Nice Update, the top end 24-inch is a very nice machine now.

I did think they were going to try and stick a Quad core in one of them though.

It looks like Apple dropped the price for upgrading Ram. You can go from 2 to 4GB for $200. Still more expensive than other places, but not the level of craziness we saw before. Also on the entry level 24" you can upgrade the video card for $150.

BTW, the Ram upgrade is only $180 for educators and the video card is $135.

I think this is a pretty nice update.

Sorry I asked this in another thread though I have the feeling that thread is about to be abandoned. Will old third party ram used for the old imacs work in this, I'm not sure wheather to buy the extra ram or not.

Good luck...

I'm betting on the Montevina platform.

That was my initial thought. I don't have enough familiarity with the product line to know for sure. But 1066MHz front-side was a feature of the Montevina chipset and the speeds match

Six new 45nm notebook CPUs accompanying the release will feature a 1066MHz Front Side Bus with clock speeds ranging from 2.26-3.06GHz. The recently released Penryn processors range from 2.1 to 2.8GHz and offer a 800MHz Front Side Bus. The Penryn processors have not yet been incorporated into Apple's notebook line, despite persistent rumors of an imminent release.

3.06 GHz, DDR2-800, and the 1066 MHz front side bus stand out for me. Those features scream Montevina.

We're still at 4 GB of RAM though. SODIMM density is still at 2 GB per slot for now at any reasonable price.

I wouldn't. It would run, but at the slower speed.

Oddly, Montevina isn't suppoed to be released for another month. Has someone ordered a new rig yet? If so when is the ship date?
