Heres hoping this brings back the great standby battery life I got with 4A400 on my AirPods Max. Prior to 4A400 and later firmware, I was/am losing around 10 percent whilst in the case, over a 18-24 hour period. With 4A400 I was only losing 0-2 percent.

I've said this since every firmware update since 4A400, so I'm not expecting this latest firmware to solve it.
Try disabling ”Find My” for the APM

I actually have a pretty reliable way to update them, it works 90% of the time, at least for my Pro 1s;

open the case, put one AirPod in your ear, listen for about a minute or so, then they should update. I really wish Apple would make a "Check for update" button on your AirPods Bluetooth page.

Bless you! That worked perfectly! Thanks for sharing!

Looking forward to it. I've had bizarre battery life and disconnects since the last update. Poor right airpod will never be the same after the battery completely drained while in the case. :(

The little workarounds to get my AirPods Max and airpods pro 2 to update works ! I played a song and placed it back in to the case and plugged it in through my 20w Apple wall adapter and on the AirPods Pro 2 it chimed lme it was charging and boom it updated to 5e135 with my AirPods Max it went orange them green and checked both on my iPhone 14 pro Max and updated within under a min 🤓

If you have knock offs, the firmware will not update. I hope Apple does something to crack down on this knock off trend going on Tiktok. Mine updated to latest just now.

It would be great if Apple included more in the release notes about what was changed or fixed. I know most people don’t care or might not understand, but it’s incredibly annoying to just see the standard boilerplate text of “Bug fixes and other improvements.” What was fixed or improved? I hate that about App Store developers and here is Apple doing the same thing.

It would be nice if it stops the incessant clicking/in and out sound in my right airpod pro when ANC is on…
From what I understand, the ANC microphone comes loose and creates the sound. No software update will correct it. I’ve had three sets replaced due to the issue.

I've got my Duo (charging my AP2 and iPhone) connected to my MacBook, along with my APM. Nothing has been updated lol. Thanks for making this process easy, Apple

I followed the advice from ray or about taking my APM off “find my”. I was having similar problems especially the decline in standby but also loosing some 30 Percent per 2-3 hours of viewing both not what I was expecting. Well now with the find my disabled I watched for nearly 3 hours and was down only 3 percent for that time. I am now expecting that 10-15 percent in 24 hour drop will also go away it appears that the APM uses too much power when “find my” is enabled at least upon this limited experiment based on what raynor said.

Of course I also upgraded the firmware so maybe that helped as well but we shall see

I also found info on what happens when “Find My” is turned off here:

Overnight battery drain solution - turn off FindMy
I haven’t seen this posted before, so I thought I’d share:
As many others have reported, the AirPods Max loses some battery overnight before going to deep sleep, even while in the smart case. I’ve seen people report up to 12%. Personally, I see around 8-9%.
This is caused by the FindMy feature. I tried turning it off and now I see around 1% overnight drain! So if you don’t need the FindMy feature, try turning it off.
You find it under Settings-Bluetooth-AirPods Max (while it is connected)
Update: It’s also worth noting that even if you turn off the feature, you’ll still be able to track where you last used the headphones. As far as I can tell, turning it off just disables tracking while in the case (and not plugged in).
Update 2: Ok, so after some testing and reading the replies here, it seems that it is slightly inconsistent. From my own testing, the battery drain each night has been 0-1%, with the exception of the first time I tried it and once a couple of nights ago. So to recap:

  • Turn off FindMy at Settings-Bluetooth-AirPods Max (while it is connected)
  • Make sure the AirPods are in the smart case (this is important!)
  • If after a few nights it is still having "normal" battery drain, try a reboot or even a factory reset (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211904) Then turn off FindMy again if it is on again.”

With every update my APP 1 are behaving a bit less well.
My AP Max don’t seem to show any improvements or downgrade.
