Apple today introduced new 5E135 firmware for the AirPods 2, the AirPods 3, the original AirPods Pro, the AirPods Pro 2, and the AirPods Max, up from the 5E133 firmware that was released in April.

Apple does not offer immediately available release notes on what's included in refreshed firmware updates for the AirPods‌, but the company does maintain a support document with release information.

There is no standard way to upgrade the ‌AirPods‌‌ software, but firmware is installed over-the-air while the ‌‌AirPods‌‌ are connected to an iOS device. Putting the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ in the case, connecting the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ to a power source, and then pairing the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ to an iPhone or an iPad should force the update after a short period of time.

You can check your ‌‌‌AirPods‌‌ or ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods Pro‌‌‌‌‌‌ firmware by following these steps:
  • Connect your ‌‌AirPods‌‌ or ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods Pro‌‌‌‌‌ to your iOS device.
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap About.
  • Tap ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌.
  • Look at the number next to "Firmware Version."
If we find notable changes after the firmware updates are installed, we'll update this article, but the software likely includes performance improvements and bug fixes.

I hope every firmware update they'll fix the call disconnect issue between AirPods Pro gen2 and iPhone XS. When I receive a phone call I have to rush to take my AirPods out and put them in the case before answering

With regards to connecting to power to update, is wireless power/charging included?

Update: Yes it is.

Heres hoping this brings back the great standby battery life I got with 4A400 on my AirPods Max. Prior to 4A400 and later firmware, I was/am losing around 10 percent whilst in the case, over a 18-24 hour period. With 4A400 I was only losing 0-2 percent.

I've said this since every firmware update since 4A400, so I'm not expecting this latest firmware to solve it.

I actually thought the last update boosted the ANC in my AirPods Max. Interested to see what this one brings, especially since it's coming so soon after the last one.

My APM have started doing a periodic "reset" when nothing is playing. ANC shuts off in one ear, then the other, and after a small delay it reconnects to my device with the chime and ANC re-engages. Super annoying. I've no idea if it is firmware or hardware causing the issue.

EDIT: My APMs have just now updated to 5E135. I'll keep you posted if the new firmware resolves this problem.

They were updated only a few weeks back, has there been some security thing
Probably sales threat, like not much upgrading potential. Gotta nerf that ANC a bit more in anticipation of the USB-C variant with "20% better ANC" in other words returning them to the original value for the USB-C version. After complaint why the UsB-C got them cause it uses "Apple patents" instead infringing on others.

What I did last time to get the firmware doesn't seem to be working for me this time. Would really be nice if there was an "update" button instead of trying things a handful of ways and hope it updates (which it isn't this time for me on either of my AirPods). :p

Yep, I had to leave them alone for about 10-15 mins and now they're both updated.

Bugs I am currently experiencing, before the update:
* it is impossible to turn off Find My Network: when I disable it, it automatically turns back on, in a few minutes;
*sound effects often play at 100% of volume even if I have set an adjusted tone volume in accessibility.
