What I did last time to get the firmware doesn't seem to be working for me this time. Would really be nice if there was an "update" button instead of trying things a handful of ways and hope it updates (which it isn't this time for me on either of my AirPods). :p
What seems to work for me is plugging the AirPods into my iMac or iPad directly via a lightning cable, connecting my AirPods to my phone (by putting one earpiece in my ear), then opening the case. Leave it for 10 minutes or so and see if the firmware has updated.

Has anyone noticed anything different?
ANC is a lot worse on my APP 2. There is a supermarket which I go to almost everyday after work and before mine got updated to the latest firmware, I could never hear the hum from the freezers. But today for the first time I used them after the update, I could hear slight hum from the freezers. Also I could hear people talking so much more than before. For example in the metro, I could hear people talking about 4~5 meters away from me which I never did before. I know this might only be my case though. But I’m sure it’s not placebo. I’ve had my APP 2 for quite a few months now and I use them almost everyday so the change was quite noticeable. I’m also a professional musician. I’d say I have got a pair well trained ears to hear those differences.

I followed the advice from ray or about taking my APM off “find my”. I was having similar problems especially the decline in standby but also loosing some 30 Percent per 2-3 hours of viewing both not what I was expecting. Well now with the find my disabled I watched for nearly 3 hours and was down only 3 percent for that time. I am now expecting that 10-15 percent in 24 hour drop will also go away it appears that the APM uses too much power when “find my” is enabled at least upon this limited experiment based on what raynor said.

Of course I also upgraded the firmware so maybe that helped as well but we shall see

I also found info on what happens when “Find My” is turned off here:

Overnight battery drain solution - turn off FindMy
I haven’t seen this posted before, so I thought I’d share:
As many others have reported, the AirPods Max loses some battery overnight before going to deep sleep, even while in the smart case. I’ve seen people report up to 12%. Personally, I see around 8-9%.
This is caused by the FindMy feature. I tried turning it off and now I see around 1% overnight drain! So if you don’t need the FindMy feature, try turning it off.
You find it under Settings-Bluetooth-AirPods Max (while it is connected)
Update: It’s also worth noting that even if you turn off the feature, you’ll still be able to track where you last used the headphones. As far as I can tell, turning it off just disables tracking while in the case (and not plugged in).
Update 2: Ok, so after some testing and reading the replies here, it seems that it is slightly inconsistent. From my own testing, the battery drain each night has been 0-1%, with the exception of the first time I tried it and once a couple of nights ago. So to recap:

  • Turn off FindMy at Settings-Bluetooth-AirPods Max (while it is connected)
  • Make sure the AirPods are in the smart case (this is important!)
  • If after a few nights it is still having "normal" battery drain, try a reboot or even a factory reset (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211904) Then turn off FindMy again if it is on again.”

Thanks for the suggestion.
I read something about disabling Find My for the APM and tried it. But the next time I use my APM they are back on Find My.

Not sure if its possible to permanently keep them off Find My ?

APP1 did the update.
Small glitch = seems like the ANC is deactivated when you start using them. You have to chose from the Noise control menu...and each subsequent time that I use them...

I need more testing but Dolby atmos with muse last album is still ultra muddy I don’t understand I have AirPods Pro 2 and when I deactivate spatial audio/atmos it sound so much better… weird because otherwise the sound is ok I will do more testing for anc and stuff

Edit: it seems anc is less efficient…

They really need to add an opt out or allow us to select to go back to an old one.

My Pro's have worked great for over 2 years. The last firmware update introduced a terrible crackling sound in one of them. I'm past Applecare+ to fix them. I found there is a known issue with some manufactured before a certain date (includes mine) and they will replace for free, but you had to have taken them into Apple with in 2 years of purchase which has passed for me.

They basically bricked my one Airpod Pro and I'm at their mercy to see if this firmware fixes it or a future one does. Great for their sales numbers, but terrible for the environment.
This is a hardware defect in the first generation AirPods Pro, not caused by firmware.

I stand corrected sometime during day they turned back on the Find My I hate the auto features of APM I would like to have manual turn offs for it and the power. With that now my APM have dropped almost 8 percent in 24 hours in sleep mode in cases. I am not happy with this kind of feature you would think for $549 I would get more control than I am given in these important areas. I am going to have to check when I use and before I put them to sleep that it is off if the software keeps turning this one.

I found that if you have connected with iPhone especially it shows in find my app as one of my devices and turns that feature back on. What a stupid arrangement. Especially since it takes 18 hours in the case before it’s truly turned off but if I open to look at charge it gets turned back on apparently for another 18 hours

Totally agree. A way to switch Find My off totally should be achievable by switching Find My off. Once it's off it should remain off, why the hell would a user want something turned back on, when they have chosen to switch it off. Also a way to power the APM off should be an option as well. I'm sure it could be incorporated with a firmware update. For example holding down the digital crown for 10 seconds would power the APM off, at least that way it would stop any power drain.

That would be great

was there even an update for the case?

According to this video the latest case update for the Pro 2 is 54.26.1. Mine is still on 54.26.0.

Yeah, I saw that. I guess it was just coincidence it started after the last firmware. I just updated to the latest one and still not fixed.

Neat, the AirPods Pro (second generation) with USB-C Charging Case and 50% better noise cancellation must be right around the corner! :)

I got this too although I used the apple service to change mine 1-2 years ago. It was fine for a long time but right now, I have the cracking on the left side again. I also realized when I put the APP1 in the ear, sometimes I can hear a squeaking noise on both sides like you know when someone puts his hearing aid in and it makes the funny noise (don't get me wrong, I m sure it was my APP and I don't have hearing aids).

My AirPods Pro 2 themselves updated to the latest version. However, my case is at 51.11.1, and it needs to be recharged every couple of days now. (I bought them in January, so they are only 4 months old.)

I’m not saying Apple did this deliberately. I guess it could be an ANC bug too. But if they did do it on purpose , they can go to hell then.

Believe it or not but my app2 unit has updated by itself without attaching them to a power source.

Just overnight.

The case version is this:

The anc luckily seems to be the same: tested with the noise app in the watch they cut 24db as before.

i’ve not tested yet the mic quality in audio call but honestly I don’t have any hope: even with the the new voice isolation feature they suck, the quality for the receiver is awful.
