Did they stop using Mobile Chips? None of the mobile chips have a 1066 FSB....

Nope. The may refresh Penryns have a 1066mhz bus.

"iMac has up to 2GB of 800MHz DDR2 memory standard so you can run more applications simultaneously."

800Mhz DDR2? this is something new, right?

Yes it is, mine is 667mhz. 800mhz so-dimms are still pretty new to the market.

Kinda cheesy they only offer the 8800GS video card on the 24 inch model. They should offer that card on the 20 incher as well.

Just another way to bait the carrot I guess.

apple just told me the chips were "intels latest" then said they are "core 2 duo"

this could mean anything...

also i was told to "check the intel website"

sorry, no luck

Weird Monday product update. Maybe they are saving the big news for Tuesday? Or just trying to cash in on the stimulus monies which should start showing up today.

I was hoping for a MacMini update too, but those iMacs are really nice.

is the 8800GS graphics option a notebook or desktp card? also is the 8800GS only available for 24" iMacs?
The 8800 GS is available on both desktop and mobile platforms. On the desktop it is an 8800GT with few shaders and a 192-bit memory interface.

The 8800 GS is just the 8700M GT. It was originally believed to be a different video card. Keep in mind the last mention of the 8800M GS predates the release of the 8700M GT.

something i only realised yesterday, the 24" is thicker than the 20"

made me feel a lot better about owning a 20"er

What about the Display Technology?

I heard previously the 20 inch display was worse than the 24 inch one. Have they updated the displays on the new iMacs? One their web page the 20 inch display specs (viewing angle etc.) are still inferior to the specs of the 24 inch iMac.

Spot On!!!

There was a guy...or gal who was touting this update a few weeks ago on another thread (the spring update thread i think).

There were some people deriding that person's info at the time.

Especially the 3Ghz processor and the odd monday update.

It was because of this person's info that I held out- in particular the monday update. It just seemed too odd to make up.

So I say a big thanks to that anonymous poster.

CHEERS!

See what a bummer. The iMac is perfectly powered for what I need but I don't have the desk space or desire to have a 20-24" screen next to my 30" ACD. So I guess it's still gonna be a MacPro for me.

Those BASTARDS!!!

All I wanted in this new iMac was a better GPU ;)

Sure they gave us one, but it's going to cost me an arm and a leg to get it!! :(

The worst part is that I'll buy it anyway!! :D

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

think I'll be going for that 3ghz beast...

Question here.. Why doesn't Apple match their memory chips FSB with the CPU's?

The CPU is 1066 but the memory is 800.. so it has a bottle neck there. I wonder if it's better to just grab the 2.8 refurb and upgrade the ram to 4 gigs.

Any one have an opinion on this?

This sucks I want a 20" model - 24" is too big for my room. Why can't the top end 20" have 512mb too.

Phew! I had just bought the $1799 2.4 GHz 24" on 4/15. Took a look at these specs, and there's not enough difference at $1800 for me to go and exchange I think. I bought at the Salem, NH store which is 1.5 hours away.

So I just called, and the girl told me they had just got the updated price list, and my model was dropped to $1599, so they will refund me $200. Pretty slick deal! I'd have been interested in the 8800 GS, but I didn't want to get the $2199 model.

Anyway, even with a 2600 Pro (or XT as Windows reports it), The Orange Box, Bioshock, and Oblivion all run smoothly at 1280x768 (1920x1200 is too high!) with high detail and 2x antialiasing, so I'm satisfied.

:)

Nice update... but, still no matte screen option. If that were available, I'd seriously consider one.
