November and January.

Apple does not offer immediately available release notes on what's included in refreshed firmware updates for the AirPods, but the company does maintain a support document with release information.
There is no standard way to upgrade the AirPods software, but firmware is installed over-the-air while the AirPods are connected to an iOS device. Putting the AirPods in the case, connecting the AirPods to a power source, and then pairing the AirPods to an iPhone or an iPad should force the update after a short period of time.
You can check your AirPods firmware by following these steps:
If we find notable changes after the firmware updates are installed, we'll update this article, but the software likely includes performance improvements and bug fixes.
- Connect your AirPods to your iOS device.
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap General.
- Tap About.
- Tap AirPods.
- Look at the number next to "Firmware Version."

How does ANC degrade as devices age? I don’t get it
Dust / grime clogging the micsMicrophones. Bluetooth chipset power. Batteries. Whole host of things working together form “ANC” - it’s not a silver bullet.
I owned a ton of them and every one experienced the same linear degradation.
Exactly this. Some people don't want to understand this, though.Dust / grime clogging the mics
Speakers getting dirty
Usage results in reduction of performance over time.
My experience with airpods and updates is that the best way to do it is via a mac. As soon as they are charging they update quite quickly.I open and close the case 3x, keep both it and iPhone charging. Wait.
Old firmware updated in 5 minutes. New one took an hour. Case dinged when APP2 updated, then dinged a second time when case updated.
Exactly this. Some people don't want to understand this, though.
Also, tips should be exchanged every couple of months. I do that regularly and I am always surprised by how much better the new ones seal again - which of course also improves ANC functionality again as it isn't as effective without a proper seal.
Just rinse them with water every now and then and you'll be fine. That's what Apple recommends.Ohhh, I didn't know that you should exchange the tips every couple of months. I have never bought new tips, bc the tips doesn't visually degrade (or I just didn't notice)
Does Apple have recommendation, how often you should exchange the tips btw?
I am not aware of that but Sennheiser and Beyerdynamic have stated it should be done „on a regular basis“ whatever that means. I do it every two to three months roughly.Ohhh, I didn't know that you should exchange the tips every couple of months. That only cleans them, though. It’s of no use against the degradation and deformation or stiffness of the silicone material itself.Just rinse them with water every now and then and you'll be fine. That's what Apple recommends.
