Maybe if we are lucky, they will update Powerbooks to have its 512 of ram in one slot like the iBook, because what a pain in the ass to upgrade.

Still, 4200 RPM hardrives too. Forget this, I love the iBook and all, but I'm going for the powerbook. If this was apples strategy I guessed it work. The iBook's specs aren't high enough now i have to spend an extra $300.

I'm selling mine... Are you looking for a 12"er with SD?

Crippled 9600 = 9550?

radeon 9550....no one called it

Common ...i said a crippled 9600 .... which is labeled 9550 ... that was close? :D

Ati site is totally silent on this ! 9550!

eek, that's a bit boring

Bit of a boring update then!

MacPredict predicted this to within a day too. Then again, that wasn't exactly going out on a limb with all the rumors around.

I am very disappointed with the upgrade. Why do apple always make it seem a big deal when they have barely changed anything, it's so frustrating that they know they have us over a barrell.

9 month wait. This is a terrible update.

What the hell did you expect? Apple is completely stuck with any computer using a G4 processor. It makes absolutely no sense for Apple to put a 1.67GHz G4 in the iBook because then the iBook is just a PowerBook in a different case basically. Intel processors can't come fast enough for Apple portables lineup.

There really isn't much more to add to the iBook right now. If you need for options, then a PowerBook is for you, not an iBook.

This is why I don't like rumor sites. People see all of these rumors and then make them stick in their head as if these will be the absolute final specs, and then when Apple releases something that doesn't match the rumors, its Apple's fault! Apple never said they would release a widescreen iBook, the rumor sites did, so don't blame Apple for that.

They could have at least increased the resolution for the 14" iBook, even if it was never going to be widescreen. I own the current (before today) 14" iBook, and the lame resolution is the only thing that really bothers me. 1024x768 is way too poor for 14" these days.

I agree. In fact, they need to boost resolutions across the entire laptop line. When I got my first powerbook 3 years ago, the screen was on par with, or slightly better than the PC market's screens. The screen on today's PB is exactly the same as my old one. On the other hand, I recently played around with a couple of my friends' PC laptops, and the screens are amazing. In 3 years, they've come a LONG way. Why shouldn't the 15" and 17" PB be HiDef? The LCD panels exist! Hell, HP is putting them into midrange laptops! Surely the "Pro" PowerBooks should get them.

I can't believe that you guys are expecting something ground breaking right now...

The way I see it, they are going to limp along with minor upgrades before restocking their line with Intel processors. These ho-hum upgrades should continue until January '06.

In other words, don't hold your breathe for something exciting.

Oh, and these updates are a big YAWN.

(And, FWIW, if they put a Celeron in the Mini, I'm going to be pissed!)

oh with the power line you get 24 mhz FSB + 80 Mhz proc more power!!

So there is now a superdrive mini (which you could already order before btw). And all models have 512mb ram, but I believe that was already added someway midterm as a minor change. So what's new?

Judging on the CPU speed of the new iBook of 1.42Ghz I deduce that the FSB is now 166mhz. Yes! (not being sinical, in case you are in doubt)

Surprisingly 1.33 = 133 FSB and 1.42 = 142 FSB !! i never knew apple could be this ridiculous!! give people a break! apple probably is the only company that puts in an exact piece of hardware in both the systems but cripple one to differentiate a product! boooo

Now what my new 12" (or 13" wide screen) will be
1.33 G4
512 RAM (256 on board) ok, so I was wrong here... but I was close
40 GB HD
BT and AE
Ripple capable GFX

Do I win a prize?
who wants to buy me my iBook?

It is Apple's fault that their laptops are inferior AND more expensive than the main PC brands out there. I just can't use anything except OS X, so I have to buy. If OS X could run on any machine, I sure as he!! wouldn't be buying a Mac!

It probably means that the specs that everyone was expecting in one go will be released bit-by-bit every 3 months to keep Apple hardware 'refreshed'.

faster processer (.1ghz) in october 2005

64mb graphics card January 2006

a bigger HD + 1 new feature April

Apple is going to milk this one & then june 2006 say 'Hey why not buy an intel ibook or mini, so much faster than those crappy G4 systems '

still a big difference is graphics cards (between the ibook and powerbook) - namely, the ibook doesn't offer dual screen support -- only mirroring..

this cripples it for me.

Yesterday I said that Bluetooth standard was doubtful, although I admitted it was a remote possibility. Today I am happy to admit that I was wrong! I would have appreciated a little more of a processor bump though (and widescreen would have been nice, but that was always a long shot).

I second that question??

Do powerbook updates usually follow closely behind Ibook updates??? I'm going to need one pretty soon.

This may be the last G4 iBook update. I think Apple waited this long so they could stagger the release of the intel laptops next summer. So I predict we won't see an iBook update for at least 12 months. If you are planning of buying an iBook, now is the only time to do so.
