This afternoon, my AirPod Pro 3 suddenly died on their own. I received a notification on my Apple Watch informing me I left my AirPod Pro 3 behind in the office. But they were in my pocket! When I tried to use them in the evening, both the charging case and EarPods buds were completely dead, with LED no longer working, charging not happening, etc.
I contacted Apple Care and will ship back my AirPod Pro 3 for investigation.

Some people online also reported similar sudden “dead” AirPod Pro 3. Maybe I just received a defective product a month ago. Let’s see what Apple says.

That’s happening at the bad time, I’m on a business trip and due to fly back in a few days back to the UK. That means flying without listening to music or watching something :(

The Airpods Pro 2 users will be mad, knowing the ANC is purposefully getting downgraded to force users to upgrade to the APP3. Ive said it all the time, again, predicted that the ANC is done due to using foam tips. Which APP2 are able to achieve with third party items. So it is necessary to downgrade the ANC on the APP2, to get that money train going.

APP2 still test strong. Independent measurements (RTINGS) updated through 2025 continue to show excellent ANC on AirPods Pro 2 (overall attenuation ≈ 24–26 dB), not decreased performance.

These claims come up all the time, for example back in September people on the Apple Community forum were saying they felt APP2 ANC got worse after updates. You’ll find forum threads around firmware updates and iOS 18 with users saying ANC felt weaker—but that’s anecdotal and inconsistent across users/devices. There is no data ever provided. So people can say whatever they want but without data it is just noise.

My case also just updated to 8A358 so they’re both on the new firmware now. Case firmware is likely things like charging curves, Find My features, connection improvements,…
People who work on this software have their own family and friends using their products. Would you do this to a friend?

AirPods Pro 2 updated to 8A358 within 10 minutes but case version is still on 8A356? How does one update the case? For the AirPods, no issue but for the case it's always a struggle :(

connect the Charging Case to power
Does a wireless charger count as "connected to power"? As many other users, I got the AirPods' firmware updated to 8A358 but not the case's.

P.S.:
I guess 'll never know... until the next update. Connected to a USB-C cable, the case was also updated.

It would be great if Apple introduced an update mechanism that lets users decide whether or not to install updates. The reason they don’t is because they want to maintain full control over new product features. Just before the release of the APP3, the ANC on my APP2 noticeably worsened, allowing more ambient noise through. Now, of course, they can claim that the new ANC is twice as good.

APP3 case wont update.

I’m quite sure they tweaked the highs at least. There’s a couple of songs in my test list with offensive cymbals that are much more listenable now.

Share this playlist of yours and what each song is “testing” and when in the song??…I love reading headphone reviews when reviewers list what songs they tested and what they were listening for in each song…

Thanks in adv for any and all of your time peace

…and yeah I’m still on version ‘58

And case ‘56 : /

At work and having to do the trouble desk so can't really test out like crazy. Got the update and the APP3 and sound has change. Base change is for sure noticeable.

I had the same experience. As some others have mentioned, it would be nice to have an update toggle.
Yes, the update process for Apple AirPods continues be awkward often shrouded in a feeling of "did it update or not" Very un-Apple design. But somehow we manage and live to tell our tales. Ha Ha

For those complaining about nerfed ANC on APP2, be sure to carefully check your ear tips. I recently noticed poor ANC on my 3-year old APP2 and after close inspection noticed a small tear in one of my L tips. Apple sells a 2-pack of replacement tips in the size you need for just $10. I replaced my tips with new ones and my APP2 sound like new again. After 3 years I guess the silicone tips probably start to deteriorate.

I really like the bass and sound on my APP3, if this changes it I won't be happy. I would hope to be able to get a refund as the sound won't be the same as when sold which is quite important on earbuds.
