I agree with the others that this firmware update seemed to have refined the audio.

One more thing I notice after the firmware update is that it's more battery optimized. Before, I remember I'd have to place the earbuds back into the case to disconnect from my iPhone. Now, the earbuds automatically disconnect from the iPhone the moment I take both out of my ear, presumably a battery saving measure.

i feel that they refine audio. more treble.

Just updated and I'm not connected to a power source. It just disconnected and reconnected while I was listening and it was updated. This was on LTE.

I contacted Apple, and they confirmed that the update automatically installs when paired to an iOS or Mac.

Let me adjust my tinfoil hat before I continue...K.

No one can tell me what the update to the two microphones paired to a GPS in my pocket actually does. They can't say that it changes battery life, or audio quality, or if it fixes any rare bugs. They can't deny that it adds a wiretap. (I don't actually think it's a wiretap, but I also don't like the automatic firmware update since it could be used to isntall something I don't want.)

Why are we not lighting pitchforks right now?

What if it's *removing* a wiretap?

What if it's installing a sonar system that uses high frequency sounds to map your bedroom so the FBI know exactly where you're keeping your stash?

In order to see the AirPods subsection in the About area, you have to have the AirPods out of the case and connected to your iPhone. Once they are connected, the subsection will appear.

No, they don't. When I said, "Nothing I do gets them to show up", I meant nothing.

Here's to hoping the ear detection latency is gone; when I first got them on release, recognition seemed to be instant (chime sound, connection icon on menu bar on the iPhone). Recently though, there's a noticeable lag from time to time; I've tried re-pairing the Airpods which seems to help for a while then it starts to happen again.

Exactly. If Google pushed an update that couldn't be avoided, had no explination, and wasn't clearly announced people would be in arms. Half the posts on this forum would be laughing and making jokes at their users expense. When The Circle, sorry Apple, does it we are supposed to assume they are trying to protect our privacy.

He was making a joke fam.

Oooooh, someone saw a Tom Hanks movie recently that ignores the security aspects of iOS (of which this update relies on and is derivative of).

I'm seeing improved graphics performance, also Safari feels snappier

(Just a little joke)

Yeah, but they're draining the battery like crazy. I'm switching to Windows 10. Steve Jobs would never have allowed this.

How are early adopters getting on with their AirPods? Are they worth the money?

100% worth it.

Wires are ancient and ridiculous technology.

You know why? Because Google and Apple aren't the same companies. (Shocking, I know.)

Google is the U.S.'s largest ad agency. They've built their entire revenue stream on sharing their customers' personal info and details. They've been "busted" multiple times for violating agreements and secretly collecting information of MINORS on Chromebooks in schools.

Apple has built its entire reputation on user privacy. They have NOTHING to gain and EVERYTHING to lose by secretly tracking/sharing/selling private customer info.

Not sure if you're really that naive or if you're being purposefully argumentative, but you're misguided either way.

I've also noticed this. It's happened on three different phones. I've tried to get apple to replace them and they won't.

So is your trust.

From what I'm reading, that's working as intended. They're losing the connection to your phone and then re-establishing the connection when you come into range. This is how BT is designed to work.

I disagree with the assertion with "that's how its designed to work" - that may be a common implementation, but its not a fundamental design of bluetooth.

And either way, if that is the design, it is critically flawed.

I have purposely attached my headphones to my watch. I start playing music from my watch. My headphones see a weak signal from my phone, which isn't playing anything and hasn't done anything other than just sit there, and switch to my phone. That is ridiculous.

The car use case is different. You are talking about a device powering up from being powered off, which is a distinct action that I as the user have taken, where in the first minute or so the car will actively "look" for paired devices. Also, I am in close proximity to my car and have a good signal strength with it (because I am in it).

My airpods shouldn't switch devices unless the signal strength is incredible (i.e. they are right next to each other), one of the other devices is actively trying to send audio, and/or there is an active user effort to try to link with the airpods from that device.

Burden of proof lies with you. I hope you don't mind if I don't put on my tinfoil hat just yet while I wait.

Yes, let's just wait until someone else proves they did something or one of their secret updates breaks your device. Great strategy. You don't need a tinfoil hat to admit that they are under pressure from governments to do these very things against our wishes. All this update proves is that can make said changes and that people won't be alarmed by the lack of transparency. I don't care if this doubles battery life. Don't change my device without telling me first, and when you tell me explain what the change do. And say it clearly.

In other words, you have nothing to substantiate your conspiracy theories, and you'd rather not look at historical precedence to differentiate companies' motivations and actions? 10-4. Thanks for clarifying. o_O

Feel free to walk away at any time. Not sure where you'll go though.
