Didn't see them either for a while (in the case with cap open). Now they've appeared again in about section and I'm on 3.7.2 now!
I guess firmware was updating

Last time in order for the update to take I plugged the Airpods case into the wall.. on my phone went to about.. opened the airpods case... waited 10 seconds.. closed the case.. exited the settings, waited 30 seconds and boom updated.

Haven't tried this update yet though.

The update is automatic. To update the Airpods, conduct the following:

  • Place the AirPods in its charging case.
  • The case must be plugged into a charger.
  • The case must be linked to an iPhone nearby and connected to Wi-Fi.

For me the update happened without the case being plugged into a charger

I tried watching a video this morning that someone had posted to our work Slack channel. I had my AirPods connected to my iPhone, and I had been happily been playing music without a problem. The moment I tried to play that video, the AirPods were disconnected, audio was output through the iPhone, and I couldn't reconnect the AirPods without restarting the iPhone (iPhone 6s Plus, iOS 10.3.2). They just wouldn't connect at all.

Not sure if my AirPods were updated to the new firmware before or after I tried watching the video. I'll try again tomorrow. In the meantime, could someone else try this?

  • Place the AirPods in its charging case. (This is not required, but suggested).
  • The case must be plugged into a charger.
  • The case must be linked to an iPhone nearby and connected to Wi-Fi.

To check if you have the latest installed firmware, follow these steps:

  • Open the Settings app on your phone.
  • In the Settings app, go to General > About > AirPods. (Note: AirPods will only display in About when connected to your iPhone).
  • From there, look for "Firmware Version" and check the number to see if you have the latest version (which is 3.5.1, as of 1 February 2017).
I will add to this that the case lid must be open (at least, when not connected to a charger).

Hopefully this fixes the 'bug' I have encountered where if the AirPods are connected to my iPhone playing music and then a phone call comes in then if I take the AirPods out to answer the call traditionally then the music plays via the internal speaker as well as hearing the voice call. Very frustrating.

If anybody out there had/has the problem that, as soon as the microphone kicks in for telephone calls or Siri, the Airpods produce terrible static sounds and buzzing (far more than normal Bluetooth hissing and/or its lower-quality telephone codec protocol) – I would be glad if you could let me know if the new firmware update fixes it. Would have loved to keep the Airpods, but this was a dealbreaker for me. Tried two pairs, both had the same problem.

Nothing I do gets them to show up in "About" on my iPhone.

This was something I dealt with the first time when updating back in February. Continue to go in and out of about, it should show up, and then it will update to the latest version from your previous version.

BeatsX also need an update. They need to bring a bit of ones voice into the ear when talking (perhaps in a variable settings way) so one can hear themselves a bit.

Find my BeatsX would be good as well.

All this is possible and necessary.
[doublepost=1495653456][/doublepost]If Apple pushes a firmware update that would keep them from sliding out of my ears, I would buy another pair of AirPods.

I loved mine but returned because they kept sliding out.

It's amazing how seamless this update is. Bose could learn a lesson or two from Apple! My Bose AE2 headphones don't update properly over Bluetooth; when the app is updating it always says that several HOURS are remaining for the update and it never completes. I always have to update those via USB.

Meanwhile my Airpods updated so instantly they were already on the new version before I checked.

I'm seeing improved graphics performance, also Safari feels snappier

(Just a little joke)
I had written this about 20 minutes ago, then decided against posting because I didn't know if the snappier joke was still going around.

Kudos

Bose doesn't have the benefit of controlling an entire operating system and running the update in the background.

Still, there's no reason the update should take *hours* once the app is running. It should be less than a minute and done.

EDIT: Not to mention this app spies on your music listening habits, so I deleted it some time ago.
